You are all BVU!!!! It’s JANUARY!!! Step away from the mini eggs until at least March, and then we can all have a good whinge that they’re not the same as when we were kids, but not before!!!!

You don't have to buy it if you don't like it, just search out the ones that you do like. I have never really eaten Cadbury much anyway. I generally like Rittersport bars and mainly just buy that, Amazon sell packs of 10 or 12 of various flavours as shops don't stock many. For a treat I buy Leonidas. Rittersport does have palm fat in it though so maybe not to everyones taste.

User764832 · 26/01/2022 05:11

Divine chocolate doesn't contain palm oil, it's available in Waitrose.

User764832 · 26/01/2022 05:17

Those cheap Cadbury Easter eggs are often only a pound so I'm not surprised they taste crap, people buy them for their DC and hope they don't notice. so YABU expecting it to be nice.

HarlanPepper · 26/01/2022 05:29

The Cadbury's Dark Milk doesn't have palm oil in it, and is nice. I like Tony's too (the standard milk chocolate with no other additions) but I agree with whoever said the shape of the bar is irritating. I also don't want to buy 200g at a time. Yorkies still taste the same to me, as do Milky Bars.

Bunnybunny1 · 26/01/2022 05:45

Aldi do large chocolate bars and they are beautiful! Absolutely creamy, melt in the mouth and delicious.

tackling · 26/01/2022 06:10

I sometimes cut the Tony bars up into tiny pieces to make it easier to just take some bits. And then eat it all in one day anyway.

pompomseverywhere · 26/01/2022 06:16

Try Vego bars. They are n Asda and Holland and Barrett. They have dreadful packaging and look like they'd be vile but I love them instead of whole nut.

Also on Amazon obviously
Egghead68 · 26/01/2022 06:37

They don’t call it dairy milk chocolate anymore, just dairy milk. I wonder if that’s because they have taken out most of the cocoa solids.

Supposedly some Cadbury products still have better quality chocolate in them. Food reviews uk on YouTube have done a video on this.

Nomoreusernames1244 · 26/01/2022 09:32

Cadbury's have said that the mini egg recipe hasn't changed

Ingredients for mini eggs from cadbury website. Palm oil and vegetable oils feature quite highly on the list. More palm than shea as well.

They may say they haven’t changed the recipe, but if the recipe includes “vegetable fat” and they don’t specify proportions, it’s highly likely they’ve substituted in palm oil for shea butter. Still “vegetable fat” so the recipe technically hasn’t changed…

*Sugar, MILK, cocoa butter, cocoa mass, dried skimmed MILK, dried whey (from MILK), vegetable fats (palm, shea), MILK fat, emulsifiers (E442, E476), modified maize and tapioca starch, maltodextrin, colours (anthocyanins, beetroot red, paprika extract, carotenes), flavourings.
CHOKING HAZARD: THIS PRODUCT IS NOT SUITABLE FOR CHILDREN UNDER 4.
OTHER INFORMATION

MILK CHOCOLATE: MILK SOLIDS 14% MINIMUM. COCOA SOLIDS 25% MINIMUM. CONTAINS VEGETABLE FATS IN ADDITION TO COCOA BUTTER*

TansySorrel · 26/01/2022 10:16

That doesn't tell you much about the proportions though, nor differences in the method
The percentages of the main ingredients are listed underneath the ingredients in the screenshot I posted (identical)
I ordered some Irish cadbury in the first lockdown after a similar thread to this and didn't notice any difference but I'm glad others are enjoying it

It's perfectly possible to keep the same 'ingredients' and the same proportions, but massively reduce the quality or efficiency of those ingredients.

Same as with many things that are ostensibly the same in how they're described: leather goods (are they tannery leather that will last you decades or brittle 'leather board'); petrol (is it proper high-octane or bulked out with ever increasing amounts of plant-stuffs); cotton (is it luxury Egyptian or scratchy, almost transparent stuff); computer processing chips (it says 'I7' but is it a powerful I7H or a weedy I7U); broadband (is it a dedicated provider that offers monitored QoS and cares for its customers or is it called something like "Speak Speak")....

Lots of things can legally bear the same description but be very, very different in practice.

@ginghamstarfish

I don't think it's Mondelez but we got a box of Ferrero Rocher at Christmas and it's still sitting there after we tried one each. Used to love them but vile now. I contacted the company and told them, asked if it was due to change in ingredients. They didn't respond to that but sent vouchers .., to buy more (won't be bothering ). Lidl choc is still good.
Now, DD gave me a box of these before Christmas and I ended up quietly throwing them away as they tasted funny. Best I can describe is 'out of date'. They were dry and claggy and didn't taste quite right.

Not had any since but now I've seen your post I'm going to assume they have buggered with those too.

Excited101 · 26/01/2022 14:38

Tony’s bar shapes are REALLY annoying. I pointed this out to them once but they didn’t seem to care...

Isn't that the idea though? To reiterate that profit is unfairly divided or something like that?
jessycake · 26/01/2022 15:47

I had some twirls today and they were lovely , just like I remember cadburys chocolate , but I find cadburys hit and miss

LovedayCL · 26/01/2022 18:18

I vaguely remember something like that but it irritates me even more. I buy chocolate to enjoy. I feel bad about so many things in life, I was basically born guilty. Enough, honestly. Charging more so they can pay fair wages etc is fine. But chocolate is my (guilty) pleasure so I’ll buy the one that tastes good and breaks into nice even pieces so I can eat my (guilty) feelings in my own way, Grin

Zotter · 26/01/2022 23:18

I think the Aldi chocolate tastes nicer than Cadburys but the Lidl single origin milk chocolate bars are even better.

Zotter · 26/01/2022 23:31

It’s these Lidl bars I like. My favourite affordable milk and dark chocolate. The Grenada milk chocolate bar is a little less sweet than the Aldi Choceur bar.

StepAwayFromGoogling · 26/01/2022 23:48

Aldi have their own chocolate factory so they aren't relying on anyone else to make chocolate for them, hence it tastes so good.

user1477391263 · 27/01/2022 04:22

Unfortunately it's a difficult choice here between refrigerated (ewwww) chocolate and a ready to drink chocolate if you leave it in the kitchen cupboard!

What you need in each house is a sort of mini chocolate refridgerating pod that maintains a temperature of 20 degrees or something.

Perfectlystill · 27/01/2022 05:25

Agree. Mini Eggs used to be amazing.

miltonj · 27/01/2022 05:38

Mondelez make milka which is still lovely. No palm oil either.

malificent7 · 27/01/2022 06:18

I always thought carob tasted like a sad substitute until i tasted ploughshares carob fridgecake...like I'd died and gone to heaven!
