If I was ambushed by a ginger cake I'd really sulk !! Those ones wouldn't stand a chance
Nice iced cakes , that would be ok!

UnconditionalSurrender · 26/01/2022 09:42

Liz Truss says no 10 doesn't have the report. I bet this means they do. No way hes doing PMQs with that out there.
I once worked for a narcissist and when it all imploded it was like where we are now. A parallel universe where people lied, dissembled and started diverting attention onto tiny insignificant details as everything crashed and burned. One of the worst times of my life. They will cling on as long as they possibly can. Its an unedifying sight.

CryingAtTheDiscotheque · 26/01/2022 09:43

Yes, it is all starting to look very Trump-esque.

@CSWife

DH is a civil servant and he's had both Truss and Gove as Secretary of State. He's pretty chilled and used to working with a huge cross section of people. The best he could say of Truss is that she's an awful, awful person. On the other hand, he was impressed by Gove's work ethic. He spent time learning the subject matter and got things done. He was respectful and took the job seriously.

(Obviously as a CS DH couldn't possibly comment on what he actually thinks of their policies Grin)

I don't really want any of the Tories, but Gove is starting to feel like the lesser of the evils.

I've got to the point where I'm eyeing Jeremy Hunt and thinking he might be the least worst option, and I'm an NHS worker!

Like Johnson, Gove was a journalist before going into politics - but perhaps they aren't all bad (but Gove was a disaster as Secretary of State for Education, famed for cutting school budgets and reducing the curriculum to a bare minimum - almost all of the teaching unions passed votes of no confidence in him).
CSWife · 26/01/2022 09:48

@Florianus And this is the problem, IMHO his ideas stink. We're doomed.

I’m not a Tory voter at all, but would be happy with Gove. Would have been really happy with Rory Stewart but that ship has sailed sadly.

I'm enjoying the non-stop coverage of the Tory implosion again today Grin

Just watching Andrew Rossindale have abash at defending the indefensible Grin Grin Grin

He is saying 'most people want him to get on with the job' - hahahaha 62% want him to resign - love watching MPs tell the public they are wrong. Always ends well.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 09:50

Rory Stewart I could stomach,
The others are just meh. Gove and Sunak are both dangerous I think.
It won't solve much getting rid of the PM, but have to see.

Oh yes. He incenses me. As I said on another thread, he's a cross between a victorian wank sock and a book of handy victorian phrases. (That didn't go down well with a couple of pro-Boris posters, don't care, I'm repeating it!)

On one of the news programmes last night, can't remember which might have been Sky, they said he wanted to drop the report into the HofC on his way to PMQs then make a statement at PMQs so MPs would have had no knowledge of the report to challenge him. The Speaker said no he wasn't having that and there had been heated words between him and JRM.
DuncinToffee · 26/01/2022 09:53

Lewis Goodall latest tweet

Still much uncertainty but fwiw am told by WH sources that Gray report will “100%” be handed over today. Also told that Gray has already briefed No10 on contents and that “it’s not good news.”

Doesn’t mean we’ll see it today, of course, nor exactly what we’ll see when we do.

truthfullylying · 26/01/2022 09:53

I’m not a Tory voter at all, but would be happy with Gove Only someone who does not know much about him would think this, unless you are a massive fan of total chaos. He is in favour of ripping everything apart to rebuild in a new (shitter, less fair) way. Do we need calm after this pandemic or do we need chaos and upheaval?

Read up on him before deciding he is what this country needs. He is basically off the wall, policy-wise.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 09:56

I don’t think there’s a contender to take over from Boris who is capable of repairing the damage his cabinet have done. Whilst I don’t think there is a good replacement I’d settle for an actual adult in office for the time being.

Whoever takes over is going to be under an immense amount of scrutiny with a large portion of the population who were swayed by the last lot whose ears will be completely closed to the tories after this. Not that I think that necessarily means the tories won’t ever win a general election again (and I would love that) but I do think they’ve done immeasurable damage to public engagement in politics.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 09:58

The Speaker said no he wasn't having that and there had been heated words between him and JRM

I don’t condone violence at all but I’m constantly amazed that JRM isn’t sporting a black eye more often.

Feel like we are really battling for the soul of country with this issue, this tweet sums up why I feel this issue really, really matters and I will not be told by Tories it is trivial:

Shame we don't have the option of a PM from the House of Lords, I think Ruth Davidson would be better than anyone else on offer.

I've never been able to take him seriously since he said he wanted all children to be above average. It truly made my mind boggle.

I very much doubt that covid regulations were broken in "most homes" as claimed in that tweet, but we do know from the fact that 118,9632 fixed penalty fines have been issued that many did break the rules.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 10:06

I'm sure people will go ' not Ruth' but she seems ok. ( I don't know that much about her though to be fair. )
I think that Truss will be condescending and just lord it over everyone. She is poacher turned game keeper too ( politically speaking )
I just hope that Steve ' adrenaline rush ' Baker doesn't go for it as he is just odious. I'd rather have Gove and he isn't wonderful either :(
What a shambles.

Florianus · 26/01/2022 10:07

Sorry, an extra digit seems to have crept in that report on FPNs from Yahoo News.

You’re right, that’s exactly what’s happening.

I assume anyone thinking Gove would be a good shout realises that we’d also be getting Cummings? Gove’s been so suspiciously quiet lately that I half suspect all this is him putting the knife in Johnson’s back for the second time.

truthfullylying · 26/01/2022 10:14

This is what happened with Trump - previously decent people started to defend the indefensible, they were corrupted by him.

What Johnson has done is beyond the pale. He is corrupting the whole party with their defence of him.

truthfullylying · 26/01/2022 10:14

Gove and Cummings are indeed old allies.
