To ask what the hell to do about my leaking arse!

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:25

Exactly as the title says. Very crass but it is a literal pain in my arse and I’m starting to feel very unwell.

Backstory: I have inflammatory bowel disease and have had my large intestine removed. I had a stoma for 10 months and then a reversal surgery joining my small intestine to my rectum. I have mild proctitis left in my rectum.

A week ago, my anus started itching and leaking fluid. It has been getting worse and worse to the point I am leaking through my underwear to my clothes, I am uncomfortably wet all of the time and it is so painful to go to the toilet that I almost vomit from the pain and am just living by having cold baths.

The leaking is mucous, I’ve developed wounds on my bum cheeks from the dampness, and it is mixed with blood and green pus.

I developed abdominal pain with it two days ago so went to A&E who were useless, have referred me to gastro (no idea how long that will take), and told me my infection markers are raised so gave me antibiotics. Nothing else.

Today I have been on off sleeping and am feeling feverish and unwell in myself. When I was at A&E my heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure was high, but they said they weren’t concerned.

I am leaking massively to the point it’s not even just damp it is like water is pouring out of me.

I don’t want to waste another 8 hours in A&E to be sent home, but I’m feeling unwell in myself now, I can’t go to the toilet properly because it absolutely kills.

What do I do?!

Really hope you're seen to soon, darling. Sounds absolutely awful. Keep persisting and don't take no for an answer x

me4real · 03/01/2022 23:19

I hope you get the help you need soon. Get well soon Flowers

Luredbyapomegranate · 03/01/2022 23:19

So sorry to hear this, hope the ambulance comes soon. I honestly think you need to be admitted to the gastro medical ward till they sort you out. Can your partner come with you?

SonicBroom · 03/01/2022 23:21

Do you have any neighbours who can drive you to A&E or lend you money for a taxi if you feel the wait is too long? I’m sure anyone who can help would drop everything to.

Do you have a bag packed with a few things eg charger, drinks, slippers / flip flops etc ready to go?

amusedbush · 03/01/2022 23:21

It's a disgrace that you were sent away in this condition, they really need to take this seriously. My mum had sepsis a few years ago and, not trying to scare you, she went downhill very quickly. She had a UTI one day and that night she woke my dad up, hallucinating and talking nonsense. She was blue-lighted to hospital immediately.

I hope you are seen before you get any worse Flowers

Floralnomad · 03/01/2022 23:21

Get your partner to drive you in , unless he’s taken an overdose of codeine he should be fine to drive .

AnotherMansCause · 03/01/2022 23:22

OP, when they call back, please make sure you clearly state that you are concerned about the risk of sepsis in the condition you're in.

Cakeofdoom · 03/01/2022 23:22

You poor thing, this sounds horrendous. Is there a neighbour that could drive you in ? Is there anyway at all your partner can get you there ? I get the codeine thing, I'm almost unconscious if I take it so if he is sedated by it, it would be very unwise. I'm really concerned for you.

Tinsellittis · 03/01/2022 23:22

@Bagelsandbrie

I think you’d be justified to ring 999 in this situation. Sounds like sepsis setting in.
I would do this good luck OP
Runningwithoutstopping · 03/01/2022 23:23

Your first port of call is to seek medical advice.
after that contact Crohns and Colitis UK they have a helpline and will support you. You should already be on the books of a gastro and if you aren't that seems negligent to me. I would think the surgical team should of referred you. If they didn't I think they massively dropped the ball.
I hope you get the care and support you need

Colouringaddict · 03/01/2022 23:23

Hope you are seen really quickly and are soon on the mend xx

GreenFridays · 03/01/2022 23:23

Hi OP. Mine was nothing compared to yours, but after a stoma reversal, I struggled with leaking mucous until I cut out diary, which was never an issue before I had a stoma (not suggesting you do that, just that I have an idea of what you mean about mucous leaking out).

I remember my bum being so sore from all the wiping, and it wasn’t comfortable at all. I really really hope you get the help you need and it’s treated.

user1493494961 · 03/01/2022 23:23

Sending best wishes.

changingstages · 03/01/2022 23:23

Gosh that sound so miserable - I really hope they can help you.

HemanOrSheRa · 03/01/2022 23:27

Absolutely you need to speak to a clinician and be triaged. If they don't ring back soon then you must ring back. We've gone through similar with DP and to me it seems like you may have an abscess and a fistula has formed.

gah2teenagers · 03/01/2022 23:27

@IncessantNameChanger

See if your partner can pack you a small bag just in case.

Book
Charger
Power bank
PJ and underwear
Change if clothes
Wash bag
Some change

I was taken in by ambulance and was admitted for five days with no visitors due to lockdown. At least any wait will be more bearable

And wet wipes. And dont be fobbed off. So sorry you are having to go through this.
PriamFarrl · 03/01/2022 23:27

Is there a neighbour who could drive you?

AnotherMansCause · 03/01/2022 23:28

@Floralnomad

Get your partner to drive you in , unless he’s taken an overdose of codeine he should be fine to drive .
Dangerous advice. Depending on the dosage he's on, he may be unfit to drive. I used to take codeine on prescription, if I took the full dose I felt quite intoxicated, I certainly couldn't have driven anywhere.
Somebodylikeyew · 03/01/2022 23:31

Is your partner really unable to drive? Could you ask a neighbour?

NewPositiveYear · 03/01/2022 23:31

I came to say, call an ambulance but I see you have. I hope they take you seriously this time

Excited101 · 03/01/2022 23:32

Thinking of you op, hope you get treated soon.

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 23:33

Yes he’s in too much pain to drive. I have followed up again because the pain has moved to my back as well as my tummy, I’m waiting on a clinician to call me back but it could be another hour’s wait. I don’t feel well enough to get in a taxi.

Best wishes OP. This sounds potentially very serious. I can’t believe they sent you home!

Phyllis321 · 03/01/2022 23:35

Oh bless you

DartmoorChef · 03/01/2022 23:35

Are you on Facebook? Ask if anyone is around who can take you. It's certainly something I would do for anyone in your situation. It sounds to me like you have a serious infection and you need to get to hospital as quickly as possible
