I've chosen my ambush cake BTW, chocolate fudge please.

saddowizca · 26/01/2022 10:15

I would be even happier with @Tealightsandd donkey!

DePfeffoff · 26/01/2022 10:22

I very much doubt that covid regulations were broken in "most homes" as claimed in that tweet, but we do know from the fact that 118,9632 fixed penalty fines have been issued that many did break the rules

But the rules were being enforced. And the head of the government which put them in place was repeatedly breaking or condoning the breaking of rules, wasn't paying any penalty for it, and is now lying about it to save his neck.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 10:27

A few of those fines were for people sitting outside on benches , not having cake with the their interior designer friends inside. Not in their bubble.
Plus, we all agree that people did break the rules , but I just hoped that the ones making them would stick to them. I know , I was naive eh? Plus, the police are involved now, so it must be pretty serious.

Roussette · 26/01/2022 10:27

I don’t condone violence at all but I’m constantly amazed that JRM isn’t sporting a black eye more often

Grin

Well... he was wearing a monocle at the age of 12, so that probably protected him at school
And yes there are photos of him dressed at that age like a toff with a monocle. (photos can be provided lol)

Please don't (do) let Truss be in the running for PM (the only reason of yes to this is so the Tories get a trouncing at the next GE, with Liz that is possible)
She is going very regal, she has lowered her voice an octave to sound more ministerial and she just loves having 'iconic' photos taken. One with a world globe in a drawing room at Chequers, in a tank, on a motorbike.
She's all talk with no substance

The rules were put in place by parliament, not by "the head of government". The latter should have kept to those rules, of course, but he wasn't made to pay any penalty for not doing so because the police at No.10 (who it is now claimed knew what was going on) did nothing to enforce the rules.

@CSWife

DH is a civil servant and he's had both Truss and Gove as Secretary of State. He's pretty chilled and used to working with a huge cross section of people. The best he could say of Truss is that she's an awful, awful person. On the other hand, he was impressed by Gove's work ethic. He spent time learning the subject matter and got things done. He was respectful and took the job seriously.

(Obviously as a CS DH couldn't possibly comment on what he actually thinks of their policies Grin)

I don't really want any of the Tories, but Gove is starting to feel like the lesser of the evils.

Actually - as someone who works in education if Gove came up with his education policies after hours of research.

There's no way I'd want him anywhere near running the country Grin

And even more worryingly him and DC are buddies. DC was his SPaD.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 10:29

What Johnson has done is beyond the pale. He is corrupting the whole party with their defence of him.

Whilst I don’t doubt there are a number of tories dismayed at the current mess I don’t doubt that a significant number have willingly and knowingly partaken in the construction of this cabinets corruption.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 10:29

The police are on that doorstep every single day . Yet they turned a blind eye
They are just as bad to be honest.
Yet they have to investigate it now ..
You couldn't make it up could you ?

"he police are involved now, so it must be pretty serious."

The police investigated Dominic Cummings drive to Barnard Castle. I expect you remember their conclusion: he might have broken covid rules, but they were taking no further action.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 10:32

No, they will probably just issue a few fines and it'll be a whitewash inquiry , I've no doubt
I just can't believe that the security there didn't say or do anything though.
Can't trust any of them

jgw1 · 26/01/2022 10:35

@saddowizca

I would be enjoying this a whole lot more if I thought he would actually go, but am convinced he will just hold on for grim death. I think people are going to get bored with it all and move on soon anyway.

Who would be your favourite to take over from him? I can't think of anyone tbh.

Holding on is also fine. It increases the chances that the Tories are truly thwacked at the next election.

They should be paying more attention to the people who did follow the rules - and the spirit of the rules - at great cost.

the80sweregreat · 26/01/2022 10:42

Flo, our PM may be interviewed under caution , the first PM ever. He broke the rules
Under the nose of the police.
Yet you continue to play it down , or reference D Cummings who was backed up by the ones who he is now knifing in the front ( so to speak )
None of it is good , this is when a leader should be seen to play by the rules and lead by example which they haven't done at all , they continued as if the lock down wasn't really affecting them or They chose to tweak the rules to suit their own agendas.
When we all couldn't.
It was immoral behavior when they could have actually looked good , but wine and cake was more important to them.

DuncinToffee · 26/01/2022 10:52

On top of the 'lots of people break laws' we now also have the 'he didn't rob a bank' defence from Andrew Rosindell don't know who he is either

DuncinToffee · 26/01/2022 10:55

Battling order for PMQ's

jgw1 · 26/01/2022 10:59

@Alexandra2001

Truss already hiding behind "it wouldn't be right for me to comment on an on going police investigation...."

Drag it out, hope n pray Putin keeps up the tension in Ukraine or better still invades and Bojo will be there for the next GE.

Do they not realise that all dragging it out does is make it more talked about? The public have for the most part made up their minds, they ain't going to change them and 22% think Boris is doing well.

They just don’t get it!

He told people that they must stay away from grieving relatives and friends with MH problems, but apparently it was fine for his interior designer to pop over for cake??? Apparently there were ‘work bubbles’ that could include hundreds of people??

I don’t want him to be thrown into jail. I just want him to stop being PM.

itsgettingweird · 26/01/2022 11:05

Battling order for PMQ's
I'm home isolating with covid!

What time and where can I watch PMQs?

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 11:05

There’s an obvious bias but for those interested the topic for James O’Brien on LBC this morning is asking the worst things Boris has done. It’s turning into quite a trawl down memory lane.

‘Getting Brexit done’ in memory of Jo Cox and the impact of his careless handling of the jailing of Nazanin Zaghair-Radcliffe in Iran have featured so far amongst others.

This isn’t just about parties and lockdown although that may be the straw that breaks the camel’s back. His track record is just unbelievably awful, he is and never has been competent enough to hold the amount of power he has.

jgw1 · 26/01/2022 11:09
Feel like we are really battling for the soul of country with this issue, this tweet sums up why I feel this issue really, really matters and I will not be told by Tories it is trivial:

twitter.com/DavidHenigUK/status/1486249277101953027
The reassuring thing is it worked so well when they tried it with Paterson.

Cornettoninja · 26/01/2022 11:09

@merrymouse, they absolutely do get it, they think delaying and minimising is enough to get them through this rocky patch and emerge the other side. They’ve done it before.

Don’t ever think it’s because they don’t understand, they do they just think that we don’t understand/appreciate why they’re the exception and are outraged that we don’t fully recognise that.

DuncinToffee · 26/01/2022 11:12

Itsgettingweird PMQs is at 12 and you can watch it on BBC parliament and iPlayer and Sky News

IpanemaPeaHen · 26/01/2022 11:13

Also he chased that power, wanted it more than anything. To have books written about himself. To be the next Churchill. For the kudos of being PM but certainly not to do anything worthwhile for the people who live in this country.
