To not comply...?

Largethighsbadeyes · 18/12/2021 22:42

...if the government imposes restrictions over Christmas, given what we now know happened last Christmas with parties at downing street.

The possibility of this is rumour at the moment and hadn't been confirmed but I'm interested to see how others are feeling.

By restrictions I mean rule of 6 indoors for Christmas day or even no mixing of households for Christmas eve, Christmas day, boxing day.

I will not comply. I cannot do that to my child who is an only child and whose grandad is dying. He wants to be with extended (but very close) family at Christmas, as do I.

If we all test negative the day before we will be carrying on as normal regardless of the rules (all adults triple vaccinated)

YABU - I will follow the restrictions if brought in over Christmas

YANBU - i will not follow restrictions if brought in over Christmas

I will do what the scientists advise and I’ll bear in mind my colleagues working on the frontline. I’m not going to join the lowest common denominator just because they are in government. Just like I won’t have a bunch of children I then don’t parent. Just like I won’t misuse tax payers money for my own and my friends enrichment. Just like I won’t lie. I won’t steal. I won’t take unnecessary risks with the health and safety of those I’m responsible for. Because, unlike members of the current government I have an ounce of integrity and care about more than my own financial status and ego.

@Sparklingbrook

They don't have a vote function. Hth

Well it doesn't help really. This topic doesn't have a vote function as such-other than to vote whether you are being unreasonable or not. I voted YABU for not posting in the Coronavirus topic. Wink

And yet you voted and replied here, twice.

OP, I will comply but won't judge those who don't.

Smallkeys · 18/12/2021 23:06

I will make my own safety decisions that I will wont be basing on the fact that Downing Street had parties that’s just daft. If he jumped off a cliff I wouldn’t follow. If you make a risk assessment that you are happy with then that’s fine I don’t think it’s as black and white as comply or don’t comply.

bigbabs · 18/12/2021 23:07

I'm not influenced by the behaviour of the tories last Christmas. I've always known they are a party of self serving, double standard tossers so I'm not remotely surprised by what's come out about the parties.

My opinion is that you risk assess your own situation and use your own judgement. We will LFT Christmas morning and see family as planned if negative. In your situation I would do the same. You will never get this Christmas back with your family member and we've already lost so much.

I am pro vaccine and have complied throughout but I think it's getting to the point where we have to make our own sensible choices now.

Rosebel · 18/12/2021 23:08

Boris can fuck off. We are adults we know the risks and I refuse to be separated from my friends and family again. So whatever rules he applies about Christmas I will ignore.
I wear a mask, socially distance and that's as much as I'm prepared to do. I also don't and never have voted Tory (although tbf I think any government would have fucked us over during the pandemic).

Sparklingbrook · 18/12/2021 23:09

I did! Grin i think that's allowed though.

TBF I don't know why MN doesn't have a proper topic with a poll with graphs and everything-I think they could do with one.

Berlinkreuzberg · 18/12/2021 23:09

So a f**k you to the NHS who have kept the service going ? Clever. But first to come whingeing when no staff to care for loved ones, clinics are cancelled etc because staff are redeployed or off sick.

Holidaytan · 18/12/2021 23:09

We ignored it last year and had parents over for Xmas. Visited them and other family all through the lock downs. Went wild camping when all hotels etc were closed…..Just do what you want to do.

GenderCriticalTrumpets · 18/12/2021 23:10

We will follow the rules because they are there to protect people. If Boris and his party of selfish cunts don't follow the rules that's their business. We will follow them to keep us and everyone around us safe.

AmIAGrinchx · 18/12/2021 23:10

Fuck off with this covid crap. Keep it to the covid thread. Had enough of seeing this depressing crap on AIBU.

FTEngineerM · 18/12/2021 23:10

When your loved ones die of covid

We’ve all had it, and we were fine. It’s almost certain that we will be fine again.

Exactly. Sadly every clown on here now thinks they’re cleverer than some of the world’s best scientists.
Berlinkreuzberg · 18/12/2021 23:11

@Holidaytan edgy lol

SituationCritical · 18/12/2021 23:13

I won't comply. I did last year. I've been suicidal and had a terrible year mental health wise and the thought of missing Christmas with my parents and sister and kids is just too much, it's what I've been holding on to.

I agree. The only people well be hurting is ourselves and our loved ones and those nhs staff who've worked so hard over the last 2 years
RainbowBabyForChristmasPlease · 18/12/2021 23:15

YABU

KilmordenCastle · 18/12/2021 23:15

I'll be seeing friends and family no matter what restrictions are in place. I think there are about two people I know who I reckon would comply with another lockdown. I don't actually know that they would, it's just a guess. Everyone I've actually spoken to about it has said something along the lines of "not a fucking chance".

I don't have even the tiniest of fucks left to give about what the scientists say. I won't isolate my dc's like that again. It's bloody cruel and they are my priority, always!

drainitallout · 18/12/2021 23:16

@Largethighsbadeyes YABU to not comply because of the government parties a year ago. It's a ridiculous reason not to. Do you think the virus cares about that?

There won't be restrictions bright in over Xmas. Boris wouldn't dare. Possibly afterwards though. So don't worry. You can do what you like and don't have to stick two fingers up to the government whilst doing it. They really don't give one iota of a crap what you do.

3cats4poniesandababy · 18/12/2021 23:20

I won't be doing another lockdown why?

  1. looking after my health, my mental health.
  2. I have had medical negligence on several occasions in the past year. My problem was never getting in front of medical staff it was always them being arrogant and not listening to patients because they had read some textbooks and seen statistics. This leads me to know lockdowns didn't protect the NHS
  3. at somepoint we need to start living if not now when? Yes sadly somepeople will die, somepeople will have post-viral syndrome but I would rather have a short life but see family and friends than spend my life inside four walls.

If friends ir family would rather isolated themselves then they can crack on that is their choice but I won't be joining them as I don't believe in it any longer. I regularly test and will continue to do so.

If I do change my plans it will be on the advice of Christ Whitty et al and not because Boris the Liar did or didn't do anything. Or I would stop them because I felt like the risk out weights the gain for my parents. In your circumstances, if your dad is happy to take the risk, then I would completely ignore the rules.

Dippydinosaurus · 18/12/2021 23:24

No I won't. Apart from being triple vaccinated, the NHS is chronically underfunded. My friend does a lot of overtime with bank work as they're so short staffed. This is ALL YEAR ROUND not just now during covid. Obviously paying furlough is cheaper than investing in the NHS long term. The public rolling over again as a cheap fix is what they want.

They're also not putting focus on the unvaccinated. I read somewhere (BBC?) that 80% of hospital admissions are unvaccinated. The other 20% are elderly who have been vaccinated/people unable to have the vaccination due to medical reasons - fair enough.

I will get very fucked off at the unvaccinated if they close schools as a result of their selfishness/stupidity. I was ok with hesitancy at first but now they need to get a fucking grip.

pinkstripeycat · 18/12/2021 23:27

If we lockdown again I’ll lose my house after no money for 7 months last year.
Hope to god no more lockdowns
