To ask what the hell to do about my leaking arse!

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:25

Exactly as the title says. Very crass but it is a literal pain in my arse and I’m starting to feel very unwell.

Backstory: I have inflammatory bowel disease and have had my large intestine removed. I had a stoma for 10 months and then a reversal surgery joining my small intestine to my rectum. I have mild proctitis left in my rectum.

A week ago, my anus started itching and leaking fluid. It has been getting worse and worse to the point I am leaking through my underwear to my clothes, I am uncomfortably wet all of the time and it is so painful to go to the toilet that I almost vomit from the pain and am just living by having cold baths.

The leaking is mucous, I’ve developed wounds on my bum cheeks from the dampness, and it is mixed with blood and green pus.

I developed abdominal pain with it two days ago so went to A&E who were useless, have referred me to gastro (no idea how long that will take), and told me my infection markers are raised so gave me antibiotics. Nothing else.

Today I have been on off sleeping and am feeling feverish and unwell in myself. When I was at A&E my heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure was high, but they said they weren’t concerned.

I am leaking massively to the point it’s not even just damp it is like water is pouring out of me.

I don’t want to waste another 8 hours in A&E to be sent home, but I’m feeling unwell in myself now, I can’t go to the toilet properly because it absolutely kills.

What do I do?!

Op do you mind me asking what area you’re In? I know the chances are extremely slim but if you were local to me I’d drive you! My mum has been through very similar so I really hope you can get sorted and all is ok!

JSL52 · 03/01/2022 23:35

@100problems

I'd take 2 hours. The point is you'll be seen faster.

Suit up OP, time to use your Big Voice.

Not necessarily, she'll be triaged on arrival. Going by ambulance doesn't always put you to the front of the queue.
Rexthesnail · 03/01/2022 23:36

Well done for calling them back. I really hope they get to you soon. Have you packed some bits and charged your phone? Is there anything we can do to help? Distraction maybe?

FiloPasty · 03/01/2022 23:36

I’m so sorry you’re so ill, I hope that the ambulance arrives soon but am here to handhold as it’s getting late but I can’t sleep as usual

Floralnomad · 03/01/2022 23:36

@AnotherMansCause , the OPs partner will know whether he’s fit to drive and can make that assessment. I was also on the maximum prescription for codeine for a while and could drive and work with no issues - everyone’s different .

Chickydoo · 03/01/2022 23:37

Wishing you all the best.
I hope the ambulance comes soon. Thanks

VaccineSticker · 03/01/2022 23:37

Post it on Facebook ask if anyone can take you to hospital. Do it x

MissM2912 · 03/01/2022 23:38

Phone the ambulance again- or get your partner to and tell them you are really going down hill.

Moolia · 03/01/2022 23:39

Hope they get back to you soon. Please don't downplay it, say you are worried about sepsis.

Cakeofdoom · 03/01/2022 23:40

Is the NHS Responders scheme in your area ? Volunteers on a call out system, it was set up for Covid and getting peoples shopping and meds etc...should be a FB group , can your partner have a look ? There may be a volunteer who could get you to hospital more quickly than the ambulance

lolly07766 · 03/01/2022 23:40

I'd drive you too Op if you were in my area. Fb maybe a good shout, I'm sure someone would be more than willing to help x

JorahFriendZone · 03/01/2022 23:41

Ring an ambulance, it’s definitely justified - you need to be seen asap. When did you last pass any urine? How’s your pulse and temperature?

Once at the hospital and they’re sorting you out please ask if you can have some Medihoney prescribed for the skin on your bottom, ask for the tube not the sachets. Drs tend to not like prescribing it much as it’s expensive, but it does wonders. It’s a barrier cream and is good for moisture damage, which it sounds like you have. Wounds on the bum can be hard to dress effectively, so the cream should at least help along with making sure you’re repositioning and relieving the pressure from your bum too, so lying on your side and switching positions etc.

I really hope you get to hospital and things can be sorted out for you quickly.

HemanOrSheRa · 03/01/2022 23:41

Really, I think you should sit tight and wait to be triaged. Don't be getting into taxis.
Absolutely ring back again and if able, can your partner be with you just in case they need to call for you? This is what the emergency services are for love.

DracarysThis · 03/01/2022 23:43

It is really important to both say you think you have sepsis to them - then make sure they screen you for it. Sepsis almost killed me last year and kills thousands annually, so whilst it is scary, you can be treated in time. Flowers

cherrytree63 · 03/01/2022 23:43

Sounds so painful, really hope you get some relief soon.
I have hallucinations on codeine, definitely wouldn't be safe to drive.

CreamFirstThenJamOnTop · 03/01/2022 23:43

I hope you hear back soon.
If you happen to be in the Plymouth area then message me for a lift.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 03/01/2022 23:44

Do you have a pouch op?
A family member had a similar / same op due to colitis ((large intestine removed, stoma for a few months then some jiggerypokery with her small intestine to make an opening))

It's quite a rare op apparently, when my family member had a problem with hers recently there was quite a bit of excitement because the doctors and nurses hadnt seen one before...... Is your local hospital the one that carried out the op?

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 03/01/2022 23:46

And advising someone to ask a person who's doped up on Codeine to drive is just bloody stupid.😳

AnotherMansCause · 03/01/2022 23:47

I know, that's my point. The OP had already said that her partner was on codeine for an infection & consequently wasn't able to drive, but was then told that he would be ok to drive. I was merely pointing out that everyone is different & that stating he would be ok to drive "unless he'd taken an overdose of codeine" was obviously not reasonable advice.

SecretDoor · 03/01/2022 23:47

Sounds like you may have a Perianal abscess or some sort of fistula from the IBD
You need to be seen by the on-call surgical team for an assessment

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 23:47

I don’t have the J Pouch I have the ileorectal anastomosis which is where my small intestine is joined to my rectum to allow me to go to the toilet ‘normally’. Worst decision I ever made I wish I still had a stoma

OP posts:
MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 03/01/2022 23:49

It sounds horrendous op, I hope you get some help and answers soon.

warmeduppizza · 03/01/2022 23:49

Best of luck OP, I hope you get help soon.

Normski67 · 03/01/2022 23:49

Hi, I have IBD and I’ve only read your posts, but you absolutely must go back to hospital. I’d be worried about an internal infection. I think this is a medical emergency and you are justified in calling an ambulance.

cloudrunner · 03/01/2022 23:49

I'm so sorry OP. Is there still no ETA?
