To not wait for PCR Result?

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

@JinglingHellsBells,
The NHS as usual has not updated the symptoms on their website to cover Omicron BUT there is still a huge amount of info out there saying it shows as a common cold.

You are wrong to accuse Molko of misinformation. She is just repeating what the official guidance STILL is on when to test, even though we all are reading the latest research and know personally of people, including ourselves, who have COVID who didn’t have any of those 3 symptoms.

If you want to accuse anyone of spreading misinformation it’s the government who refuse to change the only 3 symptoms you are still faced with when you go to the “Book a PCR test” page. We all know they’ve not updated deliberately, because there are so many cold-type viruses out there the PCR testing system wouldnt cope if everyone tested for standard cold symptoms. And too many people would be off work if they had to isolate based on just cold symptoms. And of course the cynic in me says that the government is quite happy to let herd immunity happen this way.

Plenty are people suspicious they have COVID but they only have cold symptoms are lying about the type of symptoms they are asked about on the government website. Just so they can get a PCR test. Which often, lo and behold, comes back positive. And STILL they didn’t fit the outdated 3 symptoms criteria.

DS does have a cough and now a rattle on his chest as of this morning. He’s little though and always seems to end up with colds on his chest. I’ve got a very slight temp (37.8) and DS’s temp is now normal after going up to 37.7

I would cancel your activity this afternoon just based on the fact that your DS is under the weather. Hope he feels better soon x

SayAaa · 19/12/2021 10:19

Most people have cold symptoms at the moment. So people with covid are likely to have cold symptoms, but so is everyone else. Therefore, normal cold symptoms are a poor way to distinguish covid from non covid. It's not clear from the Zoe stuff if they've compared symptoms between people with and without covid or if they're just reporting numbers from the covid group.

Bloballbovish · 19/12/2021 10:19

@Xenia

Interesting that to get a PCR test you have to defraud the state and tax payers of the cost of the PCR test and be a rule breaker (i.e. wicked person) if you have cold symptoms not the only official 23for which you are allowed by law to get the PCR.

What an interesting world full of such moral dilemmas.

Ridiculous isn't it, you can't get a PCR with typical omicron symptoms unless you lie.

Also, my daughter (and her whole class) was advised to get a PCR by her school even though she had no symptoms, because of the high number of cases in her class. There was no option for 'the head told us to' so I had to lie for that too.

Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 10:20

@Swisscheeseleaves

Your dh could walk the dog if he's got no symptoms and his lft is negative.
He could if he could walk Grin

Annoyingly, he’s bright as a button and his normal happy self, just a bit noisy breathing! He’s not struggling in any way with his chest, he just sounds like a motorbike. He’s be fine to go out if we were all clear.

You can get a test as a contact in those circumstances.

JinglingHellsBells · 19/12/2021 10:27

@CurlyhairedAssassin Sorry but I have to disagree with you.

The NHS website is behind the times with most medical information. (I write on health and would never look at their site for info.)

Not just Covid. They won't update it for many reasons (mainly red tape and lack of IT proficiency) but not because of any herd immunity theory that you believe in.

I still feel I was right to correct a poster for leaving mis-information simply because there is a HUGE amount out there online about how Omicron shows as a cold and the 'classic' symptoms do not apply.

JinglingHellsBells · 19/12/2021 10:30

@CurlyhairedAssassin.

You can do lat flow tests. Even though they are meant for people without symptoms, many people are doing them as a precursor to a PCR if they think they have Omicron.

ServeBacon · 19/12/2021 10:33

Hi OP, hopefully you've got your results thru by now.

Grimbelina · 19/12/2021 10:33

This is nuts. You may well have it but you need to walk the dog. You do it when you won't bump into people.

Please don't assume it's just a cold though. This is exactly why I am now in bed with Covid, probably Omicron as no lung involvement. Someone made a very selfish choice to come to my house without telling me they had the symptoms of a very bad cold. They are triple jabbed, I am not and am CV and have been effectively isolating. They had also been in contact with someone 5 days earlier who had a positive test. I didn't see anyone else, hadn't been out so it was pretty much definitely them.

