What statement does a nose piercing make?

At 26, after wanting it for years and never having the guts, I have just had my nose pierced with a very small, thin silver hoop. I really love it!

But asked DH for his honest opinion and he says he isn't keen. It just got me thinking what kind of statement a nose piercing makes? As in what assumptions would you make about someone with a nose piercing/what kind of look it goes with?

You can be honest, it won't upset me!

Doesn't say anything to me other than you like nose piercings.

Helpel · 28/01/2022 18:26

@AllThingsServeTheBeam I was more of a townie myself (think white puffa jacket and hair in a high pony on top of my head!) but had a number of lovely friends who fit this bill! Of course we weren't allowed to associate in school!

OnlyAFleshWound · 28/01/2022 18:27

"I have had my nose pierced."

Scianel · 28/01/2022 18:28

I've had a nose piercing for 25 years now and I doubt it says much any more, given that people are now wandering around with fleshtunnels and neck tattoos.
It's mine and I like it though.

That you don’t be suffer from hay fever or catch every cold that’s passing!

UnsuitableHat · 28/01/2022 18:29

I don’t think it makes any particular statement. I think it can look really nice.

Has no impact on nose blowing. I currently have covid and have a tissue shoved up each nostril. My nose ring is still in
CourtRand · 28/01/2022 18:34

That you like nose piercings? Maybe that you're slightly alternative

Electriq · 28/01/2022 18:34

It says 'I wanted my nose pierced, so I got it done'

Back in the day I was an 'emo'. So I was only allowed to speak to my mod friends outside of school 😂

garlictwist · 28/01/2022 18:35

I'd think you were either in a vegan drumming circle or a punk band.

muddyford · 28/01/2022 18:35

It looks like a large bogey...

5128gap · 28/01/2022 18:38

I think some people must live incredibly sheltered lives if a nose piercing is so alien to them that they ascribe personality traits like sad and confused, try hard etc to people who have them. Do some people never go out, watch TV, or have any medium whereby they see or meet people who have different styles to their own? If you haven't yet met a diverse enough range of people to know a nose piercing doesn't equate to a personality type, you're missing out.

tkwal · 28/01/2022 18:43

I would prefer a dainty stud to a hoop but that's because I imagine a hoop getting caught in clothing, have seen the scars from that happening(to be fair there was also a chain connecting nose and ear). Generally I think piercings portray someone who is comfortable with themselves

Abcdefyouandyourmum · 28/01/2022 18:46

I’d assume you were a goth/hippy/rocker or a lentil weaver. You vote Green and use plant based deodorant. You have a scraggy moggy and drink pints of lager out of plastic cups in a hot tent in August whilst watching bands. You’re a nice person or incredibly scary nothing inbetween.

Goldilocks99 · 28/01/2022 18:47

It says to me you have a nice shaped nose. One really wouldn't work on my enormous conk, but think it looks so pretty on a ski slope or pug nose.
I'd rather a stud than a hoop for practical reasons-scared I might rip it out accidentally!

StillMedusa · 28/01/2022 18:48

I'm having mine done at half term... I'm 54!!!
Had it done years ago but it fell out quickly and I couldn't get it back in.
Now I'm a middle aged slightly hippy-ish (long greying hair) post menopausal lady with zero fucks to give.. and want my nose pierced!

Only waiting til half term as I have a week off from the school hydro pool , and prefer to avoid that little germ soup!

In these parts you are an older teen/young twenties who is none of the above. The ones I know are all nice people.
Goldandguns · 28/01/2022 20:44

@Esspee

I would assume that you also have tattoos and no qualifications so probably work in a cafe, call centre or car wash.
I suppose my teaching degree and lack of tattoos are all null and void now thanks to my nose ring Smile
PinkSyCo · 28/01/2022 20:50

It’s just a nose piercing. It doesn’t really make any kind of statement really. All sorts of people have them.

whysoserious123 · 28/01/2022 23:44

They used to be super popular so I wouldn't of got one then because I like to be different but now they aren't so it's probably a good time to get it so your a bit different and then when the wave of popularity comes back your one step ahead of the IN crowd if that's what you like or you can take it out and not follow the trends the choice is yours

Bigoldhag · 28/01/2022 23:48

I’ve had a nose ring (fine silver one) for 10 years. Its not impacted my career as far as I can tell and I have noticed that its less obvious to people than a stud with a diamante type thing as it doesnt sparkle.

Some people have not really registered I have it until its come up in conversation!

Dita73 · 28/01/2022 23:53

I’d think “bit rough and has/wants a tattoo on their arse”

milkyaqua · 28/01/2022 23:57

I think they can look very pretty sometimes. But I also immediately wonder if inside they are encrusted with dried boogers.

DiddyHeck · 29/01/2022 00:00

It doesn't make any statement at 26. At 40+ I'd say possible 'midlife crisis' statement if any at all but even then, why not?
