Every time I take a break from work I check to see if he's resigned yet.
It's all horrifying and very interesting to watch. If only it wasn't a whole generation being utterly shafted by this government,

(Hello, OYBBK.
Lovely to see you.)

You’d think the in tray would be overflowing by now

CSWife · 04/02/2022 14:35

Indeed, much as I want him gone. I don't want there to be a VONC which he wins and if putting up with him for slightly longer means we get rid of the whole damn front bench then so be it.

thecatfromjapan · 04/02/2022 14:49

Chris Patten on World at One just now, telling it like it is:
" “I don’t suppose I’ll ever be anything other than a Conservative but I don’t think we’ve got a Conservative Party right now."

Agree with this as I think that if he wins a VONC - he then has a minimum of 12 months grace …. needs to be very sure what side of the line he would fall

He would have 12 months immunity. Wouldn't it be great if he had that immunity from a vote in March, then the local elections are a predictable car crash and we have an even more lame duck PM for months. What fun it would be watching him writh around trying to keep all the loon factions in his party happy.

Just who thought he'd ever be a world leader and not a figure of ridicule?

Well if only Sir Keir had got on with prosecuting him, then this issue would not have arisen.

Best case for labour:

VONC in March & he survives. May car crash as pp said, MET PCNs & awful Gray report but they're stuck with him until March '23. Then they a brutal leadership campaign and have barely a year to establish a new leader as a known quantity. In amongst poor economy, brexit fallout and crazy debt load.

It might still be feasible to overturn an 80 seat majority.

Oh it is feasible alright. I suppose the only question really is if Labour will have an outright majority or will need Lib Dem or SNP support.
the80sweregreat · 04/02/2022 21:53

I'm not sure if the SNP will want to get involved with it all, Nicola Sturgeon is only interested in a referendum and re joining the EU!

She will if that gets her a referendum!

i think the LD's will do well at the next GE, esp for areas that don't normally vote Lab - Cornwall for example.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 22:24

The Lib Dems will do well in affluent Shires, particularly if they continue the NIMBYism that won them Amersham and Chesham.

They won't get votes off the working class.

Peregrina · 04/02/2022 22:32

The loss of North Shropshire couldn't be put down to NIMBYism.

Neither could Chesham and Amersham entirely. Theresa May did sum it up very well, the wrong houses in the wrong places - expensive 'executive' detatched when family homes are required, with the basic infrastructure of schools, doctors surgeries, and bus services, which always get promised but don't materialise.

But the aim in places like that will be to pick up the moderate centrist Tories, who are never going to vote Labour themselves, but would be OK with a Labour Government with a very small majority led by Starmer.

Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 22:43

But still it remains a problem (certainly for the less privileged) that the Lib Dems seem to have little understanding or even concern for the working class.

Eg. the wrong type of house thing. Why then didn't they campaign (hard) for a much needed social housing development?

Oh for God’s sake. Let’s just get rid of the worst government of all time before we start moaning about a prospective replacement. Anyone would be better than this bunch of charlatans.
Tealightsandd · 04/02/2022 22:56

Famous last words...

If people genuinely want a better - fairer - society, we need to talk about how to achieve that. What is needed, what should be done - and, equally important, what shouldn't be done.
