To not wait for PCR Result?

Lividlavidacoco · 19/12/2021 06:10

DS and I both had colds this week and because he was coughing and had a slight temp (37.9) we both needed PCR’s. For clarity though, we are very confident the tests will be negative, we’ve both had stuffy noses and sore throats so it’s just a cold.

We went to a drive through test centre at 9am on Thursday, it’s now Sunday and we still don’t have our results. It’s been a nightmare because we had lovely Christmassy plans this weekend we’ve had to miss and we’re all gutted.

Firstly, is there somewhere we can contact to check the status of our tests?

Secondly, the dog desperately needs a walk. WIBU to take the dog out tonight at midnight when no one else will be up in the field?

You are allowed to leave the house to walk your dog! As you are allowed to leave the house to get food/pay bills!!

ChrisConary · 20/12/2021 18:54

Good grief, y'all take lock down seriously! Walk the dog, just stay six feet away from other walkers, or cross the street. Don't sneeze on people. We never had any kind of lock down here in Las Vegas, though some businesses were closed for a while at the beginning of 2020. We had our vaccines, and wear our masks. Husband and I have colds this week, but we won't be getting tested, partly because is probably just a cold, and partly because the soonest we could schedule a test would be more than a week from now, and we will have recovered by then.

Mysa74 · 20/12/2021 19:09

I'm glad the test turned up negative op, you can take you dog for a lovely walk with out having to hide every time you see someone now . Might be a good idea to make it a long walk incase the second test comes back positive though... Grin

Our Christmas plans have been ruined because someone as lovely as you sent their child into school and infected my child.
For what it’s worth my child’s symptoms were typical cold symptoms and sneezing.

Staryflight445 · 20/12/2021 19:12

You can’t just not walk your dog because of covid. But you really shouldn’t moan about other stuff whilst waiting for a PCR.
You’re lucky they’re negative.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 20/12/2021 19:22

My son has done three negative lateral flow tests and then a positive PCR. I think the lateral flow tests aren't much cop.

LookslovelyinSpringtime · 20/12/2021 19:22

Daughter did six negative lateral flow tests and positive PCR.

Staryflight445 · 20/12/2021 19:24

They only turn positive when viral load is large enough to spread it @LookslovelyinSpringtime I think they’re pointless as well.

Instead of 7 day LFT for close contacts it should be PCR day 7.

RachaelN · 20/12/2021 20:13

Same symptoms we have all had. All four in our house positive. Please wait.

Wtf is wrong with you? Confused

I didn’t send my child anywhere, I isolated the minute I had symptoms, got a PCR, cancelled all our plans and stayed indoors until we got a negative result. Which part of that do you think ruined anyone’s plans but ours??

We followed the rules and you’re kicking off.. did you not read the thread?

It might well just be me, but your symptoms of Covid sound like a cold. Why are we all getting het up for a cold that has a different name? in the beginning it was different and no-one knew what was happening and lockdown was a good idea, but the old and the vulnerable have now been vaccinated and certainly for healthy young people it’s just like a cold (my two daughters 16 and 12 have had it). Are we making too much of it? Should those who want to stay at home stay at home, and those who still want to live their lives just get on with it?

Lividlavidacoco · 20/12/2021 21:31

Second PCR came back - also negative so it looks like we’re clear.

This thread is wild. I’m being criticised for being over cautious AND not cautious enough for following the rules Hmm

Ddog is well walked, no one needs to call the RSPCA. He’s out tomorrow for a pack walk with the dog Walker and along with his daily dog Walker walk he has 1-2 with us. In total, he missed one day (Saturday) and spent the day in and out of the garden doing scent training and playing with his moose. I don’t think he even noticed.

We didn’t go out, we cancelled our plans and yes, I’m allowed to be a little bit disappointed at missing out on our Christmassy things and not just ‘glad it’s not positive’ - I am glad, I’m also disappointed - who wouldn’t be? Confused those 2 things can coexist. Weird comment that one.