They also refused to get a PCR as they 'don't have the symptoms' as per the gov advice.

crumblebug · 19/12/2021 10:35

Really don't understand why you would still want to go and infect other people this afternoon with whatever you've got if you both have a fever and your DS has a rattly chest

If you give others those symptoms, they will also need to isolate until they get negative PCRs. They could be essential workers who are needed in their jobs

Probably not the best idea to do something so selfish just because you want to feel 'Christmassy'

Ah sorry op, just as i posted it i thought "what if he's disabled". I just meant in accordance with the rules he doesn't have to self isolate Smile

MrsLargeEmbodied · 19/12/2021 10:46

you have to wait now
imagine how you would feel if the result turned out to be positive

i think a dog walk is reasonable howver

Don’t worry! He’s temporarily disabled due to a completely self inflicted injury, caused by a recent incident involving a garden wall and aspirations to be an Olympic hurdler Hmm... he ended up with a broken ankle, crutches and a very unsympathetic wife! Blush

4 in our house have tested positive right now and none of us have had a cough or high temp. Only 1 a change in taste. 3 of us have stuffy noses, slight sore throats (more like scratchy) and just feel a bit off. I’ve had slightly achy hips too. Our youngest (11yo) was sick a couple of times on the day we got her positive result but has been fine since then. It’s been v mild for us and none of us are suffering with it.

Only 1 of us tested positive on a lat flow before a pcr. The rest of us have been for pcrs since because of that close contact and that was before we had symptoms. Our lat flows were only positive after the pcrs had confirmed it.

Just saying it does seem like most people are getting common cold symptoms now… walking the dog is fine if there is no one around though. I would go late at night if I had to but one of us is still negative in this house so he will walk the dog for now.

That’s interesting. DS was sick last night but I assumed it was from coughing..

I hope you don't have covid op but I'm following to find out

SantasOnHisWay · 19/12/2021 10:59

If they wouldn't give you the result having chased it and you were an hour short of them being able to tell you (even though the result was there?) I'd be inclined to say fuck it and just go about my day. We always get a cold this week without fail every single year, we are both so busy with work and run down, then we have the pressure of running about getting organised for Christmas, nights out etc once we stop a cold hits. Right on cue we both got our cold a couple of days ago, we have terrible runny nose, slight cough and sneezing. We are both off work now with the kids and have lots of things booked. There is no way we are getting a test and waiting days on end for the result, we've done lateral flows (which we know are shit) and are negative so we'll be carrying on as normal this week. I've stuck to the guidelines religiously so far, got jabbed and have the booster in a few days but I'm not staying in waiting for a pcr throwing away money on expensive pre booked events. So well done for actually bothering following the guidelines, you are better than me!

YetAnotherSpartacus · 19/12/2021 10:59

Fingers crossed OP!

And I think a lonely dog walk at midnight in the middle of winter is fine even if you do have Covid!

Elodeastar · 19/12/2021 11:02

Walk the dog, somewhere as remote as you can, please don't go anywhere else though! Hope it's negative and you get the result soon, but for the time being exercise caution, please!

santaclothes · 19/12/2021 11:02

Imagine refusing to tell you at 69 hours Confused

mnp321 · 19/12/2021 11:03

There's a difference between the likelihood of you having covid (sounds quite possible/probable) and you risking others by taking the dog for a walk outside in a remote area. Personally I don't know anyone who would judge you for doing that.

BinkyRidesForth · 19/12/2021 11:07

I currently have covid. I have a runny/ stuffy nose and a sore throat, no other symptoms. My first lateral flow was negative so I too thought it might just be a cold, however on the second day of symptoms LFT was positive and had a positive pct same day. I suspect I have caught this from colleagues who have ‘just had a cold’ for the last week or so and who based this on one negative lateral flow early on with no repeat tests. I now have to self isolate for the whole of Christmas. Oh, and I’m also 36 weeks pregnant so now baby and I are at higher risk. This is all despite being triple jabbed (although I’m sure throw is why my symptoms aren’t too bad). I actually think you could walk the dog round the block IF you wear masks and it is a time of day you won’t run into anyone but please don’t do anything else.
