To be really enjoying Boris Johnson's downfall?

I know he'll be replaced by someone equally awful and I know he's not quite gone yet, but I can't remember when I felt uplifted about politics and the ejection of this national embarrassment is warming my cockles. Anyone else feel the same?

 1. There were no parties.
2.All parties followed guidelines.
 1. I am furious etc.
 2. I take my wife and child to all workplace meetings (and they ate the cheese and drank the wine).
 3. Nobody told me it was a party.

All against the backdrop of 150,000 deaths, the management of care homes, defending Cummings, the Hancock affair, VIP fast lane ££££ contracts for Conservative friends and families etc etc.

I think he'll survive. Maybe they'll get 54 letters but then they have to put their money where their mouth is and vote (is it 50% on a no confidence vote?).
But we will see.

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 09:35

The attempts to defend Johnson are almost as delicious as watching his downfall. The likes of Janiie can post away to their heart's content, but that does change the fact that millions of us will cheer when he gets the boot.

Although he still might survive. Like a cockroach in a nuclear war.🪳🪳🪳

@DropYourSword

He's not gone until he's gone!
It's irritating the living shite out of me! The lying tripehound should never have gained the position in the first place (will all that was already known about his conduct), he's utterly and completely inept and acts purely out of self-interest.

That his current defence is "Nobody told me my own rules applied to me and my staff" defies belief.

I'm not enjoying it, because it gives me the fucking RAGE.

Blessex · 19/01/2022 09:35

@Yumperwumpee it does upset me. But as I have said multiple times I will vote for the least bad. Just sad that Labour STILL doesn’t understand why it keeps losing elections.

PearPickingPorky · 19/01/2022 09:36

My DD has worked with Trans people, most don't even go out side without being at risk of being beaten half to death (many have been) until 2019

WTF Confused

Are you talking about the wrong country? Because this doesn't happen in the UK. I don't think it's ever happened in the UK, in fact. There have been a handful of murders of trans people in the last decade and I don't think any of them were attacks in the street because they were trans.

Who do you think will take his place?
OvertheRainbow2U · 19/01/2022 09:38

it's not over until the fat lady sings - and then, there will be another one waiting in the wings.....

PearPickingPorky · 19/01/2022 09:39

Anyway, I hope he goes, even though the person he'll be replaced by is crap too. Johnson is a whole new level of awful, and he doesn't care. He has no sense of public service whatsoever. I at least want someone who has some respect for the office, and the country. If that's Raab, Sunak, Patel, Truss, whomever for a while then I truly think it will be less-bad, though still bad. But at least it sends a message that the outright lies are not allowed.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 19/01/2022 09:39

Whilst it is possible to have a laugh at him, no I’m joy enjoying it. It’s all to awful to enjoy. These parties going on when people were suffering so much. Just shocking and saddening tbh.

Florianus · 19/01/2022 09:40

@tara66

'' Nobody warned me a party at No.10 would be against the rules'' - he is saying today . Surely he said it himself at those 5.00 p.m. TV Covid broadcast he made?
He didn't say 'party' so don't put it in quotes as if he did.
Yumperwumpee · 19/01/2022 09:42

Just sad that Labour STILL doesn’t understand why it keeps losing elections.

I really don't think the trans issue is why Labour lost the 2019 election.

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 09:42

Who do you think will take his place?

Someone almost as odious I expect. Sunak? Gove? Truss?

I am not under the mistaken impression that anything will change, but Johnson really needs to go.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 09:42

'The likes of Janiie can post away to their heart's content, but that does change the fact that millions of us will cheer when he gets the boot.'

I'm sure you will cheer but you have been played by Cummings and a biased media. Maybe try and think for yourself.

There's been errors but he has got a lot right. Coming out of the pandemic we need stability not this constant hysteria driven by Paul Brand & Co.

If Hunt or Gove is PM in a months time great! Confused

55Jumbo · 19/01/2022 09:43

@mellongoose

It's a massive distraction at a time when the country needs stability. It is no good for anyone. But, of course, Dominic Cummings, the master strategist knows this.

