To not wait for PCR Result?

Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 06:10

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

When I was waiting a while ago for ds results I did ring 119 and was advised that until it is over 72 hours they will not check.

I’ve never heard something so stupid in my life @Lividlavidacoco if you even did a quick Google you’d see the two main symptoms of Omicron are stuffy or runny nose and a sore throat.

Your ‘confidence’ it’s not covid is based on how I’ll informed you are. That’s why you wait for your result as you should.

How are we so far into this and people still assume the outcome that suits them best is the correct thing to do.

girlmom21 · 19/12/2021 07:42

Just wait 3 hours and phone again and you'll know either way.

Id walk the dog.

RisingStarsToday · 19/12/2021 07:42

@Lividlavidacoco

Also to add I’m double vaxxed and I had covid in Oct 2020.
Doesn’t matter if it’s Omicron. Stop trying to justify going out and about with suspected covid. You’ve the two main symptoms of the new variant.
whyohwhyohwhyohwhywhy · 19/12/2021 07:43

But you aren't legally required to isolate? I appreciate your son had the symptoms that tick the boxes, but you did say you had. It is wise of course to be cautious that you have it and amend plans accordingly (poor you) but I think you were fine to walk the dog by yourself in any event?

HumunaHey · 19/12/2021 07:44

Agree.

She has been isolating for 3 days.

She wants to walk a dog at midnight… I assume
NOT through a busy pub or her neighbours front room..

Really, you've never heard anything as stupid as someone who has been waiting for days for a result wanting to walk their dog at a time no one else is likely to be about?
rookiemere · 19/12/2021 07:47

Hopefully you're already walking the dog, as regardless the dog needs it. I'm so over this, the rules are draconian and ridiculous, you may or may not have omicron ( which mostly gives you a headache and sore throat) and it's somehow illegal to walk your dog with no one else around.

RisingStarsToday · 19/12/2021 07:54

I was referring to this @Toastmost @RedRobin100

we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold

sarah13xx · 19/12/2021 07:56

My partner barely even has a cold, just a blocked nose and all his lateral flows are positive. Just waiting on his PCR result confirming it. My lateral flows are all negative and we have a baby so we’re sleeping in the other room until we know if we all have it or not. We have dogs too, one of which I wouldn’t let anyone else walk as he’d end up getting off the lead due to how difficult he is. You have to know when to expect him to start and have a short lead etc but no one else would so they either stay in for 10 days or if I’m negative and wear a mask I will take them across to the playing fields right outside our door very early morning. It’s usually completely empty and it doesn’t involve me touching any gates or anything so there is literally no chance of anyone catching it off me if I were to turn positive.

I’d say it sounds like you maybe do have it though. You have to make a judgement when it comes to pets though, if it’s literally putting no one at risk at all

Polmuggle · 19/12/2021 07:56

@Lividlavidacoco

Yeah we’ve been isolating since we came down with stuffy noses and got PCR’s straight away, we’re very careful as a family.

So I’ve just spoken to 119. They have found my test has been registered and there’s a result but they can’t tell me the result until I’ve been waiting 72 hours... I’m on 69 hours Confused

How did you manage to speak to 119 before they open at 7am?
AperolWhore · 19/12/2021 08:00

I had the exact same thing but we were on 4 days and they couldn’t give me my result over the phone they could only chase it!

I snuck out at 5am every morning to walk the dog and to save my sanity. I wore a mask and crossed over if I saw anyone in the distance. Walk the dog tonight when it’s quiet if you haven’t got your results back xx

RockallMalinHebrides · 19/12/2021 08:01

@elenaf

I have had cold symptoms just like yours all week, and negative lateral flows every day. Triple vaccinated. PCR has come back positive, and several days in lateral flows are now positive too. The symptoms are now often identical to cold symptoms, and it can take a few days for LF to be positive. I know a lot of other people who are similar.
I am the same. My husband who started a few days before me ended up with a 3 night stay in hospital.
RememberThePenguins · 19/12/2021 08:06

I know you feel a bit attacked about the dog OP, but to be fair, if you had posted this 1 year - 18 months ago you would have had 100s responses along the lines of

"OMG no you can't walk the dog don't you know it's a pandemic and what if you have an accident and paramedics have to come to you then you will infect everyone and kill everyone's grannies."

So really, this is an improvement!

Take your dog out, hope you get the results soon and Christmas isn't a wash out for you.

Vallmo47 · 19/12/2021 08:14

Sorry the wait sucks OP but my daughter only had a runny nose and it was confirmed covid. I got it A LOT worse only a couple days later. Just think how you’d feel if you were infected a few days before Xmas because someone decided it wasn’t the real deal.

If you are truly only walking the dog in a remote area without bumping into anyone, sure.

I do completely understand, it’s just that I got covid really rough after seeing my kid with just a stuffy nose and zero other symptoms (I made her write an essay ffs before I knew, that’s how little I suspected covid). We need to lose the expectations of covid and understand it presents itself in a number of ways.

Lots of people would reasonably assume themselves to be best informed on public health issues by taking their advice from the government. Sort of makes you think it might be good if the advice on what symptoms could be Covid was readily available from gov.uk as well as, you know, the Daily Mirror.
RisingStarsToday · 19/12/2021 08:19

@MiddleParking the advise of the government is do a PCR and isolate until you get the result. Not decide you’ve not got covid and not bother to wait for your results before breaking isolation.

HelloDulling · 19/12/2021 08:24

I would walk the dog. Fingers crossed you are neg, and find out soon.

Moolia · 19/12/2021 08:25

I think MiddleParking is referring to the fact that the government are still refusing to change the three "main" symptoms even though they're not outdated, misleading and inaccurate.

pinkstripeycat · 19/12/2021 08:25

They should have told you at the test centre to contact 119 if you haven’t had results within 24 hrs. Call and see if they can trace your results.

It says it on all the paperwork so it’s not hard to miss.

I’d walk the dog at midnight personally

Moolia · 19/12/2021 08:25

*they are

pinkstripeycat · 19/12/2021 08:27
