I know it is DM, but this has really angered the feminist in me. AIBU to feel like this? Or is it justified?

Completely ridiculous. But I guess if I ever use it, I’ll only use it as a “beer belly” emoji. Males cannot be pregnant. And no emoji from Apple is going to erase fact.

MooSakah · 28/01/2022 16:39

It's just a person with a different haircut to the other person. Both could be women?

MooSakah · 28/01/2022 16:40

The two look identical to each other apart from a different hair cut.

Mollymalone11 · 28/01/2022 16:40

@PinkyU

It’s a fucking emoji, it doesn’t have to “factually or scientifically correct” it’s a cartoon representation of a stereotypically masculine looking person who has a bump!

Tasty that koolaid huh(?)

Awh, I would love to be as naïve as you. Must be great to be so oblivious.
PinkyU · 28/01/2022 16:41

Correct, men can’t get pregnant. Transmen can though, that is who (amongst others) is being represented here.

If you avoided the hyperbole it would be much easier to have your views acknowledged, most women don’t feel any impact of inclusive language, acts or laws so when you use words like “write us off, wipe us out” you lose so much traction. You might not care, you might view this as me saying “be nice” but you want people/women to open their eyes, your approach is making us close our ears.

TonyThreePies · 28/01/2022 16:43

It's going to be misused as so many emojis are and used as a beer belly emoji I reckon.

SirChenjins · 28/01/2022 16:45

Their terminology is off - they should say pregnant transmen to show that that they are women and always will be.

PinkyU · 28/01/2022 16:45

@Mollymalone11 you say naive I say not narrow minded, I’m sure there’s middle ground.

Sparklingbrook · 28/01/2022 16:47

I can't think of when that emoji would be useful at all.

Mollymalone11 · 28/01/2022 16:48

@PinkyU most women don’t feel any impact of inclusive language, acts or laws so if it doesn’t impact you don’t care about the impact on other women? How self-centred and over privileged.

PinkyU · 28/01/2022 16:48

Except they’re not women, they’re trans men.

They are biologically female which is why they can carry a pregnancy, they are still trans men, not women.

Female: biological

Woman: socially constructed

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 28/01/2022 16:49

Bloody bloody men.

secsee · 28/01/2022 16:50

@Spookytooth

I prefer pregnant man and pregnant woman - than pregnant person.

If there's a pregnant man out there, he should be in the Guinness book of world records.

HelloFrostyMorning · 28/01/2022 16:51

Not justified. Fucking ridiculous.

SirChenjins · 28/01/2022 16:52

@PinkyU

Except they’re not women, they’re trans men.

Woman: socially constructed

No - they’re women who prefer to dress as men.

Male women do not and cannot exist

HelloFrostyMorning · 28/01/2022 16:54

@Derbee

Exactly. MEN cannot be pregnant. EVER. Fact.

And it's not a fact because I SAY it's a fact. It's a fact because it's a fact.

FACT!

PattyPan · 28/01/2022 16:56

Yanbu. Plus there have only been a handful of trans men/NB people getting pregnant - why has this emoji been put in now when there are so many others that would be relevant to more than a few people across the world? Pressure from TRAs undoubtedly.

Mollymalone11 · 28/01/2022 16:56

@PinkyU are you for real? You seriously believe Women don’t exist in objective reality but only because humans agree we exist? If humans stop agreeing women exist do we all disappear in a puff of smoke??

CounsellorTroi · 28/01/2022 16:58

Interesting that a biological woman who identifies as non-binary or as male would do the most womanly act possible of becoming pregnant.

Do you think that a woman who cannot or does not want to become pregnant is less of a woman then?

PonyPatter44 · 28/01/2022 16:59

@CurbsideProphet

Interesting that a biological woman who identifies as non-binary or as male would do the most womanly act possible of becoming pregnant. We can tip toe around with awkward language changes, calling women "people", and creating new emojis, but the fact is that only biological women can become pregnant. There's nothing offensive about scientific fact.
Exactly! Be non- binary if you like, but pretending that "men" can become pregnant is just silly.
PinkyU · 28/01/2022 17:01

The concept of womanhood has changed throughout history and is different is different cultures and societies.

If you asked 1000 people of differing ages, ethnicity, cultural backgrounds and sociodemographics what is womanhood you would get differing answers because it is experience based.

Being female is an unwavering biological fact.

firstimemamma · 28/01/2022 17:02

Urgh. I read an ad in my local magazine today from my local breastfeeding group. It now says breastfeeding and chest feeding ffs.

Ibrokemydietlastnight · 28/01/2022 17:03

Absolutely this.

MistyGreenAndBlue · 28/01/2022 17:04

It's nothing to do with not having a womb.

It's for trans men.

Except its not, is it? Not really.

We KNOW it's not.
