AIBU to think that Boris should resign now?

Today it has been revealed that in May 2020 invitations were emailed to (allegedly) 100 Downing Street staff, for a garden party. This party happened during the first lockdown, when many people could not visit their elderly relatives, even on their death beds, due to the lockdown rules. The email was sent by one of the PM's top people, and stated that people should "bring their own booze and enjoy the sunshine". Today Boris has been conspicuous by his absence.

I think this is the final straw and shows a lack of judgement and absence of moral fibre. Enough is enough - he should resign and if he doesn't do it then his own party should force him to go.

AIBU?

Oh yes. If he could've lied and got away with it, he would've done.

After all... he has said so so many times... all the rules were followed.

Plus... 'guidelines were followed'
Plus... 'all the guidelines were observed'
Plus... 'no covid lockdown rules were broken'

He knew at the time he had been to a party/gathering where 100 were invited so it was
Lie
Lie
Lie
Lie. So many times.

Someone justify that then? I can't be arsed to link to footage of this, but it's out there.

@littledrummergirl

Someone has just decided to seriously take the piss. Who the fuck thought it would be a good idea to broadcast the shit I've just seen on BBC. I was expecting the Conservative party broadcast was to say he had gone, not to show him saying how good he is.
The timing of that party political broadcast was truly bizarre. It's not like an election is imminent ... unless one is going to be called? Hmm So odd.

I was astonished that they put it on today of all days ?

'Johnson came across as genuine and believable'

Someone is telling porkies and it's not just Johnson! Grin Grin Grin

SueSaid · 12/01/2022 19:07

'I find it incredibly sad that some people on here, such as JaniieJones value themselves and their loved ones so little they are so accepting of the people setting the laws not following them'

What on earth makes you think that? I value myself plus loved ones very highly indeed thanks.

I just can't get outraged about this at all. It was an error of judgement, he's apologised just thank God the Tories are in power and we didn't have a 2 year Labour lockdown with that ragtag bunch of clowns trying to run things.

TheHamburgler · 12/01/2022 19:09

Ye without sin cast the first stone, I love that saying, all the smug luvvies who try and act like butter would not melt ETC, lets be honest over lockdown I bet you all knew someone who flouted the rules, the non mask wearers, the party at my housers, the ones who drive to the beach 40 miles away, on Strava the ones who exercised like 5 times a day WHAAAAAT, yes we all know them and yes Boris is a clown but if he resigns who will replace him , what will we get instead ?, lets not get started on another party coming to power that ain't going to happen, so candidates please lets see bookies favourites, Liz Truss, Rishi Sunak, Jeremy Hunt or Michael Gove or Donald Trump maybe..
This is a pathetically weak argument.

I not aware of anyone I know having had a party during lockdown m.
If they did, I’d have been appalled and would have no sympathy if they had their comeuppance.
And Boris Johnson is the fucking prime minister.

If this is the best Boris’ ring-lickers have left, he’s toast.

Why specifically the Tories though? You surely wouldn’t be voting for them only because they’re not Labour? Would you….?
Borderterrierpuppy · 12/01/2022 19:10

He won’t resign as it’s all a game to him, a game he wants to win.
He has no core values that are not 100% self serving. Hehas no morals, does not understand truth or decency. I despair of any party that elects him as a candidate or leader.

User135644 · 12/01/2022 19:10

@Peaseblossum22

I’m not keen on Angela Rayner but dear God she’s an improvement on Johnson. Anyone who was even remotely convinced by Boris Johnson’s not apology today needs their head examined . He didn’t apologise for the event , he apologised if done people thought it wasn’t within the guidelines . The implication being that us stupid ordinary people didn’t understand that special people are allowed to meet more than one other household in their garden. Even if you believe him you would still have to conclude that his judgement, both politically and morally in attending ( and probably suggesting ) such a gathering is seriously flawed.

Johnson has no concept of the truth, he quite simply has no idea what the difference is between the truth and a lie. He opens his mouth and says the most convenient thing for himself . He is a serial liar and has been all his life.

It was a 'sorry you feel that way' apology.
the80sweregreat · 12/01/2022 19:11

Error of judgment?
Do me a favor , this was a major balls up by people who should have known better !!
On huge salaries , during a pandemic , are they always this thick?
Please people , stop trying to defend these people and what they did.
It is just farcical

Roussette · 12/01/2022 19:12

There we go again... throw insults about as a means of argument.
Feeble

StoneofDestiny · 12/01/2022 19:12

once again Johnson came across as genuine and believable

What? 😂😂😂😂😂😂
He has never come across as genuine or believable. You'd have to be on drugs to think otherwise.

You can't get outraged at a man and a party taking the piss out of the rest of us? You can't get outraged about them partying while the rest of us couldn't hold the hand of a dying loved one?

You are as lacking in empathy and compassion as Boris and the rest of them. I pity you.

In what way is it an error of judgement to break a law that a Minister has clearly explained a few hours earlier from the same building applies at that time.

Is an error of judgement a reasonable excuse for other crimes as well?

SueSaid · 12/01/2022 19:15

'You can't get outraged at a man and a party taking the piss out of the rest of us? You can't get outraged about them partying while the rest of us couldn't hold the hand of a dying loved one?'

He went outside for 25mins, not much partying tbf.

That weekend beaches were rammed which is possibly a more comparable situatuon than holding loved ones hands.

phlebasconsidered · 12/01/2022 19:16

This whole apology of his is like when I deal with my teenager. After much evidence and persuasion they finally admit they WERE doing something I know damn well they were doing before rounding on me and claiming "Yeah but anyway ...." to deflect.

Our Prime minister is a dim 13 year old.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 19:16

Johnson's modus operandi ends up in a continual stream of 'errors of judgement'
Look at the Patterson debacle. He lost a seat over that. Thought he could walk on water by defending a chum, and the electorate showed him NO.

Howshouldibehave · 12/01/2022 19:16

just thank God the Tories are in power

Yeah…

Aldinho57 · 12/01/2022 19:17

Do you know what the Minister, Oliver Dowden said in the Downing Street briefing of 20th May 2020 about meeting people one did not live with?
Pixxie7 · 12/01/2022 19:18

I can’t believe that some of his party are still offending him, it makes me sick.

Roussette · 12/01/2022 19:19

He went outside for 25mins, not much partying tbf

Let's rephrase that.

"He SAYS he went outside for 25 mins"

He lies continually so I don't believe it was just 25 mins. I'd need cast iron proof of that to believe him.

I've shown 4 lies above in a post he said.

fuddleducks · 12/01/2022 19:20

Even assuming we believe the 'error of judgement' explanation which has been pulled out on a growing number of occasions, why is the man who is PM making quite so many errors? He shouldn't be making constant errors, he should be setting an example as a leader.
Whatever anyone thinks of Labour, they couldn't have done a worse job in the last 2 years.

Disclaimer: Obviously, no one with any sense would believe anything that comes out of Johnson's mouth.

jgw1 · 12/01/2022 19:20

@Aldinho57

No he is not toast, He will survive and prosper..
That's almost as funny as some of the questions from Tory MPs today at PMQs. Washing machines are clearly the most pressing issue of our time.
52andblue · 12/01/2022 19:20

Johnson is an amoral self serving borderline sociopath. When he opens his mouth, he lies. He should Resign, but he won't Resign. The question is, how long will the 1922 committee tolerate the damage he is wreaking?
