Going to an event, we were massively delayed in traffic getting to pils .They couldn't wait for us.
So when we arrived they were leaving and mil clocked our friend in pils old tux which dh had leant him, an old 80s thing.??

Dh served us done drinks by which point fil was calling dh saying if we didn't leave immediately we wouldn't get a space in the car park! When we got to the car park it was half empty.
Mil then questioned dh about the tux friend wearing as she felt it was actually fils old one and that was for dh not to give away.

What?
You arrived at theirs and they were leaving but you stayed at theirs anyway so DH could serve you a drink?
Did PIL call you from the event to tell you about the car park?
Could you explain a bit?

Notonthestairs · 28/01/2022 21:24

Rude of MIL to draw attention to a borrowed suit. But ignore. Big drink (alcoholic or otherwise). Distract yourself with other people. Have a dance and forget all about them.
Don't waste your evening out fretting about them.

Hisanimalgrace · 28/01/2022 21:29

Not on the stairs it was a few weeks ago.

We were supposed to be all meeting at theirs, same town as the event. Traffic meant we got their late. They said have a drink but mil looked panicked when she saw our friend and I don't think they wanted us there unattended so made up some crap about the car park to get us out then when we did see them mil questioned dh about the tux!

Are you a wee bit drunk?

Dishwashersaurous · 28/01/2022 21:34

What?

You were late, and then you stopped for a drink?

ButtockUp · 28/01/2022 21:38

Maybe try posting coherently?

karlakourt · 28/01/2022 21:39

I'll have what she's having

Notonthestairs · 28/01/2022 21:39

Ok. So MIL was rude/unnecessary about an old suit.

But I'd suggest it's not worth a lot of headspace.

Hisanimalgrace · 28/01/2022 21:41

She was rude about the friend, and the suit and desperately tried to get dh out of the house. Confused

Hisanimalgrace · 28/01/2022 21:43

Morgan12 · 28/01/2022 21:45

😂😂😂😂😂😂 this is complete nonsense.

SomethingSuss · 28/01/2022 21:45

I'm confused.

Northernlurker · 28/01/2022 21:46

It's you who were rude.

Firstly you were late. Which probably caused them some stress.

Then you ignore said stress so you can have a drink. Of course they offered, that's polite. You were supposed to decline and get your arse in gear.

Then you turned out to have given away your fil's tux to a stranger (to them)

And now you are being rude about them online

grapewine · 28/01/2022 21:46

Of course she wanted people to leave her house if you were late for the event.

Inspectorslack · 28/01/2022 21:47

I don’t understand.

VodselForDinner · 28/01/2022 21:47

You’re being unreasonable, and incoherent.

Hankunamatata · 28/01/2022 21:49

Eh Have I got this right
You were massively late getting to pil house so they left without you (fair enough as I hate being late). You then went into their house, helped yourself to drinks then fil rang to say you needed to hurry up.

At some point mil was annoyed dh gave away the tux that his dad gave him.

MrsTerryPratchett · 28/01/2022 21:51

What I think is that you were late. FIL offered a drink. MIL looked stressed and you believe this was her judging your friend's tux. However it's far more likely she was stressed because you were late. The car park being full was also a worry for her.

Hisanimalgrace · 28/01/2022 21:52

My post is about being Petty.
Trying to oust us from the house, not leaving us in peace. Panicking about us being in their house for moments and trying to get us out then moaning about an old cast off sported by a friend she called "dreadful "

OP posts:
Inspectorslack · 28/01/2022 21:53

But you were late?

Elaine2468 · 28/01/2022 21:54

Can you really not see why people are confused by this? Confused Why would you think it OK to be even later by stopping for a drink?

If you give something away to someone it's theirs to do with as they wish. It can be quite hurtful to see they've passed it on to someone else though especially if it was something important. Something sentimental or expensive.
She shouldn't have been rude about it (if she was,) but maybe she was upset their gift seemed to be unwanted.

grapewine · 28/01/2022 21:55

You were "massively late" though! What were you expecting? YABU for sure.
