Going to an event, we were massively delayed in traffic getting to pils .They couldn't wait for us.
So when we arrived they were leaving and mil clocked our friend in pils old tux which dh had leant him, an old 80s thing.??

Dh served us done drinks by which point fil was calling dh saying if we didn't leave immediately we wouldn't get a space in the car park! When we got to the car park it was half empty.
Mil then questioned dh about the tux friend wearing as she felt it was actually fils old one and that was for dh not to give away.

What the hell am I reading?

@Hisanimalgrace

Ok so you're expecting your son to meet you at yours to sort of have pre drinks at event you live in the town.

Unfortunately your son and wife and friends are late.

So instead of saying...relax..have a drink. Hopefully we'll see you down there..you actually panic and desperately try and get them out? Why???

Any normal son, partner and friends would apologise for being late, pop the loo and head to the event.

It really isn't normal to invite people to relax when they are already an hour late

HalzTangz · 31/01/2022 23:33

@Hisanimalgrace

But the car park is never busy, I knew it would not be busy at all.

Doesn't anyone find treating a grown adult son like this demeaning??

They absolutely panicked about him being in the house, they defiantly lied about the car park .

Isn't it demeaning slagging off your partner's parents.

You were late (albeit traffic but still late)

They left on time

You choose to be even more rude, by staying for drinks making yourselves 30+ minutes later than you should have been.

Give your head a wobble

So many people have pointed out why your PILs would want to be on time for a formal event when they had seats in a box (who paid for your tickets BTW?) and you are focused on having pre match drinks - the clue is in the name PRE_ MATCH, not while the match is going on!.

And your response is to accuse them of lying about the car park.

No. It's not demeaning to ask an invited guest to turn up on time to an event and when they are late but stop off at your house for drinks anyway, its not demeaning to warn them that the car park for said event might be starting to fill up... perhaps that was a polite way of asking if you were planning to get there before curtain up

Surely this is all a big wind up?

DuckbilledSplatterPuff · 01/02/2022 20:20

I missed two pages and can see this was going in a completely different direction.
In my imagination the friend looked like Ray Bloody Purchase in his borrowed tux, whilst the house had a "What we do in the Shadows" vibe, with everyone in evening dress... but I'm completely thrown by the leg cocking, fag rolling gourmet Gene Wilder clone wielding his posh tiny vegetable arrays. Maybe the PILS did miss out on pre match drinks afterall.

Anyone worked out what event requires tuxedos, a box but you can rock up at any time? I'm thinking pro wrestling.

Music hall. Trust me on this...
HerRoyalHappiness · 01/02/2022 20:57

@PonyPatter44 you seem very certain of that. Shock are you the MIL?! Grin
