I know it is DM, but this has really angered the feminist in me. AIBU to feel like this? Or is it justified?

It looks like a man with a beer belly

BigYellowHat · 28/01/2022 16:02

Definitely justified. When someone without a womb can give birth then they can have this emoji. Until then, they can’t. What is the world coming to??!

OneTC · 28/01/2022 16:03

When someone without a womb can give birth then they can have this emoji

That's not who it's for though.

WeRTheOnesWeHaveBeenWaitingFor · 28/01/2022 16:05

So are they getting rid of ‘pregnant women’ is it going to be pregnant man/person?

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 28/01/2022 16:05

It's nothing to do with not having a womb.

It's for trans men.

Mollymalone11 · 28/01/2022 16:05

All part of the campaign to erase women! Even using the word woman now is not allowed. It’s amazing how a tiny share of the worlds population are insisting on minimising 50% of the population and belittling / erasing their lived experiences. It’s awful.

owlinnahat · 28/01/2022 16:07

There are pregnant people who identify as men or non binary. That's who the emoji is for.

SarahProblem · 28/01/2022 16:08

It's for trans men aka biological women They do exist. Don't like it? Don't use it.

RedToothBrush · 28/01/2022 16:08

We are going to end up with kids thinking the fat bloke down the pub is 5 years pregnant because no one told the truth to them about biology.

Ijustreallywantacat · 28/01/2022 16:08

People who call themselves men do sometimes get pregnant. People who call themselves women but have very short haircuts, flat chests and masculine features do sometimes get pregnant. The pregnant woman emoji has not been taken away. Don't see the big deal.

I'm never going to stop using the word woman and they are no replacing the female pregnant emoji. Just don't use this one.

I am against the cis terminology and want to keep female only spaces, but this? I can't get worked up about

Spookytooth · 28/01/2022 16:09

I prefer pregnant man and pregnant woman - than pregnant person.

TheOccupier · 28/01/2022 16:14

Ugh, what woke-pandering bullshit. When I broke my ankle last year and spent weeks on crutches wearing a giant boot there was NO EMOJI FOR ME. What's more common, broken bones or pregnant women who look like men?

CurbsideProphet · 28/01/2022 16:14

Interesting that a biological woman who identifies as non-binary or as male would do the most womanly act possible of becoming pregnant. We can tip toe around with awkward language changes, calling women "people", and creating new emojis, but the fact is that only biological women can become pregnant. There's nothing offensive about scientific fact.

It wouldn’t surprise me!
DownWhichOfLate · 28/01/2022 16:17

Pregnant man is going to really confuse children! Madness.

ineedakip · 28/01/2022 16:17

Joke! Whatever next! Hmm

PinkyU · 28/01/2022 16:21

You’re angry that an emoji has been created that doesn’t apply to you and you won’t use, so then don’t use it. As has been said, it’s not replaced anything else it’s an addition.

Were you equally annoyed when skin colour representations, single parents or same sex family emojis were added for inclusivity also, or is it solely because it represents a trans person that you’re “angry”?

Thedogscollar · 28/01/2022 16:24

Absolutely.
Mollymalone11 · 28/01/2022 16:25

@PinkyU actually women are angry that a emoji has been created to reflect a situation that doesn’t exist. Only biological women can get pregnant. Men cannot get pregnant. This emoji is factually and scientifically incorrect and part of a much larger campaign of erasing women and making woman a dirty word.

ABCeasyasdohrayme · 28/01/2022 16:28

You know you don't have to get angry at absolutely anything that represents a trans person right?

They have added to the pregnant emoji, not replaced it, so you can either use the appropriate one for you, or, if you feel that strongly just boycot the pregnancy emoji entirely, that'll teach em.

PinkyU · 28/01/2022 16:30

It’s a fucking emoji, it doesn’t have to “factually or scientifically correct” it’s a cartoon representation of a stereotypically masculine looking person who has a bump!

Tasty that koolaid huh(?)

owlinnahat · 28/01/2022 16:32

Not really. They may not be keen on being pregnant but really want to be a parent. Or they might identify as non binary specifically because they feel that "woman" is heavily linked to a bunch of social roles/history/narratives that they don't identify with but are fine with the biological stuff. They might not see gender as super biological and think that you can be super womanly while being infertile or post menopausal. They might just not attribute the same meaning to childbirth that you do because people are different.

ThanksIGotItInMorrisons · 28/01/2022 16:32

so many women on here being offended on behalf of trans men. ‘ it’s not for you, why is it bothering you, just don’t use it, it’s for trans men who have the right to have babies ‘ bla bla bla. It’s bullshit. Women get pregnant and have babies. End of. You cannot be a man and a woman. If you’re pregnant and having a baby your a woman. Only women get pregnant. A fat bellied man emoji is just that. I’ll keep on saying it. Women are the only sex biologically and scientifically and factually able to have babies. Doesn’t matter what gender you claim to be or prefer to be, it is a fact that women have babies. So you can fuck right off with all your sanctimonious crap about trans men and cis women , and pregnant people and chest feeding parents and all that crap. We are women. We breast feed. Stop trying to write us off and wipe us out. It’s not happening.

slashlover · 28/01/2022 16:36

Women get pregnant and have babies. End of.

Right. But some women have short hair. Or some women have transitioned and now have masculine features, why should they not be represented?
