AIBU To be fed up of smaller portions for women

Fed up of constantly being given the smaller fish, steak, piece of cake in resturants than my husband, I'm taller than him! I'm not on a sodding diet and nor do I need to be on one. Today I was even given a smaller fish than my 13 year old son! Its bad enough that gluten free fish at chippys tend to be smaller anyway for whatever reason, so this ended up being miniscule than everyone elses as my 13 year old son is also a coeliac.

Odd, because restaurants try to make standardised portions.

AlDanvers · 29/01/2022 19:23

Can't say this has ever happened to me.

And as a waitress it never entered my head to give the man the bigger meal if people had ordered the same.

This sounds really shit.

ditalini · 29/01/2022 19:23

Don't know where you're eating but I've never worked in the kitchen where we were told the sex of the people ordering.

My mum though, it's taken me 30 years to train her out of penis portions.

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 29/01/2022 19:23

I have never ever noticed this tbh, most restaurants offer a standard size and the chefs wouldn't know who they were cooking for.

OfstedOffred · 29/01/2022 19:24

I've never had this happen to me.

If I get given a slightly larger portion though i do pass it to DH and swap because if I eat as much as him I just pile on weight.

ClaymationHeartsStillBeat · 29/01/2022 19:25

YANBU if this is the case, but I have never experienced it. I have 5 kids and have spent a fair amount of time anorexic so in restaurants I would look like someone wanting a portion fit for a bird. Never received a smaller portion than my partner or my multiple kids.
Where the F are you eating that they do this.
Most restaurants do costings based on portion sizes. Strange.

BlackboardMonitorVimes · 29/01/2022 19:25

I've sent food back before as the portion size of the main element was so much smaller than others.

YukoandHiro · 29/01/2022 19:25

My DH doesn't drink often, I usually have a glass of wine if we go out for dinner. Every single f-ing time when the drinks waiter arrives he gets given the wine and I get given the apple juice

AllThatFancyPaintsAsFair · 29/01/2022 19:26

If this is happening to you constantly you must be going to some weird paes does the wait person mark how each person identifies on the order slip?

Incywinceyspider · 29/01/2022 19:28

I've never had this happen. They do pass DP the bill though!

BliainNua · 29/01/2022 19:28

I thought you were going to say this was happening at your in-laws , not at (what sounds like) numerous restaurants - never had this happen to me. Like pp said I thought they'd all be standard sizes.
My DM would definitely give bigger portions to the men, that comes from growing up in a time when men worked physical jobs and ate more than women.

Snoozer11 · 29/01/2022 19:31

Get over yourself. Seriously. Do it right now.

Kitchen staff do not know your sex, and food item is standardised by weight.

When I worked in a restaurant one of the most unpleasant experiences I ever had was with a man who thought his fish wasn't big enough.

girlmom21 · 29/01/2022 19:31

At a chippy? Where they just give you all the portions and you share them out yourself?

justyoy · 29/01/2022 19:32

It has never once happened to me. I tend to find, rather, that portions are too big and wish I could order (and pay for) a half portion. When I was in hospital last year, I had the choice of 'small' or 'large' portions of each meal, which I thought was very sensible.

Lots of places will let you order a smaller portion if it's on the kids menu and you ask nicely

Good tip, @girlmom21

MooSakah · 29/01/2022 19:43

Never had this problem. Where are you eating? Most places have standard portion sizes for their meals and make all the dishes look the same.

JurgensCakeBabyJesus · 29/01/2022 19:43

I quite like a beer in the summer and DH likes a G&T, most of the time he is given the beer if it's table service

Krakenchorus · 29/01/2022 19:44

I have never, ever have this happen. I find it hard to believe that the OP has had this happen so often that she's fed up with it. Where are you eating, Op??

username1293948 · 29/01/2022 19:46

Why are you inspecting everyone’s plate in comparison to yours 😂

rwalker · 29/01/2022 19:47

Worked in catering for years and every the only difference was between kids and adults portions .

TyrannosaurusRegina · 29/01/2022 19:49

I can only echo what everyone else has said, this hasn't happened to me before.

Chemenger · 29/01/2022 19:49

This has never happened to me. It would be so complicated for restaurants to actually achieve this that I find it hard to imagine it ever being done. As for the chippy - how do they even know who is going to be eating each meal, surely one person goes in and orders everything?

Sexnotgender · 29/01/2022 19:50

I worked in hospitality for years and the portions are standard.

There isn’t a special vagina button that tells the chef to make a small portion.
