To ask what the hell to do about my leaking arse!

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:25

Exactly as the title says. Very crass but it is a literal pain in my arse and I’m starting to feel very unwell.

Backstory: I have inflammatory bowel disease and have had my large intestine removed. I had a stoma for 10 months and then a reversal surgery joining my small intestine to my rectum. I have mild proctitis left in my rectum.

A week ago, my anus started itching and leaking fluid. It has been getting worse and worse to the point I am leaking through my underwear to my clothes, I am uncomfortably wet all of the time and it is so painful to go to the toilet that I almost vomit from the pain and am just living by having cold baths.

The leaking is mucous, I’ve developed wounds on my bum cheeks from the dampness, and it is mixed with blood and green pus.

I developed abdominal pain with it two days ago so went to A&E who were useless, have referred me to gastro (no idea how long that will take), and told me my infection markers are raised so gave me antibiotics. Nothing else.

Today I have been on off sleeping and am feeling feverish and unwell in myself. When I was at A&E my heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure was high, but they said they weren’t concerned.

I am leaking massively to the point it’s not even just damp it is like water is pouring out of me.

I don’t want to waste another 8 hours in A&E to be sent home, but I’m feeling unwell in myself now, I can’t go to the toilet properly because it absolutely kills.

What do I do?!

Op, please take it easy, pack a hospital bag etc etc. Fingers crossed it works out for you

OddBoots · 03/01/2022 22:49

I am glad you have help coming. My brother has been through much the same so I really do sympathise. It is so easy for infection to set in around there so it should be taken seriously.

OfCourseIDontMind · 03/01/2022 22:50

Please let us know that you're getting medical attention.

Doyoumind · 03/01/2022 22:50

Ring an ambulance. You can't just get yourself to A&E when you are so ill and you'll probably get better treatment.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 03/01/2022 22:51

That sounds dreadful OP - hope the ambulance gets to you soon.

GreenClock · 03/01/2022 22:51

Good luck OP. I really hope that you won’t be fobbed off and sent home later.

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:52

I haven’t got anyone else to take me otherwise I would and I can’t afford a taxi because the hospital I need to go to is quite far away, I don’t have the money in my account for both trips, only one back home. My partner drives but has been taking codeine due to a gum infection, so can’t take me

I agree with the others, A&E

To help with the symptoms, sudocream (after getting yourself clean) and an incontinence pad - the latter will at least save your clothes/furniture.

LoveGoldberg · 03/01/2022 22:52

Are you with someone while you wait for the ambulance? Pack yourself a few pairs or comfortable bottoms incase you need to get changed.

NashvilleQueen · 03/01/2022 22:52

Thank goodness you are seeking urgent treatment. It sounds horrendous. Sepsis alarm bells rang with me from your description so I'm relieved you've phoned for an ambulance. All the best OP. I hope you're seen soon.

LoveGoldberg · 03/01/2022 22:53

Also would it be more comfortable to sit in a shallow bath for a while or would that make it worse?

WingingItSince1973 · 03/01/2022 22:54

@Russell19

I agree you need medical treatment but calling 999 isn't about 'getting seen quicker' The NHS is on its knees, if you can get someone to take you to A&E you should, instead of using an ambulance as a means to be 'seen quicker'. Doesn't always work like that anyway. You'll be triaged at A&E and if deemed necessary you'll be seen quickly.

Have you not read the OPS post? It's sounding like sepsis which you can't mess about with. At least when paramedics arrive she will have professionals with her and be assessed at home. They may feel she needs emergency treatment and get seen sooner than later. A&E is accident and emergency which this sounds like an emergency. All the best OP xxx

spiderlight · 03/01/2022 22:54

Oh, you poor thing! I have IBD too but I have a direct line to call a nurse specialist if I have problems. I hope you manage to see your consultant tomorrow.

FredJonesPt2 · 03/01/2022 22:54

Fingers crossed you get seen and properly treated soon x

SimpsonsXmasBoogie · 03/01/2022 22:55

Your condition has worsened so of course it's appropriate to go back to A&E. If you can't find anyone to drive you then phone an ambulance.

I'm sorry you're going through this OP, it sounds horrible.

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 03/01/2022 22:56

Bless you, best of luck- how awful you are going through this. Hope you are seen soon

jo55ie · 03/01/2022 22:57

It may be better to go in the ambulance... otherwise you could just be waiting in the waiting area in a&e. In our area you get prioritised if you're in ambulance.
Be strong and don't get fobbed off... we all totally support you 🙏

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:57

My whole body just feels really sensitive to the touch and the pain is getting worse. Just keeping an eye out and hopefully they come soon but I do understand of course that there will be bigger priorities. Thanks for your well wishes everyone.

ThesecondLEM · 03/01/2022 22:57

Do you have the "wait less" app. It will tell you the waiting times in your local OOH /walk in/A&E. It will help you gauge if you should hang on.

At least at home you are 'comfortable' with your condition I would fing waiting in A&E extremely uncomfortable.

Saying that, do not hesitate to call 111 if your condition worsens, or 999 .

Hoping you get seen and treated soon xx

hedgehogger1 · 03/01/2022 22:57

Sounds horrific. I hope you get seen very quickly.

HighlandCowbag · 03/01/2022 22:58

Oh christ OP you poor thing and your poor bum. I hope you get sorted quickly Flowers.

cloudrunner · 03/01/2022 22:58

OP, don't let them discharge you. Sepsis or a possible breakdown of the join are incredibly serious and in no normal circumstances should you be producing pus. You need to be seen ASAP by a consultant who understands the potential danger. Good luck and please let us know.

Dontjudgeme101 · 03/01/2022 22:58

I hope the ambulance comes soon. 💐💐💐💐

longcoffeebreak · 03/01/2022 22:59

This is terrible hope the ambulance turns up soon

LadyGAgain · 03/01/2022 22:59

Who did your original surgery? I'd get straight in touch with them if they're still around. So sorry for your pain and distress. That's so sad and very painful.
