Now mini eggs....they just don't even smell the same let alone taste the same!

Also I come from another country, so cadburys has never tasted like I remember it from childhood, because they make it differently everywhere out of whatever cheap shit they can find

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 25/01/2022 10:36

Hmm, interesting insights, OneTC - the plot and the sticky slimy goo thickens!

2Gen · 25/01/2022 10:44

@SylviasMotherSaid

I really miss Terry’s chocolate products had a real motion for their Twilight bars the other week. Someone said the Irish Dairy Milk is still good but haven’t been able to track it down lately
I'm in Ireland and my family do like a Cadbury's Caramel and in fairness, they are still very nice. They seem to be the same as they always were. I can't say about the other bars but the Creme Eggs've gone to shite.
UniBallEye · 25/01/2022 10:45

I am in my 50's and I remember as a child when chocolate had a 'snap' when you broke it. I really loved the slim little bars of dairy milk, if they were cold they'd almost shatter when you broke them.

Now it's all waxy and half melted no matter what you do with it.

I sometimes get a craving for childhood chocolate but no actual chocolate lives up to it, bit like most chocolate cake, imagining is better than reality.

I don't eat much chocolate at all now, and when I do I like Tonys, Hotel Chocolat (some flavours) and Aldi

I'm also very fond of Italian Baci but am afraid to check if they've been taken over too and infiltrated with the dreaded palm oil....

VeganVampire · 25/01/2022 10:47

Tony's chocolonely tastes virtuous, it doesn't taste nice and chocolatey.

LuaDipa · 25/01/2022 10:50

Yanbu. I still miss proper Creme Eggs. I can’t believe they had to piss about with Mini Eggs also.

KellyABC · 25/01/2022 11:34

Tony's Chocolonely is also often stuffed with things I don't want in my chocolate, like bits of pretzel.

belimoo · 25/01/2022 17:27

@WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll
I will report back and let you know! The chocolate has been marked as despatched and due to arrive on 31 Jan. I somehow can't imagine it tasting right with smooth edges rather than 90 degree angles but I am still hopeful!

To those saying buy something else, I know there is better chocolate out there and that I can just do that. I just yearn for a taste of my excited-by-chocolate childhood and unfortunately Tony C can't give me that.

Kite22 · 25/01/2022 18:29

Maybe it was just me, as I was a child then with sickly-biased/undemanding taste buds and relied on somebody to else to buy chocolate for me as a treat - but I disagree that Cadbury's has always been bad. It used to be a really delicious, special thing.

Not just you, and not looking back longingly at fond childhood memories either. Cadbury's chocolate was lovely up until some time in the last 10 years, maybe even more recently.
Oh, and I'm mid 50s

Tal45 · 25/01/2022 18:41

Noooo not mini eggs too - is nothing sacred?

I was never a dark chocolate fan but have a very bad chocolate/sugar habit and in the name of trying to reduce sugar I've started buying Montezuma's absolute black chocolate with orange/mint (only sold in limited places so tend to get them online). It's too much for me as is so I melt it and make chocolate crispies with it (with sugar free cornflakes/rice puffs which aren't as easy to find as you'd imagine). I can then main line them without any concern for type 2 diabetes which I'm very aware could be looming large.

Cherrysoup · 25/01/2022 18:48

It’s definitely changed, I used to like Cadbury but now it’s greasy shit (IMO) and overly sweet/sickly.

Tal45 · 25/01/2022 18:52

I'm mid 40's and there's no question that Cadbury's has been ruined since it was bought by fucking Kraft (now Mondelez).

Sleepyquest · 25/01/2022 18:54

I had a creme egg the other day and it tasted awful

Zotter · 25/01/2022 18:54

You are most definitely not being unreasonable. Cadbury’s is awful now. Even galaxy is now grim, was so sweet when tried the other week.

Willow4987 · 25/01/2022 18:58

Agreed. Mini eggs are horrid now. I went off them at least 5 years ago as the shell tastes weird and the chocolate has a weird texture. M&S version is so much better

AuntyFungal · 25/01/2022 19:04

Exactly UniBallEye. No crack. Easter eggs, you used to be able to break in half or into bits. Now, they all just bend and smoosh.

& it’s all so sweet. No choc taste, just overwhelming sweetness.

I recommend Montezuma’s giant buttons.

AuntMasha · 25/01/2022 19:12

I can’t eat American chocolate, full stop — it has horrific amounts of sugar. Same with Ben and Jerry’s ice cream, so sickly sweet. I want to taste the actual chocolate, not go into a hyperglycaemic coma thank you.

FourChimneys · 25/01/2022 19:15

I refuse to eat any chocolate with palm oil.

I remember the long ago days when all chocolate tasted good.

SpinningTheSeedsOfLove · 25/01/2022 19:15

@KellyABC

As I was reading that sentence, I really was tensing up for the last word. Pretzel was a blessed relief.
TakemedowntoPotatoCity · 25/01/2022 19:18

I remember having those little Dairy Milk miniatures as a kid, usually around Christmas. If only I could taste them again.

FoodieToo · 25/01/2022 19:53

It's still the same in Ireland. I eat enough of it to declare myself and expert . For about a year maybe 2 years ago we ended up with strange, greasy tasting stuff and I feared it was the end !!!!

But thankfully it changed back again.

However, I would probably weigh less had it remained awful.......

Exhausteddog · 25/01/2022 19:56

I bought some the other day. I felt like they tasted like cheap unbranded chocolate although I still stuffed my face Blush
Nowhere near as nice as they used to be.

TansySorrel · 25/01/2022 20:24

The ingredients of UK and Irish Cadbury stated on the relevant websites are identical as far as I can see.

fuckfuckfuck2021 · 25/01/2022 20:57

You can buy Australian cadburys chocolate over here and it has no palm oil! I've found a few different ones in B&M so much nicer than our U.K. Cadbury chocolate.
