I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

I literally just clicked from this thread, to this TikTok. Algorithm is creepy! Chances are this gal is younger and cooler than you OP (no offence) so go for it!

I've got a 4 wheel Spanish made trolley as well. It looks cool, and wheels with one hand. You can push it or pull it and it's often mistaken for a pram. Excellent for when you can use scan and go in shops!

AwayW0rldExit4 · 13/01/2022 15:04

Buy bright coloured sholley!

BruceAndNosh · 13/01/2022 15:06

As long as your trolley isn't red and black tartan, you'll be good

onedayoranother · 13/01/2022 15:07

Jeez I went to university in Paris isnd a friend had one - really convenient! I used to live by the beach and used one to haul all the beach stuff - invaluable with heavy wet and sandy towels!
There are plenty of funky looking designs out there. Seems very sensible.

Not granny-ish at all!

Tvci5 · 13/01/2022 15:09

Absolutely! My tip would be get one with rubber wheels, plastic are so loud

Chloemol · 13/01/2022 15:09

I used to use one when I used to work in an office and do food shopping after ( it’s delivered now or I would still use one)

You can get really pretty ones.

Go for it

StellaDarkley · 13/01/2022 15:12

Get one - a very lightweight one. I have seen young people all over the continent with them - what's the difference between that and a pull-along suitcase on wheels? Everyone has those now as well.

Davros · 13/01/2022 15:12

The best ones are those big, rigid basket ones with a wooden handle that looks like a walking stick 😂

Luxembourgmama · 13/01/2022 15:12

I have a leopard print one it's cool. I use it every week.

Tal45 · 13/01/2022 15:13

What about one like this? Reasonably priced and pretty smart (but not colourful).

Go for it.
I got mine when I was in my 30’s because of my elbow joint issues. Don’t give a shit how it looks like.
It’s life saver, sooo much easier to walk through several shops without arms stretched to knees with all bags!

CherieBabySpliffUp · 13/01/2022 15:14

I lasted out until my 39th birthday before getting one and wished I got one as I felt the same but wish I'd got one sooner. Mine has 6 wheels (3 each side) that spin so it makes getting up and down curbs a doddle. It's also good at distributing the weight I think so isn't heavy when full. My only slight bug bear is the handle could be a bit longer so I don't catch the back of my feet sometimes.

I like this one!

CharlotteRose90 · 13/01/2022 15:16

@LadyinRead

I hated shopping with her as they are frankly embarrassing

I bet you were embarrassed when she bought loo roll also? Grin

Haha not at all actually as I Bowel condition so need the loo roll. Anything else 😂😂.
MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 13/01/2022 15:18

@RedCandyApple

I wouldn’t use one, I’m sorry but I would be too embarrassed too, I know I shouldn’t be but round near me they are definitely only used by elderly people, my mum is 60 and even she said she wouldn’t have one, she uses suitcase maybe try that instead?
Count yourself lucky you don't need to use a walking aid if you equate a shopping trolley with age. Loads of people use them regardless of age. You can even buy cheerful coloured ones in Ikea!
CatOfTheLand · 13/01/2022 15:18

I'm dying for a leopard print one!

Justilou1 · 13/01/2022 15:20

I also have hypermobility - much sympathy! I have had a “market trolley” which has two large wire baskets for about ten years now. I have found it more stable than the traditional “Nanna on the bus” style one. Also, things like eggs, avocados, tomatoes, etc less likely to get squished. I also use it to take wet laundry outside to the washing line.

Snowiscold · 13/01/2022 15:21

Lots of people have them where I am - even young people. I saw a fit-looking Australian guy aged about 30 with one the other day in the supermarket.

OldTinHat · 13/01/2022 15:21

Everyone has them round here! 20s to 90s. They're great. I would say to try one first for sizing. I'm 5'7 and just ordered one online and the handle wasn't tall enough for me. They are a game changer!

Herestoyoucolinrobinson · 13/01/2022 15:23

I have hypermobility too and can relate. I got a reisenthel carrycruiser that holds loads but looks nice. It was fairly expensive though.

IToldYouIWasFreaky · 13/01/2022 15:24

I bought one when DS stopped using the pushchair, as I was previously using the basket under that (and the handles, thus knackering what little suspension is had Grin) so I must have been about 33. It's still going strong over 10 years later and I bloody love it. I didn't have a car for years and our local council doesn't do kerbside collection of glass so it's had a lot of use taking bottles to the bottle bank. It's brilliant for shopping too - why hurt your arms and back carrying loads of bags when a trolley is so much easier?
