People who go on local Facebook groups and post this sort of thing

OrangeIsTheNewRed · 29/01/2022 17:52

Does anyone else eyeroll at people who go on local social media groups and post things like:

'Anyone else spot the 11 police cars, ambulance and helicopter flying along x road just now? I hope it's nothing serious?!?!'

And

'I found a bank card outside the bank on the high street 4 days ago and I am keeping it safe. If you have lost one pm me and I will ask you questions to check if it's yours.'

And

'I'm sure that the parents of the teenagers in the chip shop will be really proud of the language their little darlings were using just now!'

Etc.

I know I could just leave the groups but they are useful for things like plasterer recommendations and checking when the tip is open and who is the best tree pruner in the area, etc.

It's not just be who finds this annoying, is it?

Oh one more:
The ones who post does anyone have the number for local business or know opening times.
It is literally quicker to google search it than post and wait for an answer.

DontKeepTheFaith · 29/01/2022 21:46

I love our local FB group, it’s full of very odd people.

Definitely lots of lost bank cards, random cats and local vandals who are named and shamed, without actually being named🤷‍♀️

We also have a separate group just for the almost universally despised new housing development which is much like MN, people attacking each other for daring to have different views🤣🤣

OrangeVelour · 29/01/2022 21:46

@MrsTophamHat

I've just joined nextdoor off the back of this thread and the first post I read was about dog poo Grin
What is Nextdoor? It sounds like something I'd enjoy Grin
SmellyWellyWoo · 29/01/2022 21:49

My teenage son has had his lost bank card returned twice via this method so I can't slate them! 🤣

Bracketcomma · 29/01/2022 21:49

@BotterMon

In a small rural village and left the group as full of people asking inane questions most of which could be answered by Google.

There's also a fox who steals resident's shoes on a daily basis according to the page - who the fuck leaves all their shoes outside?

Nutters the lot of them.

We leave our shoes outside.
Bracketcomma · 29/01/2022 21:50

The bank card posts are useful too.

ARicher22 · 29/01/2022 21:50

I usually scroll past and ignore, or have a chuckle at some of the really ridiculous posts but one a couple of days ago really took the piss, along the lines of:
'Just heard someone committed suicide by jumping from the (extremely high) viaduct. Hope they're OK (lots of sad face, hearts and prayer emojis)' accompanied with a picture of the area cordoned off, with ambulance, air ambulance, police and fire engine (the person landed on a car underneath) all in attendance.

Ofc they're not ok. There is an incredibly low possibility they wold survive the fall, and even if they did, its blatantly obvious they wouldn't be ok. Just post the road is closed to warn people and stop taking pictures of what is clearly a tragic scene. Idiot.

LoisWilkersonslastnerve · 29/01/2022 21:50

My local fb is full of attention seeking wallopers. I also hate the people with no manners eg "plumbers number?" SAY PLEASE!

Agrudge · 29/01/2022 21:52

During the 1st lockdown:

While I was doing my daily exercise I saw...

While doing my essential shopping I saw...

maddiemookins16mum · 29/01/2022 21:55

I have (just for fun 🤔), looked at my local Spotted Town. Someone has just asked if anyone has a female dog in need of a seeing to as his male dog needs to relieve himself (or words to that effect).

Bimblybomeyelash · 29/01/2022 21:57

I like all the mundane posts. I like the fact that it’s the same sort of thing up and down the country. And the same sort of conversations online that Maud and Elieen would have been having at the bus stop 30 Years ago.

toppkatz · 29/01/2022 22:00

Ours has a repeat-offender parrot that pops up from time to time because people see it minding its own business, sitting in a tree. Yes, it has an owner, yes, it has escaped, no, they can't catch it. Grin

We also have repeat-offender roadworks. Honestly, the number of times this one small stretch of road has been dug up, had traffic lights or been closed altogether over the last couple of years is unreal, and I reckon it should be in the Guinness Book of Records by now.

Auntieobem · 29/01/2022 22:01

Bank card ones really piss me off. Recent one on our local page - found a bank card in the atm at x bank this morning, if uou can tell me the details upu can have it back. Fuck off! Why didn't you just hand it into the bank then whoever left it there could get it back?? Instead you take it home and post on bloody Facebook. Virtue signalling at its worst.

SnotMikeUpPuffedHe · 29/01/2022 22:02

Mine currently has 'there's a badly injured deer by the hedge in X lane. Is anyone available to go and shoot it?'

daimbarsatemydogsbone · 29/01/2022 22:05

YABU for using Facebook at all and for using it to find out when the tip is open.

Lactarius · 29/01/2022 22:09

There was a query about police and ambulances on my street the day I found my son's body. I replied to say why they were there following which the thread was quickly deleted.

The query didn't upset me (how could my day have got worse?) and I ended up making a new thread explaining the situation as it was easier to have everyone know at once rather than having to answer questions/quash rumours etc. later on.

Generally my local one is quiet but the one for my parents' village makes the place appear to be a septic quagmire of dog mess which can't be seen for all the bonfire smoke, whilst feral children on bikes set off fireworks in order to enquire as whether or not the chip van is at The Woolpack tonight.

millymoo1202 · 29/01/2022 22:13

I thought these groups had been set up for entertainment value! 😫

PickAChew · 29/01/2022 22:14

We have the usual missing/found cats and also owls. The owls are probably eating the cats.

Though, today, it's all fallen trees and people wondering if they can grab themselves some free logs.

withlotsoflove · 29/01/2022 22:17

@Lemonlady22

My local Nextdoor is full of strange people, Gordon keep putting pics of himself sitting in the bath, some woman begging for stuff cos she's broke, she wants to make a cake so she asked for not only all the ingredients, she wanted a mixing bowl and a cake tin...weirdos
Wonder if you’re near me. My local one has the exact same request today! Mine got masses of responses…like the locals were trying to outdo themselves! 😂
Tigresswoods · 29/01/2022 22:18

Ooh we have a weird local recurring theme I bet you all have?!

There's a bloke with a heavily tattooed face who just stands outside a shop all day, every day. He's doing no one any harm but he does obviously look a bit suspicious.

At least weekly dialogue about him. What a nice guy he is. Speculation on his mental health. Calling out anyone who dares judge him for standing on a street corner all day doing nothing.

Bor-ring.

FangsForTheMemory · 29/01/2022 22:19

@Grasping

Isn’t this exactly what local FB groups are for?
Exactly although I think the bank card should have been handed in to the bank.

The village group did spend about a week on the search for one person's missing eagle owl. There were almost hourly updates of where she'd been sighted with enough photos taken to impress the CIA.
Tigresswoods · 29/01/2022 22:21

A youth held a door open for me at the shop. It really restored my faith in all of humanity. As parents you should be proud. Great old fashioned values. Blah blah blah...

MuchuseasaChocolateTeapot · 29/01/2022 22:22

There was one on our local Facebook village pages asking (seriously) for recommendations for a marriage counsellor. Way to announce it!

Timeturnerplease · 29/01/2022 22:25

Our village site is literally all about fighting planning applications.
