White Rabbits

Mooey89 · 01/02/2022 08:34

Help settle a very important debate with scientific data of an AIBU poll.

My colleague (hull) said that on the 1st month you say ‘white rabbit’ x 3 for good luck.
The rest of us (southern) had never heard it before.
So, have you heard it/do you say it, and if so, where in the country are you?

YANBU - Yes I say it, I’m northern
YABU - I say it and I’m southern

Thanks 😂

Northern and I say it. Although only once and has to be before you say anything else

DGRossetti · 01/02/2022 09:59

@OneTC

White rabbit, said once, after you've just pinched and punched someone, makes your immune from a pinch and punch back

It was traditional then to punch them and kick them in retaliation and say punch and kick for being such a dick

Shades of schooldays "jinxing" (or jinksing, or jincksing ...)
NerdyBird · 01/02/2022 10:17

You say white rabbits to stop people doing pinch punch. If you say it first they can't do it. But if you're the one doing the pinch punch, you say pinch punch, first of the month, white rabbits no returns. From the Westcountry.

mintich · 01/02/2022 10:25

Scottish and I say it once

Polkmn · 01/02/2022 10:34

Can't vote as none of your options for voting are relevant to me.

I am Southern but live in a Northern city. I have heard it throughout my life but don't do it.

theremustonlybeone · 01/02/2022 10:35

Never heard of it - i am scottish

Useranon1 · 01/02/2022 10:35

Northern and have never heard of this!

Chemenger · 01/02/2022 10:37

I’m Scottish, DH is from the north of England. He always says something nonsensical about punching and pinching and I always ignore him.

Time40 · 01/02/2022 10:41

My parents from NE taught me it's rabbits, rabbits, rabbits said first thing on a month with an R in it for good luck

Same here. If you say anything at all before saying rabbits, then the lucky charm won't work. I'd never heard of the pinching and punching before reading this thread.

Lovingtheglitter · 01/02/2022 10:43

East Midlands here and I've never heard of it! Husband is from the north so will wait to see if he has heard of it when he's home!

shivbo2014 · 01/02/2022 10:48

From London, yes always said white rabbits.

VestaTilley · 01/02/2022 10:50

I say it, I live down south. My DF is from Sussex and he’s always said it, so I do too. But only once, not three times.

TenThousandSpoons · 01/02/2022 10:51

Never heard it. Down south and we say
“A pinch and a punch for the first of the month.” This may be followed by the retort
“A punch and a kick for being so quick!” if the original pincher hasn’t said “no returns” in time.

SirSamuelVimes · 01/02/2022 11:00

Never said it, from South east.

Tried teaching DD "pinch, punch, first of the month" but she told me it was mean. "Why would you want to pinch and punch someone, Mummy?" Honestly, kids these days, no sense of fun. Maybe I'll teach her White Rabbits instead. I like random traditions.

dangerrabbit · 01/02/2022 11:05

Where is the option for never heard of it? I'm northern

Soubriquet · 01/02/2022 11:06

Never heard of this. We do pinch punch

Stillbloodyraining · 01/02/2022 11:07

In Cornwall we used to say pinch punch first of the month, no returns white rabbit. Never gave any thought as to why though!

ChrimboGateauxCatto · 01/02/2022 11:09

Yanbu but only once

sueelleker · 01/02/2022 11:11

Southerner, but my Mum was a Geordie; so I think I got it off her.

user1493494961 · 01/02/2022 11:22

White Rabbits (just once) in the Midlands, also 'pinch punch first of the month'.

BliainNua · 01/02/2022 11:27

I can't vote as I'm in Ireland and neither fit my criteria.
I heard it when I was a teenager, probably from Just17 or similar...
But I've never done it, becauseI always forgot (& now I'm too old to be bothered). Not sure that helps your scientific poll 😉

steff13 · 01/02/2022 11:47

Here it's "rabbit, rabbit, rabbit."

RoyKentsChestHair · 01/02/2022 11:53

@TomPinch

You say: a pinch and a punch for the first of the month (and you actually pinch and punch the other person.

Then you say: white rabbits, once.

That gives you immunity from the reply, which is: a slap and a kick for being too quick.

And then a kick in the Willy for being so silly Grin
TonyThreePies · 01/02/2022 11:53

YABU - I say it and I’m southern

Twizbe · 01/02/2022 11:57

My grandma used to say it (Irish living in the midlands)

I don't say it very often any more as do pinch punch etc, but I do know about it.
