To not wait for PCR Result?

Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 06:10

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

If you only have cold symptoms and not a cough, temperature or loss of taste/ smell then you don’t need to isolate while you wait for PCR results. Your husband who has the cough and temperature does but as you are double jabbed, have a negative LFT and aren’t displaying the official symptoms then according to the rules you can go about your business as usual. So yes, you are free to walk your dog.

WhenISnappedAndFarted · 19/12/2021 09:46

The wait sucks. I had your symptoms and a bit of a cough, was convinced it would come back negative but it came back positive.

Hope you get your results soon!

JinglingHellsBells · 19/12/2021 09:46

@Lividlavidacoco If you have lat flows at home DO ANOTHER.

It can take days for the viral load to be high enough to show up on either test.

@MolkosTeenageAngst with respect, this is nonsense and you'd do well to update yourself.

Last week, Prof Tim Spector said that almost anyone in London who thought they had a cold most probably had Omicron.

I know plenty of people double jabbed who now have Omicron.

The NHS as usual has not updated the symptoms on their website to cover Omicron BUT there is still a huge amount of info out there saying it shows as a common cold.

PLEASE stop offering false information.

SorrySadDog · 19/12/2021 09:50

I had a bad cold turned out to be covid. Not vaccinated so felt utter shit
Mum who is vaccinated had a sore throat, stuffy nose and was tired.

Lfts do work if you have symptoms, they're better than when first released

ButterflyBitch · 19/12/2021 09:51

Are people getting pcrs for cold symptoms? Or after positive lateral flows? How do you get a pcr when the website still states the three main symptoms as taste/smell, temp and cough? I’ve got a stuffy nose but am just doing a daily lateral flow. Negative so far.

Lemons1571 · 19/12/2021 09:53

Meanwhile in the real non-mumsnet world, there are plenty of people walking around among other people, while they have symptoms, who are not even testing, as they can’t afford not to work their zero hours contract job.

Walk the dog.

FluffyBooBoo · 19/12/2021 09:55

Ooh reading this, I've just realised that the food walker I came across on Friday night probably has COVID.

I was walking home from work, technically it was Saturday morning. Never usually see anyone at that time of night. He saw me, stopped, crossed the road and kind of double backed on himself to go down a different route.

I thought it slightly odd at the time, but it makes sense now.

DS does have a cough and now a rattle on his chest as of this morning. He’s little though and always seems to end up with colds on his chest. I’ve got a very slight temp (37.8) and DS’s temp is now normal after going up to 37.7.

My husband has no symptoms at all, he’s also lat flow tested and it’s negative.

Just to add, I had done a lateral flow before i booked a PCR and it was positive, I had cold symptoms.

AuditAngel · 19/12/2021 09:57

@BirdyBirdyTweetTweet

From experience, you have to wait 72 hours before they'll do anything. I rang at 72 (119) and they contacted the test centre who said they'd got the test but not the results. I was then told to wait another 72 while they opened an investigation.

I was fed up by the end of the first 72 that I booked another PCR and the results came back the same day.

I had exactly the same with DD2 last summer. They told me to wait up to another 72 hours.

As it was, DD2 had never had any symptoms. She was only tested as school asked us to test all the kids due to 3 cases in her year, she had completed more than 10 isolation so I didn’t follow up after the second 72 hours

Because DS had a cough and we both had a bit of a temp at one stage.

You just tick no symptoms and carry on.
Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 10:00

I’m on hold with 119. They’ve said the test is registered and I’m now on hold to speak to another team? She said there’s over 100 people in the queue and it will be 25 minutes+.

In the meantime I’ve got another lat flow on the go. Just waiting for the results on that.

Yes that makes sense livid as you had symptoms but there’s lots of replies saying they have covid with just stuffy noses. Bit confused why they got pcrs unless lateral flows were positive.

TwoMuchTwoYoung · 19/12/2021 10:03

My post was tongue in cheek but I can see how it could have come across.
Anyway I would definitely be walking the dog, hope it’s negative.

Basically I think you have to lie when it asks if you have one of those three symptoms. Which could be easily avoided by the govt updating the symptoms list, but people want to be responsible and get tested with other symptoms.

In that case as a cough and a temperature of 37.8+ counts as a covid symptom you and your DS do need to isolate until you get PCR results. If your temperature is a new symptom today and you didn’t previously have any of the official symptoms (cough, cold, loss of taste/ smell) then my understanding is you need to get a PCR test today and can’t rely on the test you did earlier in the week before you developed official symptoms.

As long as your DH there is no longer a rule that anybody with at least two vaccines need to isolate just because members of their household have symptoms or test positive so as long as his daily LFTs are negative he can go about his normal business and that includes walking the dog.

justasking111 · 19/12/2021 10:05

Fingers crossed for you

itsgoodtobehome · 19/12/2021 10:05

I went for a PCR test on Friday and then just went about my normal business while I waited for the result (it was negative). I didn't even know you were supposed to stay in while you waited. I'd carry on until you know one way or another.

Houseplantmad · 19/12/2021 10:08

No wonder we're in the bloody mess we're in. FGS there's no excuse for ignorance at this stage of things. Get informed. You have a responsibility to. This makes me so cross.

Swisscheeseleaves · 19/12/2021 10:09

Your dh could walk the dog if he's got no symptoms and his lft is negative.

5keletor · 19/12/2021 10:10

As others have said, nothing wrong with walking the dog so late around no other people imo, but definitely don't carry on with other plans while waiting for PCR results. It does sound like you're having a nightmare getting results, but your symptoms are among the most common symptoms for the Omicron variant, although we had covid last year and I had the same symptoms as you - also annoyed about having to isolate while waiting for my results, then had to cancel long-standing plans when me, then baby and asymptomatic partner, tested positive. 😔

Xenia · 19/12/2021 10:10

Interesting that to get a PCR test you have to defraud the state and tax payers of the cost of the PCR test and be a rule breaker (i.e. wicked person) if you have cold symptoms not the only official 23for which you are allowed by law to get the PCR.

What an interesting world full of such moral dilemmas.
