People who go on local Facebook groups and post this sort of thing

OrangeIsTheNewRed · 29/01/2022 17:52

Does anyone else eyeroll at people who go on local social media groups and post things like:

'Anyone else spot the 11 police cars, ambulance and helicopter flying along x road just now? I hope it's nothing serious?!?!'

And

'I found a bank card outside the bank on the high street 4 days ago and I am keeping it safe. If you have lost one pm me and I will ask you questions to check if it's yours.'

And

'I'm sure that the parents of the teenagers in the chip shop will be really proud of the language their little darlings were using just now!'

Etc.

I know I could just leave the groups but they are useful for things like plasterer recommendations and checking when the tip is open and who is the best tree pruner in the area, etc.

It's not just be who finds this annoying, is it?

I rescued a cat with 3 legs, she was otherwise perfectly healthy. The amount of times her photo appeared on FB with '😭 this poor cat has turned up outside my house, should I call the RSPCA?' NO, you shouldn't because kitty is a fucking con artist looking for a freebie meal and cuddles and everybody gets taken in by her 🙄 Honestly, the amount of times I had to claim my cat just going about her fucking business was unreal.

inheritancetrack · 29/01/2022 18:30

Well leave it or don't read them. Just post if you need a plasterer etc. I am always interested in the local gossip

Pumperthepumper · 29/01/2022 18:31

The cat ones are the absolute worst ‘I’ve found this poor starving neglected cat in my garden, poor thing absolutely wolfed down the three tins of tuna I gave it. Any idea who its feckless owners are?’ and a picture of a perfectly normal cat looking pleased with itself.

Totally! My old cat would get featured in these ALL the time. ‘Skinny cat, looking worse for wear (he was 17!!) collar on but maybe stray. Hangs out in my garden most days. Will take to vets tomorrow to scan for microchip’ fuck off!!

I never post on mine but ours, particularly during lockdown, was excellent entertainment.

As we reopened the first time, with a five mile radius, there was a call to action where people were genuinely egging each other on to line the entrances of our car parks, 2m apart, to stop people coming GrinGrin

brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr · 29/01/2022 18:34

I‘m concerned at the poor literacy of so many in our village. Sorry but dyslexia isn’t this common, it’s 100% simpletons.

WheelieBinPrincess · 29/01/2022 18:34

People actually slagged off lone people walking along the empty beach with a takeaway coffee or a thermos flask during the first lockdown.

‘Selfish buggers, we need to do our bit and stay at home!! I’d love a walk on the beach but I’m thinking of others!!’

bakebeans · 29/01/2022 18:35

The card one is ridiculous. Not everyone is on Facebook. Easier to cancel with the bank on the number on the back of the card

Dyslexia or simpleton? You think those are the only two reasons that people have trouble with spelling?
Izzabellasasperella · 29/01/2022 18:39

My dd dropped her bank card at night. Some kind person posted it on fb and she got it back. You can freeze cards now so she didn't have to cancel and wait for a new one.

This is a poor use of a comma and your syntax is terrible.
Doubleraspberry · 29/01/2022 18:42

Not that it ended up on FB (to my knowledge) but I only found out at the last minute that some people down the round were about to rehome my cat to some friends! They had taken him to the vet to scan for a microchip which showed our old address (5 mins away) and had our current number on it, which no one rang, and decided that he was in need of a home. They were feeding him roast chicken by hand every day so no wonder he kept turning up. Then someone reported them to the RSPCA for neglecting him as the bed they’d set up for him was on their doorstep.

All sheer madness. He was happy, healthy and spent his nights stealing my cashmere blanket.

Horst · 29/01/2022 18:45

I tend to post “found bank card in x place handed it at shop next to where found” “found iPhone in X place handed into Y security”

Never bother to take something home and post it up. I do hate the whole which bin is it. Google it ffs. Is wilko open today, Google it ffs.

XenoBitch · 29/01/2022 18:46

I am blocked from my local FB group (and just as well, as the admin/mods were on massive power trips).. but yep, it was always full of "why is there a cop car in xyz road?" and the like. Also, the obligatory "lost" cat posts, and asking when the local Asda was open/closed.

Horst · 29/01/2022 18:47

Oh and one of my cats is always on the fucking groups. “Anyone know if this cat has an owner was starving kinda lumpy collar is dirty” was one. With picture of them feeding my cat on the doorstep I can see from my livingroom window!!! Yes collar is dirty is due to be replaced fuck off.

Again oh this cat keeps following me or seen sitting on cars. Yeah she’s a twat she will dare you to run her over too she’s just a dick.

Antiqueanniesmagiclanternshow · 29/01/2022 18:48

Our one is all cars, dog poo, fireworks and " little scrotes, you can't have anything nice" ad infinitum

RozHuntleysStump · 29/01/2022 18:48

Irony is not dead…

Anyway. My Nextdoor thing seems to be constant posts about “ Hi I’m Sue and I’ve lived in Acacia Road for 500 years. I trim toenails if anyone needs theirs doing. Lol!” Or “ hi I’m geoff’. Do some people think it’s some sort of meeting/chat/dating site?

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 29/01/2022 18:51

I did the helicopter one one night when I was flying so low and it was very noisy Grin

Mayvis · 29/01/2022 18:51

At least it isn’t firework season!

We get people moaning about fireworks, people posting advance warning of fireworks then people posting to say how much they loved watching the fireworks at wherever.

Oh and an almost daily discussion on the best Indian or Chinese takeaway in the town.

DdraigGoch · 29/01/2022 18:52

@WorriedGiraffe

What’s wrong with returning someone’s bank card to them?
If I've lost my bank card, the last thing I'd do is start sending personal information to a stranger over the Internet. They should hand it in to a bank or police station. They certainly shouldn't be hanging onto it for days, at work if a card is found and not claimed it gets destroyed within 24hrs.
Thebig3 · 29/01/2022 18:53

@OrangeIsTheNewRed

Yes! The cat ones! 'This cat has been visiting my garden every day now for weeks...' 'Better paper collar it and take it for a chip check hun.'

Why?

These always make me laugh. Especially when they say "I've fed it and it keeps coming back so I dont think it has a home"

Thats cos cats aren't stupid and will go back if they know they get food!!!!!

Pasdelacasa · 29/01/2022 18:55

Not on FB, but dip into Nextdoor occasionally. London suburb. Dog poo and ‘lost’ cats seem to be a nationwide thing it would seem! We also have a lot of ‘doorbell cam’ posts (‘This individual rang my bell at 9pm last night when I was out. No idea who he is. Any ideas?’) and endless Cycle Lane Whinging.

bigbluebus · 29/01/2022 18:55

Worse than the bank card ones are the driving licence ones - it's got the address and photo of the owner on FGS if you really want to reunite them just go and knock on their door.

Irridescantshimmmer · 29/01/2022 18:56

Regarding the bank card, if they hand it in to a local branch the bank will contact the person. Otherwise, its crazy because the person who found the bank card could be implicated and charged.

Its the last thing they would expect to happen because their intentions are honorable but missguided. Its just not worth the risk.

nordica · 29/01/2022 18:57

Mine is mostly people asking for recommendations for a plumber/painter/nail bar, as cheap as possible. "Need man and van for tomoz plz no more than £10"

And people who've just joined and post "thanks for the add" 😏
