To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

My Other Profile -
It’s actually happening - look up the Health and Well-being census in Scotland being sent out to school kids. ( except those in the Councils that have refused -8 out of the 32 councils iirc.)
The SNP are terrifying IMO, so I would definitely vote for anyone with a chance of beating them.

BewareTheLibrarians · 19/01/2022 09:05

@Blessex spiralling austerity, child poverty, violence against women and girls, slashing of social care and community services and destruction of the nhs (all of which have real life negative effects on women and children) vs some incredibly bad takes that a few Labour members have that may never become policy. That’s not a balanced viewpoint.

Your first point was interesting though, about cervixes, because whether you like it or not women who’ve transitioned to male will still have cervixes. I would like to think that even the most hardened anti-trans wonk would agree that women need medical care regardless of how they identify.

Hoppinggreen · 19/01/2022 09:05

@CloudPop

My money is on him surviving this. We'll still be enjoying his leadership this time next year. He's waited his whole life for this, no way is he going to give it up.
I’m not sure he ever really wanted to be PM really. He wanted the prestige and power and money he will earn afterwards but I doubt he wanted an actual real grown up job that involved any hard work. I expect it was sold to him as a few years of old boys clubs and opening the odd factory followed by the rest of his life raking in millions. He looks like a man who thought he was going 5 star AI in The Caribbean but has found himself on an 18-30 holiday in Benidorm .

Hard to enjoy his downfall when I’m sitting here triple jabbed, my children are enjoying all normal activities and life at school and the furlough scheme was an enormous help to me

So no…. I’m sitting here not enjoying his downfall

SeaWitchly · 19/01/2022 09:07

I personally believe Boris has agreed to be the 'dead cat' for the Tories and will be rewarded handsomely for his 'humiliation'.

Otherwise I second this -

I hope that every single person who voted Tory in the last election takes a good, hard look at themselves. YOU allowed this to happen. YOU have made this country into a laughing stock. How anyone could see even a two minute interview from Mr Johnston on TV and think 'there is a man I can give my vote to' is beyond me.

MimiDaisy11 · 19/01/2022 09:07

@Yumperwumpee

Sadly I will have to vote Tory at the next election despite never voting for them before because every other party is intent in throwing women and girls under a bus. Until Labour and the Lib Dens get their act together on gender ideology I will be forced to vote Tory. It’s a sad state of affairs

I am gender critical, but for pete's sake - there is a bigger picture here.

I agree unfortunately for some the tories could cut all rights and funds to issues most effecting women but because they’re not (perceived) as “woke” as labour on definitions they’ll keep getting votes.

Here we go again... 🙄
Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 19/01/2022 09:08

Labour was formed by male working classes.

The origins of the Labour Party go back to 1900, when the TUC passed a resolution to establish the Labour Representation Committee. The resolution was seconded by Margaret Bondfield, the only woman delegate at the meeting.

Remind me. Was the Tory party created by female unicorns? or was it perhaps the male ruling classes?

Vargas · 19/01/2022 09:09

I loathe him, always have. But I'm not particularly enjoying his downfall as there is no obviously decent replacement. I do hope that once he's gone he's gone forever and we never see him in politics again.

ilovesooty · 19/01/2022 09:10

I take no joy in Johnson's situation. He's reprehensible and deserves anything he gets but I'm sad to see the damage he's done and the likelihood of him being replaced by someone tainted by association with him.

Wagared · 19/01/2022 09:10

Really wish I could enjoy it but it is all just so depressing. We can laugh at them but in reality he doesn't give a flying shit. They're all laughing at us. We're the idiots me we can't do naff all about it.

