Aibu to be too embarrassed to get a shopping trolley.

I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

@BruceAndNosh

As long as your trolley isn't red and black tartan, you'll be good
Do you feel better after writing that snide remark?

It was bought for me by my then 11 year old and 13 year old from a charity shop with their combined pocket money. I was on crutches at the time, unable to drive, and they thought it would help me. It did. Very much.

They were delighted with their purchase as was I, and the last thing any of us cared about was its colour, nor the fact that it was tartan.

Children in charity shops with very little money don't usually have a say in the fabric used to make the item they are purchasing.

Anais Gallagher just showcased her old lady shopping trolley on Tik Tok so you’ll be in fashionable company!

YorkshireGal90 · 15/01/2022 20:58

YANBU - if it saves you carrying heavy shopping & straining yourself go for it. My mum & dad had one when I was a kid for the weekly shop as didn't have a car & an previous boss of mine used one to move stock (bottle of pop etc). My mum still uses one now & she's in her early 50s, like others have said there's plenty of funky designs available too.

ballerina1971 · 15/01/2022 20:59

YANBU, go for it, there are great ones about. I had to get one in my late 30's due to arthritis in my hip and back
Couldn't carry bags easily without pain, so got myself one and it was such a blessing!!

RememberThePenguins · 15/01/2022 21:06

Can you use them on steps easily?

I try and do my food shop on foot but I have a flight of about 30 steps to get up to get home.

schmalex · 15/01/2022 21:20

Everyone uses them in Paris! Just go for it.

0palescent · 15/01/2022 22:06

YANBU, before I drove I had one. I could fit LOADS in there, and didn't have to struggle home anymore. They're really handy!

Some have wheels on for making stairs easier, they're called "stair climbing wheels". I've not tried them, but they look like they'd do the job.

I have one of these in purple, adjustable handle with large wheels
can also be attached to a bike, not cheap but absolutely brilliant it is balanced so well super easy to use even when full of shopping,
every time I take it out I get asked where I got it from, even had someone take a photo of it once.
They also do a small one for children "Andersen Unus Fun"

Can I just say I'm seeing all these pictures of two wheelers' on this thread!

People, trolley people, potential trolley people, four wheelers' is the way to go!

No tilt, no drag, more cubic space not entirely sure about that but I'm claiming it until someone contradicts me and yeah, well, if you're going down the shopping trolley route you've gotta go for a four wheeler surely?

NoWordForFluffy · 15/01/2022 22:46

Too late to get 4 wheels when you've already bought a 2 wheeler though!

But yes, if I was to need another (mine has lasted about 13 years so far!), then I'd get 4 wheels!

True!

I have had the two wheeler myself as it happens. A perfectly functional contraption, and rather stylish in terms of design, but if I'm being honest - lacking in space!

However ... The four wheel charity shop tartan purchase (which upset some miserable fucker earlier on in the thread), was mega in all regards.

Rectangular shape for starters (like a box on wheels). Didn't so much as drag along as float along.

Carried six rolls of wallpaper, two tins of paint, a curtain rail and curtains on two buses.

I rest my case!

I have seen lots of young people using them and you can get them with lovely designs and colours. You should definitely get one.

timestheyarechanging · 16/01/2022 07:57

I've just ordered one! It's folds me and was under £10 from eBay. It folds down to a tote bag. I'm under 50 but feel it will make shopping trips much less effort and I too see a lot of younger people with them now. Go for it!

NoWordForFluffy · 16/01/2022 08:11

I'd be careful how much you bump that on kerbs or steps, as the wheels don't look very sturdy.

@Jitters22 I came on here to apologise that my "Snide" remark caused offence where none was intended. I had only read the OP's remarks and hadn't seen your photo.
But since you've referred to me as a "miserable fucker", I feel that we are quits Hmm

I had a big old fashioned one in my 20s. It was a godsend doing my weekly shop with no car at the time.

Holothane · 16/01/2022 16:29

Mines four wheels and a godsend,

Imouttahere · 18/01/2022 22:16

I bought a trolly a few years ago. Needed to transport a few heavy bits from my mums place, on the train back to mine. It was a godsend when we went into lockdown. DH had just sold his car, so started using mine to get to work. DS was home learning leaving me not much time or energy to get the shopping. Like I said, a godsend. It carries plenty and doesn't leave marks all up your forearms. Mine is white with city names and landmarks. My cousin has a cow print one. They're awesome

I'm seeing more and more young people with them. If it's going to help you, get one! As others have mentioned, there are lots of lovely ones in pretty colours.