I agree with this. I don't like Johnson but quite honestly there is nobody I DO like, and I'd much rather the devil we know atm.

Alcoh · 19/01/2022 09:43

@PearPickingPorky indeed! There have been zero trans deaths in the U.K. in the last 3 years. Compare that to the number of women killed on the streets. But women still go outside. All hysterical nonsense. People are waking up to it.

But but but

Johnson brought Cummings in in the first place, and pretty much let him run the show for a while. Was it a good idea to appoint Cummings in the first place? How can you think Johnson is competent if he appointed a scheming arch-manipulator?

Anything that has been got right in the pandemic has been in spite of Johnson, not because of him. He wavered, released people straight into care homes, handed out PPE contracts without due diligence, etc etc.

The vaccination programme is testament to the dedication of NHS workers, something the Tories are in the process of attacking.

BewareTheLibrarians · 19/01/2022 09:49
@BewareTheLibrarians you know what. I have thought about this and yes I think it is more important we make it clear to women that they need cervical smears and call to women to get them than the hypothetical hurt feelings of a few trans men. You know 51% of the population - when the word woman was removed from cervical smear advertising in Scotland the uptake went down 20%. Language is important. Especially to some minority groups.
Which year are you referring to?

Uptake of cervical screening in Scotland has declined in recent years. In 20/21, uptake amongst those eligible was 69.3%, compared to 71.2% the previous year and 73.1% attending in 2018/19.

MarshaBradyo · 19/01/2022 09:50

I am not under the mistaken impression that anything will change, but Johnson really needs to go.

It concerns me how much we’re being played by Cummings and co and what we’ll get next is a cause of regret.

Hopefully it won’t be too bad in reality. But the party has a strong pull to the right in some quarters.

As a country we tend to vote centrally so it’s one way to shift without doing it through an election

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 09:54

I think the Tories are already moving to the right with Patel's current bill, Marsha?

BewareTheLibrarians · 19/01/2022 09:54

@MarshaBradyo @JaniieJones I did ask upthread but it hasn’t been answered - how is everyone being “played” by Cummings? If there was no corruption to be exposed, he wouldn’t be able to expose any. He’s exposing the corruption, not causing it (in this very limited and specific situation - there’s plenty of other corruption he has directly caused!)

merrymouse · 19/01/2022 09:56

There's been errors but he has got a lot right.

The best place for this kind of delusion is the relationships board.

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 09:57

'Johnson brought Cummings in in the first place, and pretty much let him run the show for a while. Was it a good idea to appoint Cummings in the first place? How can you think Johnson is competent if he appointed a scheming arch-manipulator?'

Yes clearly it was an error to trust him and give him such a position of power. I don't dispute errors have been made.

'Anything that has been got right in the pandemic has been in spite of Johnson, not because of him. He wavered, released people straight into care homes, handed out PPE contracts without due diligence, etc etc.'

Instructed hospitals discharge people into care homes under the advice of the experts. Clinicians discharged those fit enough as hospitals were deemed to be high risk areas. Care homes should have used strict infection prevention and control measures.

In a national emergency I could not care less that ppe contracts were handed out without due diligence, corners had to be cut and good that they were. Ppe didn't ever run out.

Bitbloweyoutthere · 19/01/2022 09:58

I have resigned myself to the fact there will be a tory government in charge for probably the rest of my life, bar a few anomalies. I live in a deprived area where those same people screwed by the tories still vote for them and blame Labour for all their ills. I really can't see what it will take for people to stop voting the buggers in.

I don't think this will be enough for Boris to go though. And if we have to have a tory government, I at least want one with a more credible leader.

ClaudineClare · 19/01/2022 10:00

@JaniieJones OK, perhaps you could explain why we are being "played" and what the end game is?

SueSaid · 19/01/2022 10:00

'how is everyone being “played” by Cummings? If there was no corruption to be exposed, he wouldn’t be able to expose any. He’s exposing the corruption, not causing it'

Workcolleagues at work having takeaways and drinking was allowed. Labour also did it but shh don't mention that, it is inconvenient and whataboutery you see.
