To be worried about war

Ciaram55 · 21/01/2022 11:33

The stand off between Russia and the west over Ukraine. I can't see either side backing down. I'm just so worried now. I know that worrying doesn't help but it seems to be a very tense time right now.

I feel the same, yet most of the press are just ignoring it.

Witchymcwitch · 21/01/2022 11:43

Same here. Can’t understand why it’s not headline news?!
Surely more significant than bloody partying toffs!

Mercurial123 · 21/01/2022 11:44

Not sure where you are getting your news. Sky news was reporting it as was The Guardian and I think The Observer.

Mercurial123 · 21/01/2022 11:45

Also front page of today's Independent.

Ciaram55 · 21/01/2022 14:08

It's very worrying isn't it.

Watching Joe Biden is more scary

truthfullylying · 21/01/2022 14:12

Yanbu

CluckingFunts · 21/01/2022 14:12

Yanbu, very concerning

MarshaBradyo · 21/01/2022 14:14

Yanbu, all the scrabbling over parties etc is embarrassing when there’s bigger stuff going on

Lockedoorsopen · 21/01/2022 14:14

Same here, it feels like China and Russia have come out of no where and every one is like ...'whats for dinner tonight then'

I have been watching whats been going on with China, Taiwan and US and now Russia doing this to the Ukraine and U.K getting involved and it is making me wonder if this is the start of WW3

HacerSonarSusPasos · 21/01/2022 14:16

@DrManhattan

Oh, you would have felt more at ease with Trump behind the wheel on this one? Do tell
DrManhattan · 21/01/2022 14:20

@HacerSonarSusPasos

What's Trump got to do with it?

Blinkingbatshit · 21/01/2022 14:20

Yes, I’m with you. The couple of people I’ve mentioned it to have been like “oh come on, we’re just coming out of a pandemic, enjoy yourself”….they seem to be able to blindly ignore that Putin has become more and more despotic and is amassing troops on the edge of a country who will turn to us for help (& we should give it). It has the potential to make the pandemic seem like a small blip by comparison🙈. And whilst I hate Boris and think he should go we should probably not start a leadership contest till we’ve seen what the next few weeks & months bring😖

Chely · 21/01/2022 14:21

War is unlikely to happen as it has in the past. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

Porcupineintherough · 21/01/2022 14:23

If I was Ukrainian I'd be shitting myself honestly. Living in the UK, not so much.

I agree regarding booting Boris, we are basically standing toe to toe with Russia at the moment we need settled government - for now. But it does make me wonder why the party stuff came out now just when when Russia was gearing up.

Can we not turn this in to a Trump and Biden thread, I have no love for either but they are irrelevant really

Blinkingbatshit · 21/01/2022 14:28

Hmmmm…..I think the complacency of ‘it won’t arrive on our doorstep” may be misplaced….I certainly hope not, but it would be very 🙉🙈🙊 not to realise there is a possibility it will. But that’s how people behave these days isn’t it? The vast majority refuse to open their eyes to a potential issue till it’s too late🙄

WhiteJellycat · 21/01/2022 14:30

It is worrying. But we have been in these situations before. Honestly there is so much scary shit going in the world. I'm avoiding the news.

Blinkingbatshit · 21/01/2022 14:31

A large majority of this Country seem to operate their threat level by whether they can still get deliveroo and Netflix…it would be funny if there wasn’t some truth in it!

Cheekypeach · 21/01/2022 14:32

I have to be honest and say the last 5 years has left me numb to even shocking world events. I try to avoid the news now, there’s nothing I can do to influence it & I want to enjoy life in the meantime.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/01/2022 14:34

It's not war that's scary. Honestly, I've lived through about 5 WW3s.

What is scary is the whole world's reliance on Russia, the ME and China. Everything comes from there. Oil, gas, goods, money. It makes us beholden to, and answerable to them and giant corporations, far more than our own useless government. We should be focused on renewables and buying British to reduce our reliance on insane despots like Putin and Bezos. But we don't.

MrsTerryPratchett · 21/01/2022 14:35

The revolution will be televised.
Blinkingbatshit · 21/01/2022 14:37

Yep - anyone who say ‘how will it affect me’? You know that gas that this Country relies on?…..ummmm…with the cost of electricity due to skyrocket already…well, just think about it.

AuntMasha · 21/01/2022 14:37

I may turn out to be very wrong on this occasion, but Putin does like to do this from time to time to get the world’s attention and as a way of displaying Russian military power. Though Russia spends a fair bit more than the US on their military, the country is barely in a good economic position to fund a war and faces many economic challenges post Covid. I’m desperately hoping this latest sabre-rattling exercise by Russia is just that.

Blinkingbatshit · 21/01/2022 14:38

I’ll only be able to watch if it’s on terrestrial @MrsTerryPratchett - we haven’t managed to join the on demand revolution yet🤣🤣
