To think life is too short to slice onions

Spaghetti for dinner. DH bought whole onions. Sob.

AIBU to think ready made sliced onions are a marvellous invention? And never buy whole onions again?

OP posts:
Comedycook · 22/01/2022 17:03

Yabu...it takes seconds

RagzRebooted · 22/01/2022 17:04

Invest in a decent knife.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/01/2022 17:04

You could say similar for any ingredient.

But generally... lifes too short for many things. Unfortunately they need doing.

Momicrone · 22/01/2022 17:05

I've never bought them but why not? I might try some

BennysBingoBonanza · 22/01/2022 17:05

Never heard of presliced onions before- sounds ridiculous.

BritWifeInUSA · 22/01/2022 17:05

With the right knife it takes less time than it does to post on here about it. And probably the same amount of time as it takes to open a bag of sliced onions.

Spaghettio · 22/01/2022 17:05

I pre-chop (using the food processor) onions and freeze them. So much easier and means no crying too!

Scotstar · 22/01/2022 17:06

I actively seek out sliced onions on my online shop for this reason

FionnulaTheCooler · 22/01/2022 17:06

I buy the bags of pre diced frozen onions for the mornings I'm rushing about trying to get ready for work and get something on in the slow cooker for dinner before I go out. Saves so much time.

LeQuern · 22/01/2022 17:07

Frozen are a good store cupboard ingredient. Or whack ‘em in a food processor - chopped in seconds.

Lockheart · 22/01/2022 17:07

Ready-sliced vegetables are terrible value when compared to buying whole. And they further generate plastic waste when whole vegetables don't need bags or tubs.

ShinyMe · 22/01/2022 17:08

Why don't you have the time to cut onions, but you do have the time to cook spaghetti?

LeifSan · 22/01/2022 17:08

Jesus it takes a minute!

DartmoorChef · 22/01/2022 17:08

I buy bags of frozen chopped onion. So much handier to grab from the freezer and add to dishes when needed.

goingtotown · 22/01/2022 17:08

Plastic bag of sliced onions no thanks.

Octomore · 22/01/2022 17:09

Whole onions come in zero packaging except their own skins. Presliced onions come in plastic packaging.

On that basis, they might be convenient but they're not really sustainable, are they?

purplemunkey · 22/01/2022 17:10

The waste of the packaging would bother me. It only takes seconds to chop an onion, surely?

LondonQueen · 22/01/2022 17:11

I buy everything ready-choppedGrin

RosesAndHellebores · 22/01/2022 17:12

When I used to cook for a charity - 80 portions of cottage pie or turkey casserole, chopped onions were very welcome. Happy to slice 2 onions for the family and quite like doing it. Chopping 2 or 3 bags was heavy on the eyes.

Duchess379 · 22/01/2022 17:13

I buy frozen chopped onions. My eyes literally close up when a fresh onion is being chopped in my kitchen!

Momicrone · 22/01/2022 17:14

Does pre- grated cheese offend people as much

TheWeeDonkey · 22/01/2022 17:15

@LondonQueen

I buy everything ready-choppedGrin
Haha me too!

I agree life is way too short

codexa · 22/01/2022 17:15

Slicing a few onions will save the planet OP. You have been warned!

Ready chopped, frozen, onion powder all used by me. Life is too short for crying eyes and smelly fingers and chopping boards anymore.

Chishnfips · 22/01/2022 17:16

4 times the price and wrapped in plastic. Hardly takes that much effort for the amount impact it has.

Nsky · 22/01/2022 17:17

Buy chopped onion or use a proceessor
