To ask what the hell to do about my leaking arse!

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:25

Exactly as the title says. Very crass but it is a literal pain in my arse and I’m starting to feel very unwell.

Backstory: I have inflammatory bowel disease and have had my large intestine removed. I had a stoma for 10 months and then a reversal surgery joining my small intestine to my rectum. I have mild proctitis left in my rectum.

A week ago, my anus started itching and leaking fluid. It has been getting worse and worse to the point I am leaking through my underwear to my clothes, I am uncomfortably wet all of the time and it is so painful to go to the toilet that I almost vomit from the pain and am just living by having cold baths.

The leaking is mucous, I’ve developed wounds on my bum cheeks from the dampness, and it is mixed with blood and green pus.

I developed abdominal pain with it two days ago so went to A&E who were useless, have referred me to gastro (no idea how long that will take), and told me my infection markers are raised so gave me antibiotics. Nothing else.

Today I have been on off sleeping and am feeling feverish and unwell in myself. When I was at A&E my heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure was high, but they said they weren’t concerned.

I am leaking massively to the point it’s not even just damp it is like water is pouring out of me.

I don’t want to waste another 8 hours in A&E to be sent home, but I’m feeling unwell in myself now, I can’t go to the toilet properly because it absolutely kills.

What do I do?!

You need to go back to A&E immediately because you are massively at risk of sepsis. I’m sorry, it’s shit. But you do need to go straight away

Suffolkpunch345 · 03/01/2022 22:28

Go back to A&E or get your GP to refer you in.

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:29

Jesus op..I'm so sorry, that is disgraceful!!
Please do go back. Keep going back. Keep putting yourself first. I'm sorry they have not done much for you, keep going. Flowers

MsAgnesDiPesto · 03/01/2022 22:29

Disclaimer: I have no medical qualifications.

I would ring 111 and tell them what's happened (don't play it down, be frank about the severity) and that you have a fever and other signs of an infection. If they want you to go to A&E - which I would expect - then they will book you in so with any luck, you don't have the same wait.

Good luck and I hope you're feeling better soon, having had the help you need.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 03/01/2022 22:30

Go back to A and E right now.

LunaTheCat · 03/01/2022 22:30

Go back to A and E or urgent or contact your GP straight away.

Floralnomad · 03/01/2022 22:30

You need to ring the OOH GP and get them to refer you in , failing that go back to A&E , this needs dealing with ASAP .

LuaDipa · 03/01/2022 22:32

Do you not have a nominated consultant that you can contact directly?

Rexthesnail · 03/01/2022 22:32

Definitely go back to A&E

trickyex · 03/01/2022 22:33

Blimey OP thats grim for you.
I agree call 101 now. You need to be seen/treated asap.

OfCourseIDontMind · 03/01/2022 22:33

OMG is this real? Why would you need to post this instead of actually finding medical attention?
If this is real, please, please go to the hospital.
I hope you are ok.

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:33

My surgical team discharged me a while ago so I no longer have a consultant. I have been ‘referred’ to gastro multiple times but nothing has ever come of it.

Somebodylikeyew · 03/01/2022 22:34

Your condition has worsened despite the ABs, you need to be seen again in A&E, sooner rather than later x

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:34

Yes this is real. I’m posting because I don’t know what the hell to do when they are fobbing me off. I have a picture of what is happening, is it too graphic to post?

OP posts:
Hankunamatata · 03/01/2022 22:34

Have you contacted your consultant? Do you have specialist nurse for follow up appintments? Go to a&e

Sideswiped · 03/01/2022 22:34

Do you have an IBD or stoma Nurse? If you do, ask for help urgently.
If not, tell your GP that you can't live like this. I can see you can't from your post, but DEMAND that they help.
Good luck. Thanks

ElleGettingBetter · 03/01/2022 22:34

You need to be seen tonight. Please go back to A&E

Bagelsandbrie · 03/01/2022 22:35

I think you’d be justified to ring 999 in this situation. Sounds like sepsis setting in.

GreenSeaGlass · 03/01/2022 22:35

I’m sorry you’re so unwell. You really do need to go back to A&E.

Notimeforaname · 03/01/2022 22:36

Say just that op ''I'm worried its sepsis'' and get to A+E or call for emergency.

OfCourseIDontMind · 03/01/2022 22:36

@Bagelsandbrie

I think you’d be justified to ring 999 in this situation. Sounds like sepsis setting in.
YES! THIS!
summerwedding · 03/01/2022 22:36

Actually can't believe they'd send you home with that going on ! I'd be worried about sepsis. Call 111

justasking111 · 03/01/2022 22:37

Please hospital now

Suzanne999 · 03/01/2022 22:38

Ring 111. They’ll tell you to go to hospital but hopefully will book you in somehow so you’re not kept waiting too long.
Do you have a consultant for your IBD? Can you email his/her secretary , as well as going to hospital not instead of.

It sounds horrible for you. Really does need treating as an urgency, I hope you get some help and it all improves soon.

WingingItSince1973 · 03/01/2022 22:38

Not a medical person here but please please go back this evening! It sounds absolutely awful and you run the risk of a worse infection. So sorry OP please seek medical advice tonight xx
