How often should I shower?

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

Personally I think 3 times a week is pretty grim, sorry.
I am a shower everyday person. I can’t get going in the morning without one to be honest.

lilikiki · 12/01/2022 10:39

Shower when you want to? If you stink then yes, shower more. If not, who actually cares just how much time you spend washing?
I have a shower every day but that’s because I’m a manky person who tends to smell super quick! I’d love not to be tho haha

Fraine · 12/01/2022 10:40

YANBY, that’s absolutely fine.

If you don’t smell then there is no need to shower.
The only thing I would say is you need to wash with water after a poo, period etc.

RedCandyApple · 12/01/2022 10:40

4 kids, single parent, shower daily, always have even when they were newborns. I wouldn’t leave the house without one tbh.

MrsPotatoHead22 · 12/01/2022 10:40

I shower every day. Its just "normal" too.

thecapitalsunited · 12/01/2022 10:41

The only time I don’t shower every day is when I’m depressed. Then I can’t find the energy for it. I don’t know anyone who doesn’t shower every day.

ShowOfHands · 12/01/2022 10:41

There is nothing wrong with showering 3 times a week if you don't need a shower on the in between days.

DropYourSword · 12/01/2022 10:41

Sorry, I’m a shower every day person too. There might occasionally be a day where I don’t have a shower but that would be the exception rather than the rule!

Billandben444 · 12/01/2022 10:41

You do what suits you. I don't shower every day - retired and not very active. I love these shower threads and am waiting for the 3-times a day gal to rock up!

Bunce1 · 12/01/2022 10:41

I shower everyday unless I am unwell.

I like it because-
Wakes me up
Feels nice
I smell good after

I don’t suppose there is any reason why you should shower more. As long as you’re not smelly? Do you change your tops everyday? Oi would think that you’d sweat into your top a nominal amount.

Forshorttheycallmecomp · 12/01/2022 10:43

Suits you. It doesn’t suit me. Even with newborns and when (for various reasons) it hurt, I showered every day.

DoodleBelle · 12/01/2022 10:43

Personally I shower every day but I don’t wash my hair every time. I’m sure you must wash on days you don’t shower but for me it’s easier popping in the shower than having a wash at a sink. If you don’t smell and are happy as you are then I don’t see an issue.

Topseyt · 12/01/2022 10:43

Daily shower is normal here. I wouldn't leave the house without it.

LaBellina · 12/01/2022 10:44

I shower every day and so does my DH.
He naturally has sort of odorless sweat but when he doesn’t shower for more then 24 hours, I can still somehow smell that he’s unwashed even when he can’t.

Youdoyoutoday · 12/01/2022 10:46

I'm on the fence here, I work out every day these days so do every day at the moment but if I've had a shower and the next day is a lazy day and we aren't leaving the house, then I'm happy not to waste the water as long as I'm not feeling grotty.

Thebig3 · 12/01/2022 10:47

I shower every day. I have 3 kids and have always showered everyday. It takes 2 mins!!

hugr · 12/01/2022 10:48

I wash "sweaty" areas every day but shower every other day. Ultimately different people need to shower different amounts, I rarely come across people that smell foul so I trust that people usually know when to shower.

claracluck71 · 12/01/2022 10:49

Each to their own, really.

Twice a day for me (three times when been to the gym or for a swim, etc). My husband is the same. I didn't think we were that unusual, tbh Smile

user1471523870 · 12/01/2022 10:49

I think it's absolutely fine and only you can judge on your needs!

For me, I like to shower every day first thing in the morning (when possible) as it's way quicker than wash my armpits, face, lady parts etc and also because my fine hair looks awful if not washed every day. I can do it in under 5 minutes, plus 10 max to dry my hair.

irregularegular · 12/01/2022 10:51

I think that these days most people shower every day? I always shower as soon as I get out of bed, and think I basically always did even when I had small children (DH would look after children while I quickly showered). However, I don't think it is essential for most people really. It's a habit and makes me feel better - it is a vital part of waking up.

Hellodarknessmyoldpal · 12/01/2022 10:52

I shower everyday but might have the odd pj days when I'm doing nothing. I feel like I need to before i leave the house but i think that is a mental thing more than because it is really needed. However if other people don't feel the need to then that's up to them. Each to their own and all that Smile

DrWhoNowww · 12/01/2022 10:52

It varies between every day and every other day depending on what I’m doing.

If I’m in the office - shower before work as my hair looks awful on second day, not dirty just a mess regardless of how I style it.

If I’m not in the office then I won’t shower before work as I’m normally going to the gym once I finish so will shower after that.

If I’m having a lazy day and don’t go to the gym I’ll shower the next morning, but I’m equally likely to have a bath if I’m having a lazy evening in (which also includes a post bath shower as I use bath oils and don’t wash my hair in bath water)

So yes, most days I will have a shower.

DingDongDenny · 12/01/2022 10:53

Showering every day is the norm now, but when I was growing up very few people had a shower (70s, early 80s) everyone had a bath

Very few people had a bath every day, it was more like a few times a week, then wash the important bits with a facecloth.

I much prefer a shower every day, takes 2mins if I don't wash my hair, but I don't think it's necessary, or that you are dirty or smelly if you don't

MsAgnesDiPesto · 12/01/2022 10:53

If you don’t need to wash hair you can have a good body wash in the shower in under a minute - just lower the shower head so it’s below face height. I never understand why people say they don’t shower every day but do pits and bits in the sink instead - that takes longer, is messy and you still have to get undressed!

So I can’t see an excuse for not doing it every day. I like at least my undercarriage to be optimally clean, and going to the loo several times a day means a daily wash is needed.

Ponoka7 · 12/01/2022 10:54

I'm a shower everyday person as well. If it suits you and your partner, then it's upto you. I think people should wash everyday. I used to wonder how people could smell like that so early on public transport, it's been a revelation to me that working etc people don't wash. As your children get older let them bath every night if they want to, don't let them be the smelly kid at school.
