To ditch the Daily Mail

Realised that reading all the crap in DM was just depressing me. Finally ditched it. Will use Sky news for factual updates. Feel so much better already. A few years ago I ditched East Enders - similarly depressing.

OP posts:
Musmerian · 21/12/2021 09:16

It’s a dreadful paper that peddles lies and hatred - so no.

BitterTits · 21/12/2021 09:17

YABU to ever have read it! YANBU at all to ditch it.

Ostryga · 21/12/2021 09:19

I read all the papers to get opinions from each view. And to see how things are reported and the spin put on them. It’s good to keep up to date with how people will perceive certain things I think.

RoastedParsnips · 21/12/2021 09:21

YANBU.
It's dreadful, half the articles contradict themselves! Confused Should be shut down I'd rather read the sun and that says a lot. Grin

wonderstuff · 21/12/2021 09:22

Daily Mail has the most visited new website in the world, how depressing is that? I very rarely go to DM, they do get good pictures so sometimes I crumble, but generally I’d rather not support them, so much is so negative and unkind.

Thebathneedscleaned · 21/12/2021 09:22

Oh the irony of going to the Murdoch press for impartial news.

ThePostWhatIWrote · 21/12/2021 09:22

If I want a short, clear summary of a big news story I find the Sun the best tbh.

girlmom21 · 21/12/2021 09:22

Clearly not. It's a disgrace of a 'news'paper.

ThePostWhatIWrote · 21/12/2021 09:23

As long as I'm trying to glean facts it's fine for that purpose imo.

flamedancer · 21/12/2021 09:24

I was thinking the same only yesterday. Bad news and depressing articles, and women in bikinis trying to stay relevant. That's all it is

CorrBlimeyGG · 21/12/2021 09:25

As long as I'm trying to glean facts it's fine for that purpose imo.

This has to be a joke?

boogiewithasuitcase · 21/12/2021 09:25

Today's headline is a disgrace.

Mouseonmychair · 21/12/2021 09:26

I gave up the daily mail and the guardian. Both are just campaigning newspapers that don't report the news. Now I stick with the times or telegraph.

ThePostWhatIWrote · 21/12/2021 09:27

That was a follow up to mention of The Sun / Murdoch press.

Riapia · 21/12/2021 09:28

Yet it’s the paper most linked to on MN.
Strange as nobody on MN would dare admit reading it.

Haus1234 · 21/12/2021 09:29

This is sarcasm?
ThePostWhatIWrote · 21/12/2021 09:30

I used to go to the BBC website years ago but find it fussy and badly written these days.

ThePostWhatIWrote · 21/12/2021 09:30

Whatever..

thebear1 · 21/12/2021 09:31

I used to read the side bar of shame, but stopped reading it about three years ago. Now I use the BBC website and some insta sites that try to report facts and break down the headlines.

DisforDarkChocolate · 21/12/2021 09:31

You'll never come away feeling you've heard the best about the world, no matter what the situation.

I always come away worried that there are so many people so full of hate and intolerance and focused on their own wants.

KonTikki · 21/12/2021 09:32

It's not a newspaper - it's a "rag".

AgathaMystery · 21/12/2021 09:32

I never thought I’d type this but I think DM now has better ‘investigative’ journalism than The Guardian. In the past 18-24 mth it (G) has become a giant op Ed paper written by teenagers. Now that Hadley has gone there is no point. If I want breaking news I go to the Mail. it’s always at least 45 mins ahead of BBC. I also find they are the only paper consistently supporting women-only spaces.

Who would have thought.

ThePostWhatIWrote · 21/12/2021 09:33

Yes the time lag on BBC is long and reporting often minimalist.

MrsSkylerWhite · 21/12/2021 09:35

Better late than never.
