What does he think the police are going to say that could POSSIBLY get him off the hook??!!

I keep expecting to feel less angry at some point, that somehow the passage of time will start to extinguish it

But watching that absolute cunt lie and manipulate and refute just makes me want to explode in a bundle of pure rage

Resigning isn’t good enough - he needs to be banged up

ProudAlly · 31/01/2022 16:59

He's just delaying, hoping that something else will blow up in the meantime and distract everyone. He's appalling. Horrible man. He needs to have a backbone and resign, it's the only decent thing he can do. Probably the only decent thing he would ever do

'so he’s hiding behind his mates at the Met'

Well no, I thought everyone knew you couldn't comment on the subject of a current police investigation?!

Sub-judice only applies to current or imminent court cases. I thought everyone knew that.

Is Johnson about to face a criminal trial? I do hope so.

Notonthestairs · 31/01/2022 17:01

Strange that he won't commit to publishing the full report after the police investigation- he'll already have legal advice regarding this point (so he would be able to say now if he absolutely can't) and he successfully blocked the publication of the Russia report for 18 months so he has means at his disposal to delay.

He's leaving his own MP's without cover really - they can't go back to their constituencies and say wait for the report.

I missed the reference to Savile but caught the drug taking deflection. All a bit desperate.

ItsSnowJokes · 31/01/2022 17:02

His lies flow like water. And to now say he won't publish the report in full when the met police are done is an affront to all constituents across the country.

He has to go, but the tories do not have the guts to do it. Its disgusting and we are being led by an absolute wanker.

ClaudineClare · 31/01/2022 17:02

I liked Joanna Cherry's question, which was basically "would you lie under oath, Prime Minister?"

Would he?🤥🤥🤥

AdamRyan · 31/01/2022 17:02

Is Johnson about to face a criminal trial? I do hope so.
As far as I'm concerned that's the only possible good outcome now.
Hes damaged our democracy so much and we can't do anything about it.
I guess May putting the boot in was a good sign. Maybe he will get a VONC but even so, the damage is done

Iggly · 31/01/2022 17:05

@Rinoachicken

Ooo just seen that the Met have announced they have been 300 photos relating to the Downing St gatherings.

PLEASE let them be leaked

YES
derxa · 31/01/2022 17:05

@Peregrina

Are we listening to a Prime Minister or a stuck record?

He is going to go galivanting to the 'Ukraine region' tomorrow and was bragging about leading the Western response to the crisis there. Can anyone imagine what the response of Putin would be when watching Johnson's performance today?

I should imagine Putin would be mystified as to why 'parties' are being investigated at all

We are all hostages to this malevolent toad's ambitions
the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 17:06

The photos won't be leaked now
I think that ship has sailed.

Iggly · 31/01/2022 17:06

Boris has to go, he really does.

Those around him are clearly too scared/stubborn to say so. They’re stuck in a blind, bizarre reality where they just don’t get it.

The Tories are embarrassing themselves. They must have dodgy as fuck connections with the real world tbh.

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2022 17:10

Thanks Rinoachicken

Johnson said "Nothing would give me greater pleasure than to publish everything we have but there are legal impediments"

David Allen Green's reply
I cannot emphasise enough how much this is false
The final report will be 'legalled' by the government's chief lawyer and an external QC
There will be absolutely no legal reason to refuse publication

Berengaria1 · 31/01/2022 17:11

He has reduced our Parliament and our country to a laughing stock. I cannot believe anyone would support a blatant liar leading our country, yet it's clear many still do. It's not the parties (bad enough), it's the lying and failure to apologise.

Rinoachicken · 31/01/2022 17:13

That’s interesting @DuncinToffee, sorry who is David Green?

UnconditionalSurrender · 31/01/2022 17:15

I think he has just thrown petrol on the fire this afternoon.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 31/01/2022 17:16

@the80sweregreat

The photos won't be leaked now I think that ship has sailed.
Why, @the80sweregreat? Imagine if they were handed over by someone malevolent who had kept a copy ot two?
Notonthestairs · 31/01/2022 17:17

David Allen Green is a solicitor (barrister maybe?) He writes about constitutional law for the FT.

Florianus · 31/01/2022 17:18

@CryingAtTheDiscotheque

That might have been true if the police's investigation wasn't limited to fixed penalty notice offences.

sub judice refers to matters that are under consideration by the courts so it doesn't apply to anything currently under investigation as part of Partygate.
DuncinToffee · 31/01/2022 17:18

@Rinoachicken

That’s interesting *@DuncinToffee*, sorry who is David Green?
He is a lawyer and commentator on law and policy

Tweet tag @davidallengreen

Someone I found through the many MN threads on brexit and other politics

the80sweregreat · 31/01/2022 17:18

I just think that if the photos have been handed over , then wouldn't it be breaking the law to have them leaked ?
(I've no idea about the law and its many mysteries though to be fair )

DuncinToffee · 31/01/2022 17:20

Apparently the Speaker has run out of Tory beckbenchers to call to speak.

Rinoachicken · 31/01/2022 17:23

Listening to Nadine Dorris on BBC News right now 🤮

Nothing more infuriating and insulting than MPs PRESUMING to tell the public what they should be interested in, what they should care about.

Talk about out of touch.

They may be right to a point - we ARE sick of all this - but there’s a simple remedy to all that — GET RID OF HIM!

Florianus · 31/01/2022 17:25

Thanks for the new thread, Rhino.

One thing puzzled me about the part of the SG report released today. It says, in the appendix, that one of her appointed tasks was to report on attendance at the various events, but she has not done so - even in the case of the four events that the Met are not investigating. Perhaps the police insisted that no names were mentioned, whatever the event.

Incidentally, anyone wanting to see what SG finally submitted can find the document at www.gov.uk - enter "Sue Gray" in the search box, and it is the first thing to come up (a rather slim PDF of 6 pages, excluding the introductory material and annexes).
