To ask what the hell to do about my leaking arse!

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:25

Exactly as the title says. Very crass but it is a literal pain in my arse and I’m starting to feel very unwell.

Backstory: I have inflammatory bowel disease and have had my large intestine removed. I had a stoma for 10 months and then a reversal surgery joining my small intestine to my rectum. I have mild proctitis left in my rectum.

A week ago, my anus started itching and leaking fluid. It has been getting worse and worse to the point I am leaking through my underwear to my clothes, I am uncomfortably wet all of the time and it is so painful to go to the toilet that I almost vomit from the pain and am just living by having cold baths.

The leaking is mucous, I’ve developed wounds on my bum cheeks from the dampness, and it is mixed with blood and green pus.

I developed abdominal pain with it two days ago so went to A&E who were useless, have referred me to gastro (no idea how long that will take), and told me my infection markers are raised so gave me antibiotics. Nothing else.

Today I have been on off sleeping and am feeling feverish and unwell in myself. When I was at A&E my heart rate was 120 and my blood pressure was high, but they said they weren’t concerned.

I am leaking massively to the point it’s not even just damp it is like water is pouring out of me.

I don’t want to waste another 8 hours in A&E to be sent home, but I’m feeling unwell in myself now, I can’t go to the toilet properly because it absolutely kills.

What do I do?!

@Bagelsandbrie

I think you’d be justified to ring 999 in this situation. Sounds like sepsis setting in.
Yes please get urgent help
Bellsandsnow · 03/01/2022 22:39

Please get seen asap. Hope you get it sorted soon. Sounds horrid.

Newbabycousin · 03/01/2022 22:39

My first thought was sepsis too.

londonrach · 03/01/2022 22:39

Sorry op sounds awful.. please please return to a and e and tell them what you put here x

londonrach · 03/01/2022 22:40

Agree sounds like septis but sounds vvv uncomfortable x

alittlebitembarrassing · 03/01/2022 22:40

@OfCourseIDontMind do try really much harder with those empathy pills.

OP, I think you should go to A&E, do you have someone that can advocate for you? When DM was rebuffed no less than 3 times by A&E recently Dsis stood her ground until she was admitted.

It sounds like the antibiotics, whilst they might be right for infection, need to be via IV.

WhatTheWhoTheWhatThe · 03/01/2022 22:40

Gosh this sounds horrific. Please go to a&e

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2022 22:41

Yes. Absolutely to A&E. You sound very unwell.

GrowThroughWhatYouGoThrough · 03/01/2022 22:42

A&e it sounds very much like sepsis

100problems · 03/01/2022 22:42

I'd take 2 hours. The point is you'll be seen faster.

Suit up OP, time to use your Big Voice.

Toddlerteaplease · 03/01/2022 22:43

This is the first thread I've ever read where everyone is unanimous In the OP going to A&E.

LakieLady · 03/01/2022 22:44

This sounds utterly dreadful, OP, you have my sympathy.

I hope the wait isn't too long and that they manage to get you sorted.

pansypotter123 · 03/01/2022 22:44

Can you afford to wait for two hours though? Is the bleeding getting any worse? Can you get a lift to the hospital immediately?

trickyex · 03/01/2022 22:45

Can anyone go with you OP? Sounds like you need some support, though I cant imagine you being fobbed off again.
I hope the ambulance gets to you sooner.

RedSoloCup · 03/01/2022 22:45

Sounds horrible OP hope you get it sorted

TokyoSushi · 03/01/2022 22:45

Don't know but make sure you ring them back ASAP if you get any worse. Have you got anyone at home with you?
100problems · 03/01/2022 22:46

@Toddlerteaplease me too. Is there anyone reading this that can possibly think this woman has been treated appropriately?

Disclaimer I Know as well as anyone the NHS is buckling, but who would turn away someone in such a bloody state.

OP, keep talking on here and that 2 hours will go quickly.

Workinghardeveryday · 03/01/2022 22:46

This must be so awful for you. Get them told!! They should not leave you this way. You should be admitted and have a specialist look at you.

I hope you feel better really soon x

FrankiesCheeseTruckle · 03/01/2022 22:47

@alittlebitembarrassing

Standard response, could be 2 hours, could be half an hour could be several hours. And No, not necessarily quicker either. You'll be triaged exactly the same wether you make your own way or go by ambulance.

I'm saying this as a paramedic, my last job I attended this morning at 5am was from 8:30 last night. And that was for ?stroke symptoms.

Indoctro · 03/01/2022 22:47

Point blank refuse to leave OP insist they admit and you get seen by gastro tomorrow

Honestly I wouldn't leave .

ChrimboGateauxCatto · 03/01/2022 22:47

Proshield.cream or similar on the skin surrounding will protect from leakage. You need your Dr to get District nurses on the case

Nibblypiggotonabus · 03/01/2022 22:48

Appalling they they have left you suffering in such a way. Go back to A&E immediately and tell them to start taking this seriously. It's often times like this that the loudest get listened to because they become such a pain. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with all that, sounds dreadful and I hope you feel better soon.

Russell19 · 03/01/2022 22:48

I agree you need medical treatment but calling 999 isn't about 'getting seen quicker'
The NHS is on its knees, if you can get someone to take you to A&E you should, instead of using an ambulance as a means to be 'seen quicker'. Doesn't always work like that anyway. You'll be triaged at A&E and if deemed necessary you'll be seen quickly.