Anyway, DS is much much better today, his chest is almost completely clear so we’re cautiously optimistic we should be on for Christmas. We just have to hope everyone’s lateral flows are negative now Grin

Because covid has a far, far higher mortality rate than a cold. Have you had covid? I have and it’s awful. My husband had long covid and he’s still not right now over a year on.

Covid is NOT ‘just like a cold’ in far more cases than just the old and vulnerable. Most people will have mild symptoms but many will be very ill or ill for a long time. In my husbands case it’s impacted his kidneys and his brain. It’s no joke.

I'm pleased for you OP and I'm sorry you've had to take such a pasting from people with limited comprehension skills. I'm willing to bet some of these people are also the ones going 'I'm not following another lockdown, waaah...'. But yeah, maybe make it an extra-long walk just in case - fingers crossed!

OP, so pleased that you seem to be in the clear. God, some people are nasty here. I know it's a nerve-wracking and fecking frustrating time right now, and people are anxious about Christmas plans being cancelled, but OP was fully following the guidelines and preparing herself to isolate. And yes, I think it's totally reasonable to walk the dog at midnight whilst waiting for PCR results. Any reasonable person would think so.

Have you drove to Durham to test your eyesight yet

You could very well have covid with those symptoms. I just had a chill, terrible head ache & my body ached. But I genuinely didnt think covid, only my stupid ocd made me test. I did go on about day 5 to have the runs, dizziness, exhaustion, ear ache, lots of congestion, blocked everything, eye infection, I think ear infection. My legs ached so much my doctor checked for dvt. But I had none of the cough & breathing issues as you’d expect, I did feel suffocated but it was I think congestion like a cold, the feeling like I’d snorted talc.
My partner caught it just after & he had a head ache for 3 days, which wasn’t terrible just not nice. He had no other symptom, he wasn’t going to test as genuinely didn’t think he had it. I lost my taste, smell (which I still don’t have 3+weeks) My partner was better after the 3 days & became bored where as I’m still absolutely exhausted, stiff neck random head aches. Still have sinus issues. Sometime a random little cough but nothing like I thought covid was meant to be. I feel covid was slow & went through my entire system literally attacking all my senses & parts. 100% that thing is man made to hurt us in the weirdest ways. Don’t take risks, wait for your tests.
Call 119 they found be able to provide results. Hope it’s negative xx

HelenEas63 · 20/12/2021 23:50

And to add, I walked my dog at 3am because I couldn’t sleep at day 7/8 I literally don’t have a garden, I wasn’t near a human & I needed air. I actually sat on a curb & cried a little because I was free. Lots of it was delusional & irrational panic because I felt trapped & panicky. I knew just walking the dog wasn’t going to hurt anyone & I didn’t go near a human if I’d have seen one I’d have ran away (if I had enough energy) I had a mask with me & wore latex gloves (trying to protect my son in the event he touched the lead)
Yes it’s wrong to leave the house but i took precautions to keep others safe.

Suewoo · 21/12/2021 00:45

The suspense is killing me - what were your results??

Suewoo · 21/12/2021 00:46

Ah sorry! Saw you had posted them earlier! Pleased they are negative - have a great Christmas!

beentoldcomputersaysno · 21/12/2021 02:47

Glad they're negative. Haven't rtft but have read all of OPs posts. Def not being unreasonable. Everything you said made perfect sense.

FajitaBonita · 21/12/2021 05:45

@Lividlavidacoco

Yeah we’ve been isolating since we came down with stuffy noses and got PCR’s straight away, we’re very careful as a family.

So I’ve just spoken to 119. They have found my test has been registered and there’s a result but they can’t tell me the result until I’ve been waiting 72 hours... I’m on 69 hours Confused

That is utter bollocks.

First 119 opens at 7am so how you “just” spoke to them at 6:49 am is hmmm.

Secondly, if they had the result they would tell you. They will not escalate and chase with the results look up team until the 72 hours has passed,
