Video in twitter thread linked.
It's a man being fucking EXTREMELY creepy to a 17 yr old girl who's just trying to shop in a thrift store.

I'm betting it's most of us, right?
My first one was when I was 10- FUCKING TEN!
Creepy ice cream man asking all sorts of inappropriate questions, leering at me and asking if I was alone and where my parents were.
Then basically just continued.

I can't even count the amount of interactions like this I had when I was younger.

This is so, so relatable it's painful.

It actually made me feel sick watching, all the fear, panic and not knowing how to get out of it, the fear that if you simply tell them to fuck off or something that they will get aggressive or worse, stalk you when you get out.

Serious serial killer vibes as well trying to get her to come work on his fucking remote property, someone get the sniffer dogs out there.

For fuck sake.

Video here

AIBU to think this is just normal life for so many girls and women?
And AIBU to think why the fuck can't we get this fucking sorted in 2022??

@Michellexxx

Fucksake! Wine

But enjoying the insight: it demonstrates how in built this sense of superiority is, at such a young age.

@SartresSoul

Can you even imagine being a bald middle aged man thinking you’d ever have a shot with a teenage girl like this? What goes through their mind, seriously? They must look in the mirror and have some sort of body dysmorphia, Shallow Hal style believing they’re some sort of Adonis. It’s just mental. What a creep and he kept going as well, it was so obvious she wasn’t interested AT ALL but he couldn’t just leave it. Crikey.

But yes, I’ve dealt with things like this from a young age too. I think most girls are leered at in school uniform. My science teacher used to do it to me when I was 13 years old, he was probably only about 10 years older than me but you know 13-23 is obviously more than wrong to the vast majority...

Well, I really do think many men think like this, though, that they would have a chance because that female is just an object to him, and one that he is 'entitled' to.

I'm afraid to say that things are getting worse not better and on-line porn is the leading factor in this. The government seems to be doing nothing about it so we ladies can't expect any improvement any decade soon.

As for other men standing up and saying something about it - I'm not hearing them so no support there.
Not much help from the police either.

My daughters have decided to NOT have children because if they're girls they will have to put up with this, and if they're boys they will be doing this to girls.

Thanks for that Olsen article @ChargingBuck (and for your very sensible and measured posts, which have made an emotionally exhausting thread more bearable). I feel like forwarding the link to every man I know and highlighting this line:

I am tired of holding the hands of men in my life while also keeping my fists clenched as men I don’t know penetrate my space and expect my time.

Spot. On.

@LightSpeeds this is so sad. I completely agree with you though - things are getting worse IMO...the 90s ladette culture of my day seems almost innocent by comparison. As a mother to young daughters I'm bloody terrified.

IvorCutler · 29/01/2022 22:43

I was told at 6 by a man, that men would love my lips when I was older and one day I’d know why. Fucking creep. That was the first of many disgusting encounters. My daughter is 6 and the thought of anyone being inappropriate with her makes me feel physically ill. And very angry.

Onthedunes · 29/01/2022 23:05

@Alayalaya

The video is creepy because it’s a child of 17 being harassed by an adult man. He must know he’s far too old to be hitting on her and yet he persists in being inappropriate. Then he tries to persuade her to accompany him to a garage on his isolated property. This is way more than just the normal sort of unwanted male attention from someone who fancies you, it’s borderline paedophilia and serial killer vibes.
It is very worrying, for him to persevere and offer her this 'job' in his garage, surely he must have known how intimidating this was for a young woman.

I hope he's named and shamed.

All women had had this i'm sure, the entitlement of these deluded men make you vomit and you tend to lose respect for the male species.

And they wonder why many women hate men.
Absolute predators.

PuttingThisHereJustThisOnce · 29/01/2022 23:31

I’m so sick of this too, OP. For me, I grew up with a dad who ruled the house with his fists and temper. I learnt to shut up and put up very early on. Every time I received male attention I thought I had to do as I was told. The ice cream man when I was ten, the local wannabe stud when I was fourteen, the school bus driver when I was fourteen, my Saturday job boss when I was fifteen, another ice cream man when I was fifteen. By the time I was eighteen I knew I’d been had and it took best part of a decade to shake off the feeling of filth and dirt inside. Now I’m a mum to a 6 year old girl and I fear for her but at the same time I am teaching her to take no shit when it comes to body autonomy. In an age appropriate way, before anyone jumps in. I’m angry at how society accepts “boys will be boys”, teenage boys are “cheeky”, average age men like to “try their luck” and older men are practically idolised if they’re still active on the dating scene and seen to be “keeping their effin hand in”
They can all just f-off.
Yes I’ve name changed for this because I’m still so embarrassed about being taken advantage of at an age when I knew no different, thought men were superior and that I should be a good girl and do as I was told.
I’ve never said any of this to anyone ever. I feel thankful for being able to here.

nalabae · 30/01/2022 00:43

Never heard of the word thrift
And yes this is normal and not just for teen girls women in general. Most men are inappropriate

@BlackMagicWimpund thank YOU for sensible & measured, as I have been feeling anything but, for patriarchy-related reasons, for far too much of today.
