To be saddened, and yet also angry, that the Harry Potter 20th Anniversary Reunion show totally blanked JK Rowling?

I mean, she did create the bloody thing! Hmm

Just watched it. 100 minutes of the young cast who were the main characters (Harry, Ron, Hermione, Malfoy, Neville Longbottom, The Weasley brothers, etc,) gushing over one another. Laughing and hugging and kissing, and reminiscing and brushing tears from their cheeks, as they whispered 'we're family... always have been, always will be.......'

Not ONE mention of the woman who created it all, and gave them the lives they have now. In fact many people were interviewed, including Ralph Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter, Gary Oldman, Robbie Coltrane, Bonnie wright, Alfred Enoch, Toby Jones, Mark Williams, Jason Isaacs, etc. Not ONE of them mentioned JK Rowling.

All we got featuring JK, was two 10 to 15 second clips of footage from an interview she did 3 years ago. The narrator mentioned her ONCE! That's it! None of the 'stars' mentioned her, or thanked her for ANYthing. As I said, Harry Potter exists because of HER. Yet she was not deemed worthy of a mention or a thank you.

AIBU to think it's sad and also bloody infuriating, that she has been blanked in this manner? IMO, it's clearly because of the accusations of her being 'transphobic,' (which I don't think she is frankly,) and I am dismayed and somewhat disgusted, that these young people whose careers exist because of JK Rowling, are now treating her like a pariah.

I am a huge fan of Harry Potter, both the books and the films, and this has sullied it all for me now.

’Fickle, disloyal weaklings' is an excellent description of these young people who have betrayed JK Rowling and turned their back on her. All in the name of appearing 'woke' and PC, and to appease their woke, social-justice-warrior followers on Twitter...

Right, so you aren’t actually asking AIBU really. You just want to spout this kind of bullshit.

She said something they don’t agree with and have distanced themselves from her. But you’ve decided they don’t really mean it, they’re just pretending and throw “woke” in there for good measure because you don’t really have an argument.

Perhaps people could say the same about people who have turned their back on the cast, who they have enjoyed watching for decades in the movies, who worked really hard on them, in order to appear to be “virtue signalling”.

Goblins were short and fair-skinned, as they spent very little time outside. They had very long fingers and feet, dome-shaped heads and were slightly larger than house-elves. Griphook, one of the hundreds of goblins working at Gringotts, had a bald head, pointed nose, and pointed ears. Some had dark, slanted eyes, and some goblins even wore pointed hats.

Are you saying you read this description and think 'yep, Jewish'? Confused

Or what other group do you think she is describing here?

Grapewrath · 08/01/2022 18:47

Also have a lot of respect for Jk Rowling for holding her line.
Agree with comments about Emma Watson she is intensely irritating

GnomeyGnome · 08/01/2022 18:48

That's not true OP. She was mentioned multiple times and not just by a narrator. Evanna Lynch talked about how she became a pen pal of sorts with her when she was younger. Robbie Coltrane talked about how she made people fall in love with reading again. There were multiple mentions of her as "Jo".
I would have loved to have seen her take part but if reports are true, it was her decision.

SkaterChick · 08/01/2022 18:49

If you read the links do have her tweets in the article's.. her actual words.

There's this. Saying that every who menstruates is a women? No they're not.
Trans men are men, and they might menstruate too.

If you menstruate you are a woman.

You can identify however you want, you can call yourself whatever you want, present to the world in whatever way you wish.

But only women have periods.

RufustheFloralmissingreindeer · 08/01/2022 18:52

Everyone who menstruates is female

SkaterChick · 08/01/2022 18:52

Her response when she was called out for being transphobic.
She supported someone who was sacked for saying tweeting that people cannot change their biological sex.
Regardless of whether that person had their ruling in courts over turned she still supported them and their beliefs.

But you can't change your biological sex.

She shouldn't have been so transphobic then, should she.
Please back this up. Because no one ever seems to and everything I've seen from her hasn't been transphobic but instead recognising women and the need to protect biological women.

Exactly what is transphobic about stating the very basic and simple fact that we cannot change our biological sex? We can change how we present to the world, men can wear dresses, women can wear traditional men's clothes. Biologically they are still men and women.
CurbsideProphet · 08/01/2022 18:56

But people cannot change biological sex. Bob can call himself Mary but he still doesn't actually become a biological woman.

It's like real life emperor's new clothes.

Sir Robert Winston, highly esteemed doctor and reproductive expert, has said on national TV that you cannot change sex.

Is he a massive transphobe too?

Waitwhat23 · 08/01/2022 18:58

The Maya Forstater case was upheld after appeal. The fact that human beings cannot change sex has had to classified as a 'protected belief' under the Equality Act 2010 and so now women cannot be forced out of employment for stating biological facts.

Human beings are a dimorphic species - it is not possible for human beings to change sex. This is not a value judgement, simply a fact.

anon12345678901 · 08/01/2022 18:59

@CalishataFolkart and no where in that shows that it is anti-Semitic. In fact if Jewish is the first thing that pops in your head when you read that, I'd suggest it's yourself whose anti-Semitic.

@ninnynonny

Emma 'What shall I call myself today - loooooook at me' Wokeson should really perhaps give all her earnings back if she has decided she hates the person who literally gave her the fame she has now, so much
Exactly. I wonder what next passing bandwagon Emma Watson will jump on in order to keep herself in the public eye? God knows her acting skills aren't going to keep her there.
RuggerHug · 08/01/2022 19:01

If you've gone through menopause, have a hysterectomy, are intersex, or any other reason you don't menstruate are you allowed decide what to call yourself or do you have to submit it to a committee to decide what they want for you? If it's all so clear cut black and white.

TheOriginalEmu · 08/01/2022 19:02

They owe her no loyalty. No one does. Lots of people careers were made by people who since have shown themselves in an unpopular light, fans of the movies particularly aren’t indebted to her. She wrote her books and gets handsomely rewarded any time anything to do with it is on tv. That’s all she is ‘owed’ calling people disloyal to s writer who wrote some books 20 years ago is weird.

Crowdfundingforcake · 08/01/2022 19:02

People cannot change their biological sex. That's not transphobic, that's just cold hard fact. Once we start purporting things are true just because we want them to be, or say them to be, the world falls apart in quite a terrifying way.

JKR has never said anything remotely transphobic. She has been subject to the most heinous abuse. She stands up for women and girls in a way, sadly, very few others are prepared to.

Absolutely. They can wear all the lipstick they want, but they can never biologically be a woman.

Not all women menstruate. Everyone who menstruates is a woman biologically. Whether you present yourself in that way or not.
