To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall Part 2 http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/amiibeingunreasonable/4459992-To-be-really-enjoying-Boris-Johnsons-downfall-Part-2

And on it goes.

I read last week that Johnson is basically lazy but very competitive and has pitted himself against Cameron and wants to stay in office longer than he did.
So yes I think he'll style it out regardless and cling on - it's all down to the Tory MP's now.

I saw that. He was clearly pissed off that the plebs were daring to question Johnson's actions. His patronising tone strongly reminded me of one of the posters on this thread, so much so I wondered for a second if he could actually be that poster!

I know what you mean!

He was really pissed that he was being questioned in detail, he's not used to us peasants doing it so vigorously. He looked rattled and irritable and kept spouting off about cabinet ministers and secrecy. Almost like we the public deserve to know nothing.

Roussette · 26/01/2022 08:27

Oh yes. He incenses me. As I said on another thread, he's a cross between a victorian wank sock and a book of handy victorian phrases. (That didn't go down well with a couple of pro-Boris posters, don't care, I'm repeating it!)

15:03:40 declaration of interests followed by open pisstake on Johnson

I realise I'm a bit boring, but their evidence into MP corruption and conflicts of interest is interesting. Runs from 15:03:00 to 15:48:00.

Also criticise the "hardworking" excuse for this behaviour that keeps being trotted out (15:43:00).

draramallama · 26/01/2022 08:36

Including the point being made that the current party scandal is not a "new" scandal, it's an ongoing scandal that currently happens to be receiving more public attention.

Getting rid of Johnson won't actually resolve anything and might make it easier to bury the ongoing corruption.

@the80sweregreat

Blimey, the PM and the current Mrs Johnson confused ' by the old bubble rules? Or did they think bubble meant Prosecco ? How did they get on with the ' tier ' rules then? They were even worse . Wasn't that hard , but if an old Etonian couldn't grasp it , then that must make me a genius !! As if!! 😂 Couldn't make it up. Well , they did and they still didn't get it .
Probably thought tiers referred to cake!
Roussette · 26/01/2022 08:43

@draramallama

Thank you for the link, it is really interesting. Chris Bryant is very good.

Notonthestairs · 26/01/2022 08:47

If all the staff in No 10,11&12 - and presumably everyone at Chequers - were in one GIANT household bubble did that mean the staff and families weren't allowed to form their own bubbles? "No you can't see your mother because I'm in a bubble with Johnson." I mean it's just nonsense.

Just heard Truss being interviewed on Radio 4. She comes across as another patronising idiot.

DuncinToffee · 26/01/2022 08:49

Conservative peer Lord Finkelstein: "Jacob Rees Mogg says both inaccurately and intellectually offensively that this is a row about cake- this is a row about whether govts are subject to the laws they set, which is a far more profound question than about bday cake."

IpanemaPeaHen · 26/01/2022 08:49

Notonthestairs a school friend worked with him in the foreign office. Said he was extremely lazy, always distracted and hated detail of any kind.

Also everything was a big joke. Eg. Planning meeting coming up with French officials, instead of listening Boris starts up with a fake French accent and oo la la’s. He was exasperating to work with.

He is not fit for high office and never was.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 26/01/2022 08:55

The new “workplace bubble” excuse is truly preposterous

No.12 is a separate building, as is Chequers. Nos. 10 & 11, on the other hand, are linked internally and have a joint garden.

I would hope the SG report investigates the claim of a "bubble", but the sad truth of the matter is that the covid legislation was drawn up quickly and doesn't go into such issues as how large a combined work and domestic bubble can be.

Blossomtoes · 26/01/2022 09:11

Ah, found you. I wonder what delights today will bring.

I also have a friend who worked with him in the civil service as she said exactly the same as your friend. And that the only detail he had any time for was details that might affect his own career.

And a Tory party politician I know says that he’s like a spitting image puppet of himself.

@Tealightsandd

I think an actual real donkey would do a good job.

Gentle, kind, strong, hardworking.

Damn right.

Alexandra2001 · 26/01/2022 09:15

Truss already hiding behind "it wouldn't be right for me to comment on an on going police investigation...."

Drag it out, hope n pray Putin keeps up the tension in Ukraine or better still invades and Bojo will be there for the next GE.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 09:17

I'm being ambushed today by tea and toast.

Blossomtoes · 26/01/2022 09:20

In some ways it might be a good thing if he was still PM at the next election because the last two years will be what he’s judged on. It would be electoral oblivion.

Gotta laugh so you don't cry.

The options are grim, aren't they? God help us.

CSWife · 26/01/2022 09:31

DH is a civil servant and he's had both Truss and Gove as Secretary of State. He's pretty chilled and used to working with a huge cross section of people. The best he could say of Truss is that she's an awful, awful person. On the other hand, he was impressed by Gove's work ethic. He spent time learning the subject matter and got things done. He was respectful and took the job seriously.

(Obviously as a CS DH couldn't possibly comment on what he actually thinks of their policies Grin)

I don't really want any of the Tories, but Gove is starting to feel like the lesser of the evils.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 09:34

Hmm, I'm old and still not convinced that people wouldn't vote Conservative , a lot of people think this is all overblown and a witch hunt. You'd be surprised ( outside of this forum or this particular thread )
I don't know many people who vote Labour or lid dem where I live.
Don't underestimate the power of a Conservative election campaign and MPs like Rees Mogg are in very safe seats.
Plus Labour have Angela Raynor and she is very divisive too.
Don't write them off yet , despite everything that's gone on!

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 09:34

Lib not lid ..

I was ambushed by a bacon butty, it wasn't my fault DH has been unwell, fancied bacon and when I made his the leftovers attacked me. I'm hoping to be ambushed by a cake at some point today, lets hope the return of his appetite continues.
