AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?

Today it has been revealed that in May 2020 invitations were emailed to (allegedly) 100 Downing Street staff, for a garden party. This party happened during the first lockdown, when many people could not visit their elderly relatives, even on their death beds, due to the lockdown rules. The email was sent by one of the PM's top people, and stated that people should "bring their own booze and enjoy the sunshine". Today Boris has been conspicuous by his absence.

I think this is the final straw and shows a lack of judgement and absence of moral fibre. Enough is enough - he should resign and if he doesn't do it then his own party should force him to go.

AIBU?

Pitchfork wavers = people who expect the Prime Minister to show some integrity.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 21:15

Yeah... a mistake that he was caught out on. Not a mistake that he confessed to. He was forced to.
And countless times he lied about it.

No rules were broken
All covid restrictions were adhered to
There were no gatherings
etc.

Yes I watched PMQs. But you are on Mumsnet not PMQs. And Johnson admitted that in hindsight he shouldn't have gone into his garden for a work meeting. He did not admit to it being a bring your own booze, enjoy the sunshine get together (which is what we all know it was) so maybe it is you who should watch it again on catch up and maybe if you watch it again you might be able to spot the lies. I'll gave you a heads up, it is every time he opens his mouth

My messagw didn't include the quote but it was directed at @JaniieJones

Witch708 · 12/01/2022 21:21

Vallmo47 · 12/01/2022 21:23

YANBU. At all.

@22itsallnew
“my Mum was in solitary confinement after losing my Dad , her husband of over 40 years in Nov 19. Support bubbles were not allowed until June20.. Y'know...to give some perspective.”
Good example of how it’s easy for anyone to forget what was going on. Covid 19 did not arrive in the UK until January 2020.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 21:25

@LuisM
The poster was saying that her Mum and Dad had been married for 40 years in November 2019. Nothing else.

Pumperthepumper · 12/01/2022 21:26

At this stage in the pandemic a new leader to appease the pitchfork wavers would cause massive disruption which we can certainly do without.

Boris Johnson probably should have thought of that, shouldn’t he? The damage he could do to his own party.

Maybe you might want to think about getting this distasteful and disrespectful post of yours deleted?

He hasn't changed has he

AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?
Roussette · 12/01/2022 21:30

"It is churlish of us not to regard him as an exception. He believes he should be free of the network of obligation which binds everyone else"

Never a truer word said.

God, a quote from 1982. How very relevant.

But the issue is that he’s lost all credibility on the specific issue of handling the pandemic.

Swathes of the country will simply refuse to comply with any new restrictions he imposes, and its hard to blame them.

Flowertailbird · 12/01/2022 21:32

Sarcasm. How very relevant.

We're heading out of it.! Omicron has peaked there won't be any new restrictions. It's old news and people need to look forward.

Flowertailbird · 12/01/2022 21:34

No longer able to quote @JaniieJones but they are in response to her

Roussette · 12/01/2022 21:34

I agree Janiie. Very relevant. The boy became a man. He didn't change did he?

Very apt

Alexandra2001 · 12/01/2022 21:36

@justasking111

Bournemouth that weekend
Was this a mass party? did they all get an email? nope, individuals/families/support bubbles all went to same place.... its anot difficult to see the difference between this -lawful and Bojo's party - unlawful
TheHamburgler · 12/01/2022 21:37

Hopefully, but what’s to say there isn’t a more serious variant around the corner?

MrsGinnyM · 12/01/2022 21:41

Give me a child until he is 7 and I will show you the man.

Flowertailbird · 12/01/2022 21:41

@JaniieJones saying people need to look forward is easier said than done.

Maybe knowing that the people who made the rules which prevented some people from dying with dignity surrounded by their loved ones were having boozy work meetings and inviting up to 100 people to attend might prevent some from looking forward and maybe make them want to look back and get some answers for the pain.

Folk are looking forward, forward to a time Bojo is no longer PM.... but they are wrong i'm Team Janie "Keep Bojo the Clown PM"
22itsallnew · 12/01/2022 21:41

@JaniieJones This whole thing is the media and remainers trying hard to get shot of him dressed up as outrage over 'rulez breaking'

It's not. It's people who have given up an awful lot. Complied when it hurt to leave loved ones alone. Worked from home and tried to educate their children simultaneously. Went for months without their children playing with a friend. Cried with the pressure.

Remember the picture of the Queen at Philip's funeral sitting alone to comply with Covid laws. That is someone committed to public service who puts the country first. Johnson thinks he's above the law & puts himself first.

If I was a Conservative MP I'd be so angry at him bringing the Government into disrepute. If i worked in hospitality I'd be enraged my business was closed and making no money while they were inviting people for drinks on the lawn at No. 10.
