I can't think of any P M who has been any good in the last three decades or more.
I despair of politics in the UK , it always ends in disaster and they make too many mistakes.
It really is shit how our governments and ministers let so many people down
I had high hopes for Tony Blair , yet he let so many down by going into an illegal war and yes PPI has been crippling for the NHS.
We've had nearly 12 years of the Conservatives now , austerity first which so many so hard then the pandemic and all those mess ups with money going to their chums. So much has gone wrong and the money wasted is eye watering
It is just so depressing that nobody seems competent anymore.
We all deserve better yet nobody seems to be able to just sort it out.
It's been such a depressing time for people and only going to get worse I suppose.

DuncinToffee · 03/02/2022 22:22

This going to be the defence party line

^Earlier this week the PM promised the Parliamentary Party swift and decisive change at No.10 to get us back on course and focused on people's priorities - pleased to see true to his word he's delivering.
Lots of work to do, time to crack on with the day job.^

the80sweregreat · 03/02/2022 22:24

Steve ' adrenaline rush ' Baker
He likes fast motorbikes , is an ERG nutter , a covid denier and just utterly horrible.

Lottapianos · 03/02/2022 22:24

'I'm a bit worried that you seen to have written exactly what I am thinking. Are you me?'

Great minds Grin

CSWife · 03/02/2022 22:26

@DuncinToffee

Furlough and eat out to help out, was Sunak's call to glory. This is now billions lost to fraud and the looming energy crisis.

Yes, good assessment.

derxa · 03/02/2022 22:39

In amongst all the glee about the downfall of BJ we are a country in crises. We need to come together at this point. I don't get it

Don't worry, Boris seems to have done a pretty good job of uniting everyone in laughing at him.
madIam · 03/02/2022 22:43

I am completely aghast that with the country in the state it is and the utter shit show of a government 'led' (I use the word lightly) by someone with no morals whatsoever that this thread has been derailed by people going on about how awful Tony Blair is. Our country is being destroyed by the cunts in power now and I don't care what Tony Blair did wrong, there was a sense of hope when he was in charge and there is none now. No he isn't to blame for every shit thing that's ever happened ffs. I'm waiting for Tealight to pop up and say it's his fault BJ is how he is as he met him as a child and bullied him and this is the result or something, ffs. I don't open a thread called 'Boris Downfall' to read two pages of 'But Blair/Iraq blah blah...' Angry.

Did you miss the pages of but Jeremy Corbyn?

Oh, you do know that Starmer doesn't know what a woman is?

AdamRyan · 03/02/2022 22:50

Yes exactly madlam
I hated Blair at the time amd swore I'd never vote Labour because of him but in hindsight it was the best time to be British/living in the UK and I'd trade him for the entire current cabinet in a heartbeat.
For example, I live near Bristol, rarely saw homeless people in the late 1990s/early 2000s, now if I visit Bristol there are lots.
I was on a relatively low income with children, but it was OK because of tax credits so I felt like things were affordable.
I shudder to think what my circumstances would have been if I'd been 25 today

The defence of Big Baby definitely is.
DuncinToffee · 03/02/2022 22:52

So how do we come together then?

Glee?

You think its all glee?

I can't speak for anyone else, but the sight of Boris Johnson being unable to square the circle of satisfying the Red Wall and the Hard Traditional Right isnt gleeful. It was inevitable. As was Johnson eventually putting his foot in his god and doing anything but put himself first and think he above the rules.

This is a man who is twice divorced and has (at least) one child by a mistress. Telling the truth and putting others first out of a sense of duty, isn't exactly in his temperament.

What sad about it is lots of people put their hopes and dreams on the shoulders of Johnson. There is nothing gleeful in seeing those broken and seeing the bleakness of the situation we face post covid, post brexit slowly revealing itself.

The feeling is horror at that and fear at what comes next.

thecatfromjapan · 03/02/2022 23:01

Oh. I can't bring myself to get grumpy with people on here.
We're in for such a shitshow over the next couple of years ... it's a bit pointless being irate with other posters.

(I'm sure I'll overcome that soon ... 😁)

I'm sorry if it's not everyone's cup of tea but, yes, tonight I really do want to just take a moment to enjoy the sheer, bloody insanity of Boris' Implosion.

And to hope it's absolutely appalling and takes down as many of the other bastards responsible for this mess as possible.

Shocking that he's still clinging on. What on earth is it going to take?Confused

Blair 's follies spawed Johnson greatest lie. The bus and the need for the bus. Without the bus, he could not have had the microwave. Johnson plaugerised Burnhams manifesto for the north because there's been no long term structural planning since the M6 was built. Those motorway bridges of the 60s? The Genoa bridge collapse should scare you.

The after dinner circuit and multiple honourary (lucrative) jobs beckon.
JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 03/02/2022 23:06

Does Munira ‘war on woke’ Mirza really think people will believe she quit over Saville remarks?! Please! they’re all leaving because the cost of living crisis shit is about to hit the fan. They want distance between their failing policies and the fallout so need convenient get outs.

Oh and I’d take 100 Blair’s over this incompetent shower including Rishi ‘lost £9bn to fraud and will loan you the price of my coffee cup’ Sunak any day of the week.

JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil · 03/02/2022 23:09

The British public are about to find out that politicians focusing on wrapping themselves in flags, screaming about statues and changing passport colours does not equal good governance, won’t fix hospitals, schools and won’t help you pay your ever increasing heating bills.

thecatfromjapan · 03/02/2022 23:13

Sorry, RedTtothBrush , normally I agree with you but ... no.

I'm done with letting this government get away with murder by blaming everything on Blair.

It's been the biggest get-out clause ever.

And the lack of investment in the regions? We could make a case for blaming it on Thatcher. Or even a failure of imagination in successive post-war governments, living on in a dream of Britain's great manufacturing past and failing to react to the post-war world.

Ultimately, what government's do is their responsibility.

The Conservatives have been in power a looong time now.

Let them own it.

thecatfromjapan · 03/02/2022 23:16

I don't think Mirza is war on woke. She snd her partner are very good at negotiating and fomenting culture war stuff.

We do live in a very peculiar time, politically.

CSWife · 03/02/2022 23:29

I'd agree it's more of a tragedy than a comedy. But, these threads were born from a dislike of the present incumbent and therefore IMHO it's OK to enjoy the slow decline.

(Obvs pp can start studiously serious threads on the matter elsewhere if they so choose)

TheAbbotOfUnreason · 03/02/2022 23:33

Why do you think that bridge inspections aren’t undertaken in the UK?
