To not wait for PCR Result?

Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 06:10

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

Walk the dog. The risk of passing it on in a remote area outside is vanishingly small. If it makes you feel better, people are far more likely to catch it on the tube where people don't wear masks and probably don't test regularly. Common sense needs to prevail on occasions.

AshLane · 19/12/2021 08:28

@pinkstripeycat - didn't help me - did you read my post further up.

Joystir59 · 19/12/2021 08:30

Walk the dog. If I get COVID I will have to walk my dog as he's a difficult rescue who I trust with very few people and I wouldn't want to expose them to risk of infection anyway handing the dog over. The safest option for everyone will be for me to walk him very early and very late.

AD80 · 19/12/2021 08:35

I have covid and my covid is exactly like a cold so you could have covid. My nose was very blocked, sore throat etc. Fever is unusual for adults with a cold so I would wait for results.

But yes walking the dog when quiet would be fine. Just done assume negative and do anything else other than walking dog.
CeeceeBloomingdale · 19/12/2021 08:37

DD has covid and the exact same symptoms OP

ShepherdMoons · 19/12/2021 08:42

Walk the dog and call 119. Really your results should be in by now. Don't go anywhere else though, you could have covid.

Blondeshavemorefun · 19/12/2021 08:44

@Lividlavidacoco

Yeah we’ve been isolating since we came down with stuffy noses and got PCR’s straight away, we’re very careful as a family.

So I’ve just spoken to 119. They have found my test has been registered and there’s a result but they can’t tell me the result until I’ve been waiting 72 hours... I’m on 69 hours Confused

That’s silly making you wait another 3hrs

Tho ring back at 10

Karma1981 · 19/12/2021 08:44

We have been waiting nearly 72 hours for my dd, going to have to re test her as husband binned the paperwork with bar code on and she needs a chest x Ray doing other wise I would just keep her in for the 10 days.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 19/12/2021 08:44

I have tested positive on pcr result came in this morning. I have zero official symptoms. I had a headache Tuesday I to Wednesday and a bit of a sniffle.

Having researched peoples experiences omicron presents as just a cold.

I would still walk the dog late when there is no one around (in fact have done)

JinglingHellsBells · 19/12/2021 08:50

For clarity @Lividlavidacoco these are classic signs of Omicron!

Read the info online. Have you not seen it?

JinglingHellsBells · 19/12/2021 08:52

@Lividlavidacoco

Read this.

It's written by prof Tim Spector- Covid scientist doing all the research

joinzoe.com/learn/omicron-symptoms

Runny nose

Headache

Fatigue (mild or severe)

Sneezing

Sore throat

oftenbaffled · 19/12/2021 08:55

utterly bizarre that you do not mention doing any LFTs

Blinky21 · 19/12/2021 08:56

I'd suggest getting re tested if you can, a friend did that when her result didn't come after 5 days. She got the new result within 24hrs, so assume her first test was lost.
I'd walk the dog, put on a mask and avoid other people.

Covidclaire · 19/12/2021 08:59

OP if you (not DC) don’t have a temperature, loss of taste/smell or a cough you don’t need to isolate until you get the results.

ServeBacon · 19/12/2021 08:59

Walk the dog

MiddleParking · 19/12/2021 09:02
@MiddleParking the advise of the government is do a PCR and isolate until you get the result. Not decide you’ve not got covid and not bother to wait for your results before breaking isolation.
Not with a stuffy nose and sore throat it isn’t. Bless you for trying to understand my point, better luck next time.

RichardMarxisinnocent · 19/12/2021 09:04

Why is that bizarre? Advice is not to do an LFT if you have symptoms.
Fundays12 · 19/12/2021 09:06

I would walk the dog but only very late at night away from others but do nothing else till PCR results come through

oftenbaffled · 19/12/2021 09:07

Because i didn't realise she was in Scotland
so you can go out if in england and a family member is positive

dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 09:08

@oftenbaffled

I think its bizarre that you think this is bizarre
oftenbaffled · 19/12/2021 09:08

wait sorry wrong thread

yes I do find it baffling she has not mentioned lft

she DOES have symptons

MrsMurdstone · 19/12/2021 09:10

Can't you do a lateral flow test?
I know it says on the NHS website not to do that one if you have symptoms, but the packaging on the actal tests says different.

twelly · 19/12/2021 09:11

I would just carry on as normal as that was the guidelines and I would assume as they hadn't been in touch it was negative

dementedpixie · 19/12/2021 09:12

They have a high false negative rate so a negative test on an LFT doesn't mean you are actually negative. That's why they aren't supposed to be used to rule out covid (although they are actually more accurate if you have symptoms)
