AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?

Seemslikeagoodidea · 11/01/2022 17:45

Today it has been revealed that in May 2020 invitations were emailed to (allegedly) 100 Downing Street staff, for a garden party. This party happened during the first lockdown, when many people could not visit their elderly relatives, even on their death beds, due to the lockdown rules. The email was sent by one of the PM's top people, and stated that people should "bring their own booze and enjoy the sunshine". Today Boris has been conspicuous by his absence.

I think this is the final straw and shows a lack of judgement and absence of moral fibre. Enough is enough - he should resign and if he doesn't do it then his own party should force him to go.

AIBU?

There were no parties.

If there were parties then they followed the law.

He's furious, he'll appointment an investigator.

Investigator was also invited. Find new investigator.

No cheese and wine doesn't constitute a party.

Of you meant that party. All my work meetings have gin on trestle tables and my wife and her mates there.

Flowertailbird · 12/01/2022 19:22

@JaniieJones

'You can't get outraged at a man and a party taking the piss out of the rest of us? You can't get outraged about them partying while the rest of us couldn't hold the hand of a dying loved one?'

He went outside for 25mins, not much partying tbf.

That weekend beaches were rammed which is possibly a more comparable situatuon than holding loved ones hands.

Ok, you say you can't get outraged at a man who attended a 'bring your own booze' and enjoy the sunshine work meeting in a garden when the rest of us had restrictions placed on us, by this man, which meant people couldn't be with dying loved ones? Is that better for you?. If only those people had had 25 minutes!!!! You really haven't got it have you? I'd love to hear you defend this to one of these people? Maybe you wouldn't be so flippant then.

His apology had the same vibe as his comment about racial inequality ‘we need them to stop feeling like this’ - victim blaming at its best Boris.

Using phrases such as ‘ragtag bunch’ really undermines an anti-Labour, or indeed any party agenda. Present some facts, not just name calling. People here are dismayed and disappointed due to FACTS that have come to light, not just because of prejudice.

I suspect the rabid support for Boris, regardless of his actions, probably goes hand in hand with several other ideologies that have made me ashamed to live in the UK in the last few years.

I think this Ryan Air tweet is pretty accurate.

@merrymouse

The cocktails are hilarious!

'He lies continually so I don't believe it was just 25 mins. I'd need cast iron proof of that to believe him.'

Why would he say it if it couldn't be proven. We know the place is full of cctv! of course he'll be able to prove where he was.

the80sweregreat · 12/01/2022 19:28

The others also left after 25 minutes too ?
They also broke all the rules too
They should also be fined or investigated.

SueSaid · 12/01/2022 19:29

Oh unclench. The Conservatives get 'name calling' on here all the time.

Imo Labour are a ragtag bunch of clowns. Sorry.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 19:30

Why would he say it if it couldn't be proven

For the same reason he said 'no rules were broken' and 'we adhered to covid restrictions'
He LIES.
That is fact

Yes, why would he lie like he did last week when he said he knew nothing about it?

@JaniieJones I am sure you like many of us have rewatched the Downing Street briefing from 20th May 2020. Was it stated that it was fine to go to parties outdoors for 25minutes?
Peaseblossum22 · 12/01/2022 19:30

He constantly says things that can’t be proven . Perhaps a good rule of thumb for him would be to only make statements that can be backed up in facts. It would be a novelty for him

Why would he say it if it couldn't be proven ??? You are talking about a man who lies all the time!!! Are you seriously not seeing this? You are seeing the Emperor in all his regalia . Deluded doesn't begin to cover it.

And Bozo isn't? That man is a bigger joke than a big top full of clowns. He's an embarrassment, and a liar to boot.

@the80sweregreat

Error of judgment? Do me a favor , this was a major balls up by people who should have known better !! On huge salaries , during a pandemic , are they always this thick? Please people , stop trying to defend these people and what they did. It is just farcical
it must be a judgment of error like matt hancocks one when he was caught on camera breaking social distancing rules by slathering all over a fellow married aide and groping away at her arse , the same rules he was always imploring the general public to follow , its so true i couldnt agree more with you

i mean how many more error or judgements are there going to be i wonder
its laughable , i started to steal from the shop where i work i wouldnt have the bloody luxury of saying oh it was a error of judgement , id be fired because its rightly a dismissable offence , yet these utter lying wankers get to just keep on going somehow , he should be forced to resign

Erm because he’s lied and lied and lied until he was caught out by leaks, despite knowing there was evidence out there that would show he lied. I believe he’s a compulsive liar, he does it so naturally. If someone shows CCTV of him dancing with a stripper there, down tequila into the small hours he will say ‘ahhhhh….well, what I meant was I was at the party 25 minutes. Then I left, well, went to the toilet, and then came back but I wasn’t dancing. I was doing work exercises, and she wasn’t a stripper, she was a PT who was very hot so took her clothes off. And it was non-alcoholic tequila. Barely even tequila really, water, in a tequila bottle which I didn’t know was tequila. I didn’t know it was 3am because I wasn’t so drunk…..

And so it goes on. And you, @JaniieJones appear to think that kind of narrative is ok in the leader of our country. Dear God, you sound like those blinkered Trump idolisers. You know, the ones who rioted when he lost.

Flowertailbird · 12/01/2022 19:36

@JaniieJones as well 😂😂

chaosrabbitland · 12/01/2022 19:36

meant to say if i started to

Flowertailbird · 12/01/2022 19:38

Well said!!! Yet people like @JaniieJones would still believe it.

Peaseblossum22 · 12/01/2022 19:42

An extraordinarily dignified article which demonstrates in some many ways why Boris Johnsons judgement in hosting such a gathering was so appallingly flawed .

@Aldinho57

Ye without sin cast the first stone, I love that saying, all the smug luvvies who try and act like butter would not melt ETC, lets be honest over lockdown I bet you all knew someone who flouted the rules, the non mask wearers, the party at my housers, the ones who drive to the beach 40 miles away, on Strava the ones who exercised like 5 times a day WHAAAAAT, yes we all know them and yes Boris is a clown but if he resigns who will replace him , what will we get instead ?, lets not get started on another party coming to power that ain't going to happen, so candidates please lets see bookies favourites, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, Jeremy Hunt or Michael Gove or Donald Trump maybe..
I remember threads on here 'AIBU to report my neighbours who are having a party?' Got shot down told they were nosey neighbours and should mind their own business.
Staffy1 · 12/01/2022 19:44

I don’t think it makes any difference if he goes or stays. They’re all as bad as each other and nothing ever changes for the better no matter who is in power.

Unsure33 · 12/01/2022 19:46

Actually what I do think is sad is that he actually was a very good and popular MP in his time . And when you meet him he does come across very differently than on the TV .
