How often should I shower?

Ok so I'm having a few drinks with friends last night. We are all female a mix of parents and non parents. One friend mentions she is struggling to find time for o shower every day since she had her baby. I said "well I don't shower every day without a young baby," All of my friends looked at me in horror. Apparently even the ones with kids shower daily. Full disclosure I have two dd one under five and I work part time. I shower on work days plus one extra day so usually three times a week my days off usually consist of playing at home, walking dog, school run and maybe park. I would shower extra if exercising/having sex/on period etc. I bath my dc three times a week. My oh works out every week day so he does shower more than me. AIBD? (Disgusting 😂)

When I had a newborn I didn’t shower everyday, husband was deployed and my baby screamed everytime I put her down.

Now I have a toddler, if I miss a shower in the odd day I don’t stress about it one bit.

CaliforniaDrumming · 12/01/2022 11:37

Daily. I can't leave the house without showering; I feel dirty. But then I come from a hot country where showering twice a day is not unusual.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 12/01/2022 11:38

Every day for me. I shower at night as there's no way I'm getting into bed unwashed.
Even with a newborn I got showered every night, just had to put up with the screaming. Due my second soon so will see how that affects things.

However, my toddler certainly doesn't get bathed more than 3 times a week - I don't have time for that!

Rockbottom2910 · 12/01/2022 11:38

I always find time to shower every day. I really enjoy a shower and find it puts me in a better mood. Even if I am really busy I will fit it in somewhere - I will set my alarm earlier and have one before bed or even at random times throughout the day.

Dp is similar to you. 2/3 times a week max. It used to gross me out cos I've showered or bathed daily since being a child. He's not got a overly dirty or sweaty job though. He washes every day and changes his clothes, socks, pants twice a day (work then home). I would rather he did daily though. I think it's how you were brought up too. Showering every day was normal in my family. For Dp he got a weekly bath or shower as a kid on a Sunday. This was in the 80's. Two weekly as a teen! He's sees having a bath or shower as more of a chore. Whereas I get satisfaction from having one 😅

Even now dp's mum said it's his younger sisters bath night. His sister is in her twenties... found it weird. Surely his sister can make her own mind up.

I would rather jump in the shower than faff around having a wash at the sink.

I’m on the fence. I usually have a shower or shallow bath every single day. In the summer when it’s hot I might have two quick showers in a day. I never spend hours in there it’s a wet down, soap up and rinse off.

I’ve worked from home for years and years and sometimes when I’m going nowhere and seeing no one and it’s cold then I might give it a miss as my dry skin benefits from a day off.

I think for most people it’s assessing the situation. You stink you shower, you’re too hot and sweaty you shower, you’re wet and/or cold you have a bath or shower.

If none of the above apply you can be forgiven for having a day off.

ThunderCrow · 12/01/2022 11:38

Every day - though at the end of the day rather than the beginning (as most people seem to prefer). I like getting into bed clean.

But I can't find it in myself to care much what other people do, or to think it bad if they do something differently to me.

Agree that daily is a modern twist. Growing up, a bath every other day was the family 'norm'.

SituationCritical · 12/01/2022 11:38

I'd feel filthy if I only showered three times a week. Daily for me. I do go to the gym every day so it is a necessity due to the sweating, but I'd still shower daily without the gym.

Treeroo · 12/01/2022 11:38

Wash but shower less - better for the planet surely! People are individuals some would start to smell quicker than others if they didn’t shower daily others not so necessary. I know of one individual who never uses deodorant, I was astonished when they said as they never smell.

This thread really confirms some of the rampant eco-hypocrisy on MN!

@Billandben444

You do what suits you. I don't shower every day - retired and not very active. I love these shower threads and am waiting for the 3-times a day gal to rock up!
😂😂
JoshLymanIsHotterThanSam · 12/01/2022 11:40

Every other day in winter, every day in summer. Twice a day on holiday. It works for me

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 12/01/2022 11:41

@TulipVictory

Everyday !!! Eww bet you have smelly pants 🤢🤣
Just because I don't shower everyday does not mean I don't change my underwear. Christ how childish people are.
PurchaseInvoices · 12/01/2022 11:41

I only shower on days I wash my hair, usually every other day. I have long curly hair that I straighten and the steam buggers it up if I shower every day without washing my hair.

FirewomanSam · 12/01/2022 11:42

YANBU. If I’m staying home all day or only popping out to walk the dog or something then I sometimes skip a day. If I’m going anywhere else or seeing anyone in person then I always shower.

NatashaBedwouldbenice · 12/01/2022 11:42

You can wipe a lot off with toilet paper but first thing in the morning I always preferred a shower.

Well yes, but that's different to having a shower every time you have a bowel movement.

You do what suits you. I don't shower every day - retired and not very active. I love these shower threads and am waiting for the 3-times a day gal to rock up!

She's been and gone, you missed her.

Hiding this thread now as making me feel queasy, a bit like those that don’t wash hands after the toilet thread, I was on once. Be clean people - your poor partners !
You need to get some help

I don't eat meat, don't have a car, and all my clothes fit in half a wardrobe so I have arbitrarily decided it's ok to shower every day.
DillonPanthersTexas · 12/01/2022 11:42

I'm pretty sporty so usually shower twice a day.

Oneearringlost · 12/01/2022 11:43

@UnwantedOpinionBelow

You should definitely shower at least once a day
Why?
Kanaloa · 12/01/2022 11:43

I shower daily. I must say I have no idea how much my closest friends or even my sister & sil (who I’m very very close with) wash themselves.

I don’t know how people on mumsnet seem to get into conversations with their gal pals where they divulge how often they shower/bath/wash their feet and genitals in the sink etc etc etc. I would think someone who brought up how often they wash as part of a catch up was a bit odd to be honest.

garlictwist · 12/01/2022 11:44

I shower or bath every day otherwise I smell. Only get my hair wet and wash it three times a week though.

ChristmasTreeBee · 12/01/2022 11:44

3 times a week for me, I have terrible skin and suffer really badly and showering daily makes it a million times worse! I only wash my hair twice a week as well washing it more makes it greasy!

I don’t smell, always wear clean clothes etc the dermatologist I saw said to me washing every day isn’t good for you 🤷‍♀️

Also environmentally I don’t think washing daily is very, all that water & electricity being used.

Chloemol · 12/01/2022 11:44

Sorry to me 3 times a week is grim

I shower most days, very very occasionally I will miss a day

Are you serious? 😂 Fuck me, you'd be shit in a crisis...
piney07 · 12/01/2022 11:45

I shower every day except maybe if I’m ill or very hungover and forget but that is rare! Sometimes I don’t shower until about 4pm if WFH though as rushing in the morning and then don’t get time, but will quickly shower before DP gets back so that he doesn’t realise I’m as slobby as I am haha
