How often should I shower?

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

I don't shower every day. I wash every morning and night with a flannel and shower every other day...more if I swim.

UnwantedOpinionBelow · 12/01/2022 10:55

You should definitely shower at least once a day

Ponoka7 · 12/01/2022 10:55

Social distancing has been a blessing especially over summer.

yellowsmileyface · 12/01/2022 10:55

I shower about 3 times a week, too, so obviously I think it's fine!

I have sensory issues and I absolutely hate showering (the noise, the feel of the water hitting my skin... it's an attack on the senses for me). I wouldn't want to have a bath everyday as it'd be wasteful of water and much more time consuming. I'll have an extra wash at the sink if I feel I need it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/01/2022 10:56

When there are mushrooms sprouting out of crevices I know I've probably left it just a little bit too long...

... this time. Grin

montysma1 · 12/01/2022 10:57

I don't shower every day. So wasteful. Generations before us didn't have showers including my parents. And they definitely weren't manky.
Its just one if those 1st world things people have taken to doing. completely unnecessary.

mumda · 12/01/2022 10:57

Do you smell? No. Then carry on.

I think the rising energy bills might make people question whether they need clean bed sheets every night boil-washed, and then bathing twice daily.

murasaki · 12/01/2022 10:57

First thing everyday, hair every other day. I need it to wake up!

IDKAYBIF32 · 12/01/2022 10:57

My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me.

How come he has time to work out every weekday, but you don't get 5 minutes to have a shower?

If you don't want to shower every day, then fair enough. But if you're saying it's because you don't have time, but you partner has half an hour or more per day to spend on himself, then I'd be questioning this if I were your friend. You need time for yourself too.

DreamerSeven · 12/01/2022 10:57

Daily for me, I have a sensitive nose though and can often tell when people haven’t showered/bathed after sleeping, there’s a particular slightly musty smell they emit.

PheasantsNest · 12/01/2022 10:58

Every day. I wouldn't fancy being close to someone who doesn't shower every day.

HopeYourHighHorseBucks · 12/01/2022 10:58

When we had a shower it would be every day. Now we only have a bath it's every other day with a sink wash on non bathing days.

Washing is more than just making sure you don't smell so I don't think I could go any longer than I do now as a sink wash freshens me up on days I don't go out, but I dont feel as clean as after bathing.

MintyGreenDream · 12/01/2022 10:58

I bathe once or twice a day

crochetmonkey74 · 12/01/2022 10:58

meh to each his own I think

BUT
There is this weird social media fad that seems to be taking hold of competitive not showering/not hair washing etc

I think a shower takes a few minutes - yet often I see Instagram posts from big Influencers/ celebrities (that probably took the time of a quick shower) bragging about how they simply haven't had time to shower/ hairwash.

I call bullshit on it- having a child or children does not mean you literally never have 5 minutes to yourself ever in a 24 hour period

justbegoodforme · 12/01/2022 10:59

Each to his own.
Not every day. I know when I need a shower.

Houseofvelour · 12/01/2022 11:00

I shower every other day (sometimes a bit less) and no problems here. Definitely not a smelly person.
Showering daily dries out the skin and damages hair.

MaybeHeIsMyCat · 12/01/2022 11:00

Every day for me but wash my hair 2-3 times a week

PinchOfVom · 12/01/2022 11:00

It takes two mins, why would you not shower daily? There is literally no reason why not / and yes I’ve had kids 2 under 2 at one point and never missed a shower

3 times a week is gross.

Yummmg · 12/01/2022 11:02

I shower every other day mostly

swampytiggaa · 12/01/2022 11:02

I shower if I’ve exercised. So can be every day or every other day or sometimes twice a day. Depends.

I’m not showering before work because I start at 5am so get up at 4am. No way am I getting up earlier than that 😂😂 tbh I’m happy if people keep away from me at work 😊

DirectionToPerfection · 12/01/2022 11:03

Every day, that is definitely the norm now. I wouldn't feel fresh at all if I only showered 3 times a week.

DisappointingCaramel · 12/01/2022 11:04

I wash my pits and groin everyday but don't wash my hair everyday, I feel smelly and dirty if I don't.
When I was a teenager I only washed my bits/hair every other day or even every few days during summer hols. . Yeah grim lol.

Zombiemum1946 · 12/01/2022 11:04

I probably shower around 3 times a week. More than that and my skin plays up, but I'm not a particularly odourful person anyway. I'll shower daily if on holiday to get sunscreen off, but that's probably the only time. I'll collar and cuff it, with a wash cloth if its needing a little top up. When the kids were little I would bath or shower with them everyday but that was more to get them in for a quick wash and basket with water. With 4 of us and only one shower it can be a bit of a first in gets the hot water (1 teen and 1 preteen) anyway.

Wafflesnsniffles · 12/01/2022 11:04

I shower 3 times a week. Only more often if its hot or Ive been doing something that actually makes me need a shower more often.

"Every day. I wouldn't fancy being close to someone who doesn't shower every day." (picked that one quote but there are many others on this thread I could have chosen)....... unless you exist without friends/colleagues/aquaintances you will be "close" in some sense to someone who doesnt shower every day on a regular basis I should think. You wont know it but you will be.
And the fact you will be unaware they dont shower every day proves the point............. no need to shower everyday. Its a modern luxury. An assumption that its dirty not to. Its actually better for your skin not to shower so often and its certainly better for the environment.

Zombiemum1946 · 12/01/2022 11:05

settled with water bloody auto correct.
