Might make teen dd feel better, covid has ruined the taste of chocolate for her. Apparently its all now truly awful and all she can taste is the texture.

DoTheMerengue · 24/01/2022 19:51

Go for the M&S ones - they’re bigger and ultimately it’s size that’s matters.

OfstedOffred · 24/01/2022 19:56

Yanbu. There should be rules about the extent to which America can sell us vile poor quality food

Oh wait

Sorka · 24/01/2022 19:58

YANBU. Palm oil in everything. Only two chocolates I’ve found that don’t have palm oil are green & black brand and original aero - weirdly mint aero does have palm oil in it.

TetraTetris · 24/01/2022 20:04

Its also the sugar shell, they had a beautiful memory evoking smell from childhood....now gone 😭😭😭 I can smell normally, so it's not covid.

I used to buy Cadbury Dairy Milk occasionally in rage States. It is terrible now. Try Dove chocolate; it’s better quality.

Munchyseeds · 24/01/2022 20:26

I agree totally
Cadburys used to smell and taste lovely
Haven't purchased any for a long time
Too late for a change back now I fear

chitchatchatter · 24/01/2022 20:47

I just don’t buy it any more.

traintraveller · 24/01/2022 21:02

I had a pack last week, didnt notice that dramatic a difference

iwanttobeonleave · 24/01/2022 21:04

Horrible. Too much plastic and palm oil.

When someone finds an alternative without both of these be sure to let me know...

Nomoreusernames1244 · 24/01/2022 21:09

Yep. Cadburys (and green and blacks who are now a subsidiary) totally ruined. Mini eggs used to be my absolute favourite, haven’t had them for years now.

Best alternative I find is M&S. hotel Chocolat is nice, but has that “posh choc” taste.

ScruffGin · 24/01/2022 21:35

I used to love mini eggs, but now they're awful. Same with creme eggs Sad

StrawberrySquash · 24/01/2022 21:38

M&S do nice mini eggs. God-awful chicky choccy name, but good chocolate. Not the same though.
Also the unreliability of Cadbury's is so frustrating. Some bars are much waxier than others. YANBU.

KatherineofGaunt · 24/01/2022 21:40

Lindt mini eggs are the best. Although I appreciate they don't have that crunchy shell.

Wanderingowl · 24/01/2022 21:41

Aldi's Dairyfine mini-eggs are really nice. Cadbury ones have been gack for a few years now. I remember the Easter before Covid, being at an Easter activity with kids and happily munching a few of the Aldi mini eggs. Then picking up a Cadbury one and I struggled not to just spit it out. It was genuinely unpleasant in texture and taste.

SylviasMotherSaid · 24/01/2022 21:44

I really miss Terry’s chocolate products had a real motion for their Twilight bars the other week. Someone said the Irish Dairy Milk is still good but haven’t been able to track it down lately

balkanscot · 24/01/2022 21:45

YANBU. Mondelez have permanently ruined Roses for me. I refused to believe they are the same chocolates and stupidly kept buying them for the last few Christmases in a row. Nope, still tasted vile. 🤮

Oh, yes, and they have ruined all other Cadbury’s chocolates. Glass and a half of milk my arse. All Cadbury’s chocolate now taste of sticky, sweet, greasy bland gloop. 🤢

Just an observation: I have recently bought Lindt chocolate spread. Oh. My. Lord. It’s beautiful! ❤️ Never buying Nutella again. Lindt doesn’t contain any palm oil and it has got far more % of hazelnuts.

ginislife · 24/01/2022 22:04

A friend makes vegan chocolates and they are amazing !! Like chocolate used to be.

thegcatsmother · 24/01/2022 22:28

For milk chocolate, either Ritter Sport (the pale blue pack), or Milka.

GreenerWithTheScenery · 24/01/2022 22:44

I nicked some of DHs dairy milk out of the fridge earlier, had one square and hastily put the rest back. It tasted ‘slimy’. Ive not had a mini egg for a few years because they were so bad. They ruined snow balls as well.

Nicest thing I’ve found recently is the Daim rolo type things they sell in IKEA. Very moreish though.

JanuaryBluehoo · 24/01/2022 22:49

I'm absolutely fed up of the slime that is palm oil choc.

belimoo · 24/01/2022 22:52

YANBU. It's so annoying that I can't get the chocolate of my youth anymore. A massive loss and disappointment that they've ruined it all. I hardly ever bother with chocolate these days and I used to have such a sweet tooth. Feel a bit better knowing it's not just me mourning its loss though.

Bratnews · 24/01/2022 22:54

Tony’s Chocolonely is really nice, though they don’t do mini eggs, but as Cadbury’s avoidance it’s great!

Kite22 · 24/01/2022 22:58

YANBU.
I soooooooo miss gorgeous Cadbury Chocolate.
All Cadbury chocolate. It was lovely.
Such a shame.

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 24/01/2022 23:08

For milk chocolate, either Ritter Sport (the pale blue pack), or Milka.

Milka used to be amazing, especially the creamy stuff. Unfortunately, guess who now own it....

I heard that the Irish-made DM is still made to the old recipe (that they claim hasn't ever changed....). You can buy it on eBay - from some enterprising sellers in NI, so standard UK postage rates and no import charges.

It must have saved them an absolute fortune ruining the wonderful legacy they bought by switching the recipe to using rubbish ingredients - enough that it's worth their while gaslighting whole generations that it's unchanged and, presumably, counting on the younger ones never knowing any different.

I'm not suggesting that they've done anything actually illegal (would have been if I were in charge Grin), but by way of (sort of) parallel, I often think when you see some of these shady businesses - dodgy mechanics and tradesmen etc. - that run such a professional, labour-intensive, incredibly-organised set-up in scamming people and having to keep a permanent eye over their shoulder for the police (and Matt Allwright!) and being prepared at all times to do a moonlight flit.... wouldn't it just be a whole load easier and less stressful all around to put all of that effort into running it as a legitimate, honest, respectable business instead?!
