I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

When I lived in France I had a shopping trolley. Decided it was fine after seeing the hundredth student wheeling one to the supermarket. It made life so much easier.

MrsPotatoHead22 · 13/01/2022 13:47

My sister got one at 21. Everyone laughed, she didn't care! Go get one.

Xmasgetaway · 13/01/2022 13:47

I’m 40 and I got one recently with flamingos on it.
I drive, but I try to walk when I can and I can do a shop/take books to the library etc without putting strain on my back.

No one bats an eyelid, but I’m not embarrassed and hiding away with it.

I own walking with the shopping trolley! 😂

I had a nice tartan one when I was 30. I don't care what other people did or didn't think - not that I ever had any inkling anyone batted an eyelash.

Davros · 13/01/2022 13:51

I've seen very fashionable young Japanese girls using them

smashthesigns · 13/01/2022 13:53

We use a suitcase because we can't be having buying something else - not having the bags digging into your fingers, being able to carry more weight... do what you can to make things work for you! NOBODY cares, not really.

DavidSPumpkins · 13/01/2022 13:55

I’m 39, no mobility problems and I got one for Christmas. I live in a top floor tenement so mines has got special wheels to go up the stairs. You can take the bag off and use it as a dolly in case you go to IKEA etc- it’s brilliant.
It’s not even particularly pretty- I call it my Roy Cropper. I couldn’t be parted from it now!

VelvetChairGirl · 13/01/2022 13:56

Just buy one, I am 42 I got one about 5 years ago in ikea on a sale, I planned to take the bag off and use it as a sack truck for carrying ikea furniture home as I was on a new things spree at the time after the ex left, wanting to change everything to forget him, I'd already walked home with two folding chairs, and two tables.

but I ended up using it for shopping and its great for when I need to buy alot or when theres offers on like on crates of beer.

no one has ever given me a second glance with it.

Skinnytailedsquirrel · 13/01/2022 13:57

Shopping trolleys are fab. Pretend you are French! One of my favourites is Reisenthel carry cruiser www.connox.co.uk/categories/accessories/shopping-trolleys/carrycruiser.html

Bishbashboshing · 13/01/2022 13:57

I agree with galacticpixels, they are super trendy in my part of London. Lots of younger people using them

Watercoloursky · 13/01/2022 13:57

I'm 34, and have had my little trolley for years... it is definitely my most useful possession! It comes on my walk to the supermarket every week, but I've also used it when moving house (new home was nearby, rent overlapped and I used it to transport a few bits over the course of several evenings)and on other occasions. Would highly recommend!

VelvetChairGirl · 13/01/2022 13:58

@RedCandyApple

I wouldn’t use one, I’m sorry but I would be too embarrassed too, I know I shouldn’t be but round near me they are definitely only used by elderly people, my mum is 60 and even she said she wouldn’t have one, she uses suitcase maybe try that instead?
Round me I see lots of kids with them taking washing to and from the launderettes, like teenagers.
BettySundaes · 13/01/2022 13:59

On the continent its very normal, but there still seems to be an association here with grannies. I bought a storage box on wheels - the kind of thing DJ's use to carry records around. It collapses so I carry it to the supermarket in my bag for life and they roll home. I wouldn't pass for a young DJ on the way back from a club but I feel less grannif-ied!

Hemingwayzcatz · 13/01/2022 13:59

They’re fairly normal, quite a lot of nice patterned ones nowadays as well.

BaronessBomburst · 13/01/2022 14:00

I bought one when I was around your age. It's bright red with white polka dots. It's brilliant! I've had loads of use out of it.

adoreyou · 13/01/2022 14:00

I can remember saying that these need to become trendy again! So glad they are.... love the funky colour ones!

Get one OP!

Ted27 · 13/01/2022 14:00

I have a polka dot one, its very jolly. I also have square trolley thing I use to lug things up and down to the allotment

I don't drive, I have a bad back, I'm not of pensionable age. On occasion I also use a walking stick and have done so since my 30s

I don't see why you are embarrassed to get something that help you.

Just get one, no one is looking at you.

Fraternaltwin · 13/01/2022 14:01

Go for it! Who cares what anyone else thinks. If it will help you, I would t hesitate. And who knew there was a website dedicated to them.

FaoinDrualus · 13/01/2022 14:02

I have had one since I was 30! I got it initially as I lived quite a way from the supermarket and preferred to walk for the exercise but also only wanted to go once a week.
I now live almost opposite a supermarket, go more frequently so don't use it much. But every so often I'll do a bulk shop of heavy things and am delighted to have my trolley. It's particularly good when the boxes of wine are on sale Smile
I usually unload directly into my cellar (its on ground level) and just take up what's needed but one day I'll get one of the trolleys with the 3-weel axel you can use on stairs - my apartment is on the second floor, no lift.

scaredsadandstuck · 13/01/2022 14:03

My poshest friend has one. Just do it. No one will bat an eyelid. And if they do, who cares! You will be laughing all the way home and your elbow and other joints will thank you Smile

AllKindsOfWrong · 13/01/2022 14:04

I love shopping trolleys, I've used them for years. I drive but often walk to my local supermarket with my trolley rather than drive.
I'm currently sporting a bright pink floral one.
I care more about my comfort than other people's thoughts.

I want one now! I have no need for it, but now I've looked at them I want one!

Aibu to be too embarrassed to get a shopping trolley.
mrsjoyfulprizeforraffiawork · 13/01/2022 14:06

I am now of pension age but I got my first old lady's trolly when I was about 30, because heaving overloaded rucksacks during my travels had caused intermittent back pain. I had decided not to stress my back unnecessarily thenceforth as I needed it to last me my lifetime. I have never found it embarrassing - I just see other people struggling with heavy shopping and wonder why they don't do the sensible thing.
