People who go on local Facebook groups and post this sort of thing

OrangeIsTheNewRed · 29/01/2022 17:52

Does anyone else eyeroll at people who go on local social media groups and post things like:

'Anyone else spot the 11 police cars, ambulance and helicopter flying along x road just now? I hope it's nothing serious?!?!'

And

'I found a bank card outside the bank on the high street 4 days ago and I am keeping it safe. If you have lost one pm me and I will ask you questions to check if it's yours.'

And

'I'm sure that the parents of the teenagers in the chip shop will be really proud of the language their little darlings were using just now!'

Etc.

I know I could just leave the groups but they are useful for things like plasterer recommendations and checking when the tip is open and who is the best tree pruner in the area, etc.

It's not just be who finds this annoying, is it?

OP do you live in a popular seaside town?

Caramelvanillafudge · 29/01/2022 17:55

Not too sure what’s wrong with the bank card one … am I missing something?

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/01/2022 17:56

I still have mine in my Facebook even though I moved away years ago because it’s very amusing.

‘Anyone know what time Lloyds the chemist opens?’

‘So crowded in the town just now when I went to do my shopping on a Saturday morning there’s a bloody pandemic on!’

‘Anyone lost this cat? It was sunbathing in my garden’

WorriedGiraffe · 29/01/2022 17:56

What’s wrong with returning someone’s bank card to them?

OmgIThinkILikeYou · 29/01/2022 17:56

This is why I'm in my local fb page, I love the busy body questions Grin

OrangeIsTheNewRed · 29/01/2022 17:57

No - large inland city!

One in the NE which everyone on MN is always telling people to move to?
SheWoreYellow · 29/01/2022 17:58

Don’t see anything wrong with the first two. I don’t really care about bad language, but if it was anything more serious I think that would be fair enough too.

OrangeIsTheNewRed · 29/01/2022 17:58

The bank card one irked me because they'd had it FOUR DAYS! Also, from reading the comments, the bank was open when they found it and it was a card issued by that very bank, so why on earth they didn't hand it into the bank is a mystery.

Isn’t this exactly what local FB groups are for?

I live in a small not popular village, and these posts could have been copied and pasted from the local Facebook group. All of these groups are exactly the same.

I mean, when I lose my bank card the first thing I think is “oh I’ll just wait 4 days to see if anyone finds it and posts it in the Facebook group”. Hmm.

WeeFae · 29/01/2022 18:04

My local FB page (a medium-sized very inland market town) has these posts constantly too!

As well as the "to the driver of the white Mondeo who cut me up at approx 2.36pm today, I have you on my dashcam!"

RedCandyApple · 29/01/2022 18:09

There’s a cat on my wall/ in my garden, just checking on here if it’s anyone’s before I take it to the vet to scan it for a chip 🙄

LetsGoParty · 29/01/2022 18:10

You don't need to leave the group but you could easily mute it or manage your notifications🤷🏻‍♀️
I block people who are boring, such as Avon reps or boring ranty people.

Abra1d1 · 29/01/2022 18:12

Nextdoor is worse!

OrangeIsTheNewRed · 29/01/2022 18:12

Yes! The cat ones! 'This cat has been visiting my garden every day now for weeks...' 'Better paper collar it and take it for a chip check hun.'

Why?

No one has mentioned dog poo yet.
Always a popular topic.
This week on my local group there was yet another rant about irresponsible dog owners, accompanied by a photo of horse poo.

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/01/2022 18:18

@Abra1d1

Nextdoor is worse!
I’m addicted to Nextdoor.

There was a post last week about whether we feel safe in the local area with rising crime rates.

One lady said ‘I won’t even take my handbag outside my front door these days, let alone to M&S’

😆

Hand it into the bank 🤔
RedCandyApple · 29/01/2022 18:20

The cat ones drive me mad, cats are free to roam, it’s constantly, “Is this anyone’s cat?” I mean unless it looks injured or stray just leave it alone, all of the pictures are of cats that look very well taken care of.

Imtryingveryhard · 29/01/2022 18:20

Mine consist of slating local
Independent stores for following Covid rules that people don’t like, telling me if I test positive for Covid but I have no symptoms I can’t spread it, there isn’t a local Outbreak despite half my children school isolating and an emergency PCR unit being drafted in to identify the no symptom positives for exactly the same reason. The bank card one annoys me - it doesn’t belong to the person who found it but they are holding it to ransom until YOU prove it’s YOURS, despite them not having any ownership to it. This is precisely the reason I have left lots of groups. I am sure I will think of more annoying posts very soon.

Abra1d1 · 29/01/2022 18:21

@WheelieBinPrincess Gold! 😆

RedCandyApple · 29/01/2022 18:21

I don’t like seeing the bank card one either I mean just call the number and get it cancelled... those pictures never have anyone claiming it on my local posts as the person has most likely already realised it’s missing already and cancelled it

UnsuitableHat · 29/01/2022 18:23

Sounds very similar to our local groups, which are also full of complaints about road restrictions/closures and how privileged cyclists are these days compared to motorists

BotterMon · 29/01/2022 18:28

In a small rural village and left the group as full of people asking inane questions most of which could be answered by Google.

There's also a fox who steals resident's shoes on a daily basis according to the page - who the fuck leaves all their shoes outside?

Nutters the lot of them.
