I am 38 and I want one of those shopping trolleys that are basically a bag on a frame on wheels. I don't drive (don't start, tried both manual and automatic and can't get to grips with it also can't afford it) and I also don't like taking public transport so I tend to walk everywhere. But I also have hypermobility and during pandemic heights buggered myelbow carrying heavy shopping.
All in having a trolley would be very useful but I can't get passed being embarrassed about using one. Does anyone here have one that isnt of pension age?

Yabu you are still young and should put up with carrying everything it's extra exercise.

Yanbu go and get one they are fantastic. Age be damned.

I completely understand your reluctance. I am 51. Have arthritis, early onset, and struggle carrying shopping. I dont drive either. I was in a shop last week, saw a shopping trolley. Nice and bright pink. But, I am still thinking. What will people think. Probably what a bloody good idea. So I have used it and quite frankly, after a while you don't really care, because you know it makes sense.

RebeccasoldercousinSusie · 14/01/2022 19:26

If I didn’t drive, I wouldn’t hesitate to get one.

Nothing to be embarrassed about. If it makes your life easier then don’t let embarrassment stop you!

Anais Gallagher (daughter of Noel and professional hip young thing) posted a video that it’s the best thing she’s ever brought so expect them to become a new fashionista accessory and prices to rise as every toktokker and their dog jump on the trend.. get in now I’d say!

LouLou198 · 14/01/2022 19:31

I have one, I am 39.
Once dc were out of their pushchairs it annoyed me that I had nothing to hang my shopping bags on! It had loads of storage in a basket underneath too. So I bought a trolley!! It has flamingos on it Smile. Honestly you won't regret it.

ProfYaffle · 14/01/2022 19:34

I'm surprised at the number of people saying they take suitcases to the supermarket - do you all work at Downing Street or something? Grin

bedheadedzombie · 14/01/2022 19:37

I bought one once on the way home from the market while carrying heavy stuff. I think I was 25 or 26 at the time. I'm 42 now and drive, but had my trolley and used it well into my 30s. It was such an easy thing to have! Go for it.

muddyford · 14/01/2022 19:44

I had one throughout my 30s as parking anywhere near the local shops was a nightmare. It wasn't even a trendy modern one, but a Marketeer like my Mum's. Saved me entering my 40s with knuckles dragging on the pavement.

SoManyTshirts · 14/01/2022 19:48

I have one, and as a granny with a walking impairment I hardly use it - I don’t need much shopping.

As a mum in my 30s and 40s I used a shopping trolley almost every day and parked it in the cloakroom during the working day. Saves a huge amount of effort and energy, and your back and shoulders will thank you for it in the long run.

Imissmoominmama · 14/01/2022 19:50

I’ve always wanted a wicker one…

user1491320660 · 14/01/2022 19:51

I have hEDS with my arms and shoulder especially hypermobile. For me it is whatever saves my joints. Go for it. I would get one if I didn’t get my shopping delivered. Take care.

knobblykneesandturnedouttoes · 14/01/2022 19:52

My grandma refuses to use one at 84. I've been using one since 21. They're very useful and better for the elbows and shoulders than shopping bags.

Frigginintheriggin · 14/01/2022 19:52

I have two friends, not old at all, who use them.
Personally I can't, I'd struggle with a trolley and a walking stick. But I'm not judging anyone who does, it makes sense if you need one

MsChatterbox · 14/01/2022 20:15

My flatmate had one in uni I was so jel of it but not as brave as her to use one! But honestly just do it and do it with confidence!

Isgooglebroken · 14/01/2022 20:16

This person is younger than you and has bought one. Seems sensible.

baffledbunny · 14/01/2022 20:16

How about one of these? You can carry it like a bag and then whip out the wheels when you need them..

I bought a similar one on groupon but haven't used it yet.

BurntO · 14/01/2022 20:16

A million percent go and get one. I know a few young people with them. If I didn’t drive I’d totally get one.

LaDamaDeElche · 14/01/2022 20:17

I used to think the same as you, but DP (Spanish) bought me one quite soon after we got together. He couldn't believe I was lugging bags of heavy shopping back with no car. So I had my first one when I was 35! I live in Spain now and loads of people have them.

Etherealhedgehog · 14/01/2022 20:17

I'm 37. I have one. Who cares what people think!

PickleChipsareyummy · 14/01/2022 20:18

Please get yourself one. I also have hypermobility - i have HEDS - and really wish I had taken more care of my back and shoulders. 12 years ago, I didn’t use the right types of bag. Ended up having to have both shoulders pinned and shaved and had spinal fusion surgery, just through not taking care of my joints when carrying heavy things.
There are some lovely ones but, to be fair, I would use an old lady tartan one before going through that again.
Hope that helps

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 14/01/2022 20:18

I bought quite an expensive one in plain lime green because I tend to buy more than I set out to buy and end up lugging 3 heavy carrier bags weighed down with kilos of sugar, milk, fruit and all manner of heavy stuff. I abandoned it at my local charity shop after only a few uses. It made me feel old...and I'm 77.

HeidiHaus · 14/01/2022 20:23

Get one, I saw some glamorous young thing on TikTok extolling the virtues of them only yesterday.
Also, literally no-one else cares about your method of carrying your shopping. Grin

Dontwanttolivewithmylover · 14/01/2022 20:25

Mine was a Rollster.

baffledbunny · 14/01/2022 20:27

I read an article once about why wheelie suitcases were only a recent invention - the author said that even though wheels were invented thousands of years ago, wheelie suitcases were shunned for years because of masculine insecurity - men would prefer to carry their family's cases by hand, no matter how heavy, because they didn't want to look weak!

He pointed out the female equivalent in this scenario are shopping trolleys - despite how much obvious sense they make, women don't want to use them in case it makes us look old! So true it hurts lol.

It was pretty good, if I can find it again I'll link to it.

Sunsetmom · 14/01/2022 20:31

My niece at university along with all her friends all have them to go and do their food shop! Apparently they are bang on trend now!
