To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

@Toanewstart22

Hard to enjoy his downfall when I’m sitting here triple jabbed, my children are enjoying all normal activities and life at school and the furlough scheme was an enormous help to me

So no…. I’m sitting here not enjoying his downfall

Johnson did not invent or roll out the vaccine. That first is due to scientists, the second to civil servants and the NHS. So sick of this line being trotted out as though Johnson was single handedly responsible. Furlough was not paid out of his pocket, it is public money that we will all be paying back, and the very concept has its roots in socialism. I have an idea that it was Labour's suggestion initially, but I would have to check as I may be wrong.

I will celebrate him going, even though he will be replaced with someone almost as odious. He is an amoral, lying con artist who should have never been allowed anywhere near public office.

superplumb · 19/01/2022 09:20

@Blessex

Sadly I will have to vote Tory at the next election despite never voting for them before because every other party is intent in throwing women and girls under a bus. Until Labour and the Lib Dens get their act together on gender ideology I will be forced to vote Tory. It’s a sad state of affairs.
Ridiculous!! There is more to other parties than this. Unless you're ok with boris being racist and homophobic. Pillar boxes referring to muslim women, and bum boys referring to gay men....and you think boris cares about womens rights? Ha yeah ok then
Notonthestairs · 19/01/2022 09:20

It's a mistake to suggest it's just Cummings - more then one person has said he was warned about the optics.
Johnson was always going to be vulnerable when higher powers (Murdoch etc) decided they were done with him.
And it will be the same for any future leaders. I don't think we know the half of it.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 09:20

'Johnson did not invent or roll out the vaccine. That first is due to scientists, the second to civil servants and the NHS. So sick of this line being trotted out as though Johnson was single handedly responsible. Furlough was not paid out of his pocket'

All government led. Do you think Sunak just cracked on with furlough all by himself, same with vaccine procurement?!

MyOtherProfile · 19/01/2022 09:21

@Anotherhill I'm stunned that you think a census comes even close to what these people have done. Priorities?

Pat123dev · 19/01/2022 09:21

Definitely not enjoyment.....there have been huge mistakes made.

Its really something the country could do with out.

BewareTheLibrarians · 19/01/2022 09:21

As much as I can understand people wanting to blame Cummings for everything, he wouldn’t be able to manipulate anything if we’d had an upstanding, moral prime minister who hadn’t constantly fucked up and acted so dismissively of the population who were following the rules.

If Johnson/the government hadn’t done anything wrong, there wouldn’t be anything to manipulate. But there is plenty. Would you rather he hid it?

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 09:21

'It's a mistake to suggest it's just Cummings - more then one person has said he was warned about the optics.'

'Has said'. Very damning 🙄

superplumb · 19/01/2022 09:21

Yes to the op. I'm very much enjoying see him squirm and I hope he sods off. Problem is, what new slime ball will we get instead

wanttomarryamillionaire · 19/01/2022 09:23

What don't get is how during the first lockdown Dominic Cummings was called a liar blah blah blah yet all of a sudden now everything he says is gospel? Don't get me wrong I think it's time for Boris to go but the sheer hypocrisy of it all astounds me.

Hortensia16 · 19/01/2022 09:23

I am no fan of Johnson but I'm not enjoying this at all.

I agree with Mellongoose -

It's a massive distraction at a time when the country needs stability. It is no good for anyone. But, of course, Dominic Cummings, the master strategist knows this.

Namechange466 · 19/01/2022 09:23

I get your point OP - it’s no good for the country as a whole but a bit of an “I told you so”

That said I actually think he will manage to worm his way out of this and stay

I’m also terrified of who will succeed him if he does go

so for me the nervousness is still outweighing the smug feeling

wanttomarryamillionaire · 19/01/2022 09:24

@DaisyTheUnicorn

There's another thread asking if Tory voters would still vote Tory. Of course they will 🙄
Whats the viable alternative? Labour are a farce as well.
SueSaid · 19/01/2022 09:24

'If Johnson/the government hadn’t done anything wrong, there wouldn’t be anything to manipulate. But there is plenty. Would you rather he hid it?'

Hid what? Work colleagues gathering in work areas? I couldn't care less tbh.

If we found he was having house parties and it was all secret i'd be annoyed but like Labiur having takeaways and booze at work this is no different.

Chasingaftermidnight · 19/01/2022 09:24

I think he’ll survive it. I’ve thought ‘this has to be the end of him’ so many times but he’s always survived. He’s got no shame - he brazens it out.

Sheabutterisdelish · 19/01/2022 09:24

Not enjoying it, just so sad at the state of our country. He's behaved appallingly though - what a mess

Zonder · 19/01/2022 09:24

Also @Anotherhill I just looked it up and the sexual relationship questions are for the end of secondary. Not quite as presented.

Blessex · 19/01/2022 09:25

@BewareTheLibrarians you know what. I have thought about this and yes I think it is more important we make it clear to women that they need cervical smears and call to women to get them than the hypothetical hurt feelings of a few trans men. You know 51% of the population - when the word woman was removed from cervical smear advertising in Scotland the uptake went down 20%. Language is important. Especially to some minority groups.

GrendelsGrandma · 19/01/2022 09:27

Ok I'm persuaded that I want him to face a vote, win it and stumble on for another year or so, worsening the Tories' electoral prospects further.

OP posts:
Yumperwumpee · 19/01/2022 09:27

You vote on issues that upset you. I vote on those that upset me.

Well sorry that the misogyny of the tory party doesn't also upset you then.

Cornettoninja · 19/01/2022 09:27

And it will be the same for any future leaders. I don't think we know the half of it

I think there’s a lot of truth in that.

Personally I feel our choices are bad or awful when it comes to the political pool. There are parties that are more likely to work to change the system and level the playing field but it’s an elite club full of one particular subsection of society where any outsiders have to conform to their rules. Politics is rotten at its core and will take a revolutionary politician to change anything and I don’t really see anyone viable waiting in the wings.

In the meantime I will enjoy a moment of schadenfraude.

ElvisPresleyHadABaby · 19/01/2022 09:28

@Alexandra2001We just need "But imagine if Corbyn..." now

scooterbear · 19/01/2022 09:28

There is a certain amount if grim enjoyment in it. But I've got a horrible feeling he might still wriggle out of it.

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 09:30

@JaniieJones

My post was in response to a pp who seemed to think that Johnson is the one to be thanked for the vaccine etc. Johnson would have to sign everything off, but he would not have been the one to develop and bring the schemes to fruition, that was all down to the hard work of others in the government, civil service and NHS. Johnson was not vital to any of it.
RBKB · 19/01/2022 09:30

YANU. Mind you, he'll be replaced by a competent tory and that could be worse....waves bye bye to the NHS.....