That happened in spite of him not because of him
Alexandra2001 · 19/01/2022 09:12
@DeeCeeCherry did you know there was a Labour female MP who was too scared to go to the Labour Party Conference. Did you see the strong female fringe events at the Conservative Party Conference? I am not naive enough to think it is about one individual in a party. It is about party policy. Labour was formed by male working classes. And look at the party. Can’t even muster up a female leader. So whilst on the surface things may look one way. If you scratch a bit deeper…
Lol

So you support a party that voted in a PM with 7 kids from 5 women (and doesn't support them, some male roll model) had the Police round after screams were heard from his flat... who has slashed spending on womens refuges, needed a footie player to get them to feed children in a pandemic, who taxed women with a panic room, removed all SureStart centres.... great!

My DD has worked with Trans people, most don't even go out side without being at risk of being beaten half to death (many have been) until 2019, it was considered a MH issue... as Starmer also said "we need a mature debate on the issues..."

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 09:13

'Hard to enjoy his downfall when I’m sitting here triple jabbed, my children are enjoying all normal activities and life at school and the furlough scheme was an enormous help to me'

Yes and fast economic growth, not caving like Sturgeon and drakeford did over Christmas etc etc But nevernind that, Cummings with his axe to grind wants him out so the ridiculous media will continue to be manipulated by him.

Notonthestairs · 19/01/2022 09:14

"Exactly. He was responding to Rigby's accusations that people had told him it was a party."

He shouldn't have needed warning. It should have been obvious from the moment he joined the party and seen the trestle tables of BYOB.

Think how different this story would have been if he'd gone out and said "sorry we can't be doing this whilst we are telling the public they can only meet one other person."

Party pooper Johnson would have been unassailable.

This mess is of his own making.

merrymouse · 19/01/2022 09:14

'IMO people are taking “no-one warned me” wrongly.'

Maybe, but his belief that he shouldn’t have needed to be told that the party was against the rules is also absurd.

I also think that whether or not you believe Cummings, it’s less believable that nobody mentioned this to him, given that so many of his staff were planning to attend.

ilovesooty · 19/01/2022 09:15

@JackieWeaverHandforthCouncil

The ‘at least he knows what a woman is!’ types are nuts. When asked what misogyny was, Raab believed it also applied to the abuse of men. The Tories also didn’t want to label misogyny as a hate crime but as long as any of them are openly anti-trans some people on here will vote themselves into poverty and international embarrassment to support them. Bonkers.
Agreed.
bedington · 19/01/2022 09:15

No...this situation is not good. We have Dominic Cummings manipulating a situation for his own revengeful ends.

AuntyBumBum · 19/01/2022 09:15

I also think we are being played by Cummings here and it’s because ultimately he wants a more Brexity Brexit and I think Johnson isn’t Brexit enough. I think anyone that still supports Remain being pleased about Boris going is foolish.

I'm very much an EU supporter, and it's quite clear to me that we will need to return to the fold. But in the meantime I'm afraid the country needs to suffer the fate which it has freely chosen. The best lesson for why brexit is not a good idea is brexit itself. And I think we haven't even properly begun that yet. Grin

Hospedia · 19/01/2022 09:15

He's going, I think its a matter of when rather than if. The Conservatives have a long tradition if stabbing their leader in the back as soon as they're no longer useful and Johnson was barely useful to begin with, he was only there to fulfil the "I'm your jolly mate Bozza, I'd be a right laugh down the pub wouldn't I?" narrative that almost made them seem likeable/relatable alongside his oven ready microwave deal to get Brexit done.

Cummings is certainly feeling very happy that all he has to do is write a tweet / blog post.
merrymouse · 19/01/2022 09:17

Johnson’s understanding appears to have been ‘Do what the hell you like as long as you can claim it’s tenuously related to work’.

Not surprising since that also seems to be how he conducts his affairs.

Blessex · 19/01/2022 09:18

@Yumperwumpee we live in a democracy. You vote on issues that upset you. I vote on those that upset me. Unless you want my vote as well?

Exhausteddog · 19/01/2022 09:18

I would enjoy it if I thought that there was a prospect of an obvious improvement coming soon.
FWIW I think hes a lying shit and he should resign ....but all the potential contenders for next pm are pretty awful as well. It's extremely depressing.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 09:19

He must be pissing himself laughing.
