I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

I've used to have one when I was in my mid 20s. Ive never driven so it helped a lot

AllKindsOfWrong · 13/01/2022 14:07

@FaoinDrualus. I had a triple wheeled one when I lived in a fourth floor flat with no lift. I didn't find it any easier than a normal 2 wheeled one to be honest. You still have to lift it up the step

ChampagneLassie · 13/01/2022 14:10

Hey also hypermobile and have to be careful about carrying etc. I used to use one from my early 20s onwards when I shopped in local market / small shops. Now I get big shop delivered and tend to cycle so have basket on bike for smaller shops. But yeah just get a trolley. Food shopping is hardly a fashion parade

TeaAndStrumpets · 13/01/2022 14:11

I bought similar to the Reisenthal one for DD, one with a coolbag compartment. It was very pricy (German made and built like a tank) but lasted for years. She loved it but now her DS has nicked it for uni.

scaredsadandstuck · 13/01/2022 14:11

Look at his face! He wants you to buy him!

It's only embarrassing if you act embarrassed by it.

ParadiseLaundry · 13/01/2022 14:15

Sorry haven't RTFT so apologies if it's already been mentioned but if you're embarrassed (not that you should be) could you not just get a normal, small suitcase and use that? I sometimes used to do that when I went to the supermarket, didn't drive and lived along when I was younger.

BliainNua · 13/01/2022 14:16

my mum is 60 and even she said she wouldn’t have one, she uses suitcase maybe try that instead?
I think it'd look more weird putting your shopping into a suitcase rather than a shopping trolley Confused

ImpossibleGirl · 13/01/2022 14:17

Definitely get one! Have had various iterations of them since my late 20s.

I found my two wheeler can still get quite heavy dragging it home when fully loaded, which pulls at elbows/sideways on spine. Eyeing off a four wheeler now that they have funkier colours / patterns.

Only for the second when you're putting it in, the rest of the time you look like you might be hopping on a plane to somewhere exotic WinkGrin

Have seen wheeled carry on suitcase used possibly to imply nonchanantly I'm walking to a pick up point for my flight.

Zilla1 · 13/01/2022 14:21

sorry, cross posted.

Newnormal99 · 13/01/2022 14:22

@Xmasgetaway

I’m 40 and I got one recently with flamingos on it. I drive, but I try to walk when I can and I can do a shop/take books to the library etc without putting strain on my back.

No one bats an eyelid, but I’m not embarrassed and hiding away with it.

I own walking with the shopping trolley! 😂

I have that one too!
TopTabby · 13/01/2022 14:22

Oh I really want one! The only problem I can see is what do you do with it whilst you're actually shopping? It would be brilliant for walking to my local supermarket just not sure what to do with it while I'm there.

Nousernameforme · 13/01/2022 14:23

I am looking at those Reisenthal ones that look like a tote bag on a handle. Maybe that's a good gateway bag to a full shopper

They sell them in Zara and primark!
They are quilted and gorgeous

I have a spotty one but I'm going to upgrade to a nicer one soon!

CharlotteRose90 · 13/01/2022 14:23

Oh god my mum had one of the ones on 4 wheels when I was in high school. I hated shopping with her as they are frankly embarrassing. Then luckily we got a car so she got rid of it.

oohmama · 13/01/2022 14:24

and I'm 30 haha

LadyinRead · 13/01/2022 14:25

I have had a shopping trolley since I was 35. I couldn't give a damn what anyone else thinks about it, but in any case no-one ever commented. I can get a week's worth of shopping in it along with my backpack.

What I really want now is one of the wire granny-style ones that my grandmother had.

satci · 13/01/2022 14:26

Not everyone's style but not 'old woman' either.

LadyinRead · 13/01/2022 14:26

what do you do with it whilst you're actually shopping?

You fold it up and hang it on the little hook on the shopping trolley.

3scape · 13/01/2022 14:27

A lot of families here do small shops with these trolleys, rather than use a car, as we are a nice walk (past a lake and a park) away from a supermarket. So it's not at all an odd sight. It's very much an accessory for walking and doing your bit for the environment.

Georgeskitchen · 13/01/2022 14:28

YANBU I had one in my late 20s, small children, didn't drive etc. It was great for bringing the shopping home. I must add though that i was living in a town where nobody knew me. I'm not sure I would be so keen if I was in my home town 😉😉
But don't let that put you off they are really good especially if you have some mobility issues (I didnt)

LadyinRead · 13/01/2022 14:29

I hated shopping with her as they are frankly embarrassing

I bet you were embarrassed when she bought loo roll also? Grin

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 13/01/2022 14:31

I’ve got one but it’s the smaller kind that you drag behind you. Nothing against the frame kind but I didn’t need one that big. Go for it!
