Because if you voted Leave you are too stupid to be in business and don't deserve my sympathy.

I’m as remain as they come; I went in all the London marches and campaigned throughout. I’d now like to rejoin the EU
However I think you’re behaving like an arse here.
Do you realise how much your smug moral certainty turns people off?

^This. Also OP YABU because the question is often asked.

Ah ,yes the leave voters ,are thick ,ignorant ,stance again .

Pedalpushers · 22/12/2021 11:10

People are allowed to be wrong about things.

JuergenSchwarzwald · 22/12/2021 11:11

I think most people in the fishing industry voted to leave, but I suspect it was more balanced in farming - I think a lot of them realised how many subsidies they received from the EU.

Unlike the people from Cornwall (Truro being the only exception).

Not sure about being smug, if you voted to leave, and don't now like the outcome, you can't really moan. That said, I don't think anyone predicted the government would go down such a hard Brexit line before the referendum result.

Kendodd · 22/12/2021 11:12

Me too, but that's not happening, Leave voters have burned our bridges. They have also shown complete disregard for the peace in NI, I have zero sympathy for them if they're now suffering.

Because if you voted Leave you are too stupid to be in business and don't deserve my sympathy.

The vote was five and a half years ago, people are allowed to change their minds and realise that this isn't actually what they wanted.

Clinging to the idea of all Leave voters being thick racists only serves to deepen the divisions in our society when what we should be focusing on right now is moving forwards with what we've got.

Are they asking for your sympathy?

Also, you should try getting over it. I have yet to see a Brexit-related thread you haven’t been all over, or started yourself.

birdglasspen · 22/12/2021 11:25

I don’t have much sympathy for my DH fisherman, he will say it wasn’t what they voted for and they were promised things which never happened. However it was a chance to change and help their industry so they took it.... they had more valid reasons for voting leave than plenty other people

Aprilx · 22/12/2021 11:26

Do you not believe in the principle of the secret ballot?

ssd · 22/12/2021 11:28

I think the problem is, is that a lot of fishermen and farmers voted to leave as they thought it was in their best interests. Now they are finding it isn't they are complaining. So i voted yanbu, because this is my perception of it all.

Kendodd · 22/12/2021 11:34

The vote was five and a half years ago, people are allowed to change their minds and realise that this isn't actually what they wanted.

They had multiple opportunities to change their minds, they didn't. Brexit could have been stopped if they did. Instead they voted repeatedly and determinedly to 'Get Brexit Done '. The consequences of Brexit were absolutely obvious and spelled out repeatedly, in their own words they 'knew what they voted for'.

I don’t agree with this statement, however whenever I see fishermen complaining about the effects of brexit I do think “well what did you think would happen? Did you think Johnson, Gove et al actually had your best interests at heart??”

Agree.
JingsMahBucket · 22/12/2021 11:46

From the article:

Jane Sandell from UK Fisheries, which claimed Kirkella supplied between 8-12% of all fish sold in UK fish and chip shops, said the latest deal had left the company "more than disappointed".

Most of that chip shop fish is absolute shit quality anyway so honestly, this is no great loss if they stop trading.

And yes, @Kendodd I completely agree with you. The outcome was obvious to anyone who wasn’t dazzled by a lying bus slogan. I don’t have much sympathy either.

Porcupineintherough · 22/12/2021 11:50

I cant believe anyone would have much sympathy for either farmers or fishermen regarding Brexit tbh. I mean, I dont blame them for being upset, but sympathy for what they've brought down on their own heads? No.

TrishM80 · 22/12/2021 11:52

I see your point but your anger should be aimed at Nigel Farage and Kate Hoey and Michael Gove and Jacob Rees Mogg and all the other Brexit conmen who couldn't give a shit about the fishing industry but shamelessly used it as an emotional football in the referendum, then ditched it as soon as they got the result they wanted.

It was a referendum.

Saying voting one way was "thick" and the other "clever" - is that really the level of sophistication in your argument?

And yet you are calling others thick? YABVU.

Leave voters aren't angry with them though, they only seem to be angry with remainers for pointing out the consequences of their vote. I see no anger from them directed towards the liars who sold them brexit. Admittedly the brexit liars are still massaging egos by pretending brexit was a clever thing to vote for and it's all the nasty EU fault, whereas remainers are not.

Pumperthepumper · 22/12/2021 12:04

I will always be angry about Brexit - we were all fed the same lies, if you chose to believe them then that’s on you. Brexit showed a really horrible side to Britain.

Chasingaftermidnight · 22/12/2021 12:11

People are allowed to be wrong about things.

Of course they are. But I’ve less sympathy for people who are wrong because they chose to disregard clear advice from experts about the consequences of their actions.

If you had a broken leg and your doctor advised you that it needed to be reset and plastered and you decided to disregard their doctor’s advice because you think you know better, you’re of course allowed to be wrong. But you are also an absolute crashing idiot.
